This team and this Playoff series should be talked about more in the media. Lakers completely dominated the Western Conference in 2001. Kobe specifically was a huge problem for the Spurs. This doesn’t get talked about in the media when it comes to iconic moments as far as Kobe’s resume goes. He averaged 33, 7 and 7 and probably could’ve been slightly more if the Lakers hadn’t demoralized the Spurs in the games at Staples. Beat em by 39 & 29 in the last two games 👀. Kobe played damn near every minute of the first two games. He only played 33 minutes in this game. That’s how bad they beat down the Number 1 team that year. You’ll likely never see two players dominate a whole Playoff run like this ever again.

as much as i hate kobetards people do underrate his 2000-2004 seasons...he was better then people remember by age 22.5...like scary good...the lakers were not that stacked and they had injuries...they had trash bench players outside of horry..washed up ron harper and old brian shaw and a young ty lue is not much man..besides fox kobe had no support really at the sf position and he managed to make it work somehow...i mean for a minute in a tight playoff game vs a good team maybe they could send young devean george out there and hope he did not suck but that was about it..it was basically fox and then kobe at sf and kobe at sg and 4 pgs and somehow they swept the spurs lol with grant and horry at pf and no backup center...

In my opinion Westbrook is just as good of a scorer !!! I would just like to see Durant and Westbrook stay fully healthy all year long ever since they made it.to the finals in 2012 someone has gotten hurt the past 2 or 3 seasonss!! If James harden had stayed and they all 3 stayed healthy nobody would beat that team !! Only reason Miami Heat did in 2012 is because harden was absolutely horrible every game !! 10:22-10:30 Man that Lakers-Spurs rivalry was real, they whooped them by 39, then by 29 just so their sweep could eclipse that 99' sweep by the Spurs.

Kobe avg. 33 per game, Shaq 27 per game against a very tough Spurs team. Yet they say Shaq carried kobe through out their championship run.

Are you using ppg in one series of this championship run as justification to say that Kobe was as important or more important than Shaq during this championship run? Or am I missing the point.

nomooon exactly people forget Kobe was basically the same player in 99 that he was in 2000 the biggest difference was the lakers finally had a competent coach instead of Del Harris and Kurt Rambis Secondly Shaq performed just fine without Kobe as a matter of fact as long as Shaq was playing the lakers had a better record when Kobe didn't play (1999-00) Lakers record (67-15) Lakers record with Shaq but without Kobe (13-2) Lakers record with Kobe but no Shaq (1-1) Lakers record without Shaq and Kobe (0-1) (2000-01) Lakers record (57-25) Lakers record with Shaq but without Kobe (11-3) Lakers record with Kobe but without Shaq (5-3) (2001-02) Lakers record (58-24) Lakers record with Shaq but without Kobe (2-0) Lakers record with Kobe but without Shaq (7-8) 2000-02 Lakers record 181-65 .735 win percentage (13-12 lakers record with Kobe but without Shaq win percentage .52%) Lakers with Shaq but without Kobe (26-5 win percentage .84%) Lakers record without Shaq or Kobe (0-1) (.000 win percentage) 2002-03 (287-123) lakers record with Shaq and Kobe 45-22 (winning percentage .67%) *(Kobe didn't miss any games) Record with Kobe but no Shaq 5-10 (Winning percentage .33%) 2003-04 Lakers record with Shaq 49-18 (67 games) Without Shaq (7-8) Lakers record with Kobe 48-17 (65 games) Without Kobe (8-9) Lakers record with Shaq but no Kobe (6-5) (*1 game Shaq was ejected early with the lead, which they wound up losing) Lakers record with Kobe but no Shaq (5-4) Lakers record without either (2-4) Lakers record in total from 2000-04 (287-123 .700 win perceentage) Lakers record with Shaq and Kobe both playing (2000-04 230-82) (.731 win percentage) Lakers record from 2000-04 with Kobe but no Shaq With Kobe but no Shaq (23-26) .47% win Lakers with Shaq but no Kobe (32-10) (.76% win percentage) Lakers record without Shaq or Kobe (2-5) (.285 win percentage)

fdajj yea that’s kind of important in a series. Also he’s the one running point on the team and the closer. So it’s safe to say he was more important in some of these playoff series

The good old days when my Lakers were the most dominant team in NBA. Kobe and Shaq were both unguardable at that time. They tried triple teaming Shaq and double teaming Kobe and they could both score almost at will, and then you had Fish, Horry and Fox sitting open all day sinking 3’s. Best 1-2 punch in the NBA in my lifetime. I don’t think we’ll ever see a team as dominant as that again.

Did you hear what Marv said? Kobe avg 33 ppg vs. the Spurs Shaq avg 27. But haters say Kobe got carried to 3 rings. LOL
@waipareil9 жыл бұрын
The thing is Shaq was so dominant at this time that it was very easy to forgot not only Kobe, but Fox/Horry/Fisher's shoots, Horace Grant in the paint (you could see the difference without him guarding PF's in 2002 playoffs). And, as a SG Kobe had to face Iverson (who was the best player in the world with Shaq at this era) and Carter and his spectacular plays during those years. So Kobe was easy to forgot in some way, but he surely wasn't carried by Shaq, he was just the second option in offense

Kobe was the MVP thru the west playoffs then in the finals the east was always so small inside Phil Jackson would feed the diesel all game which was smart ... Shaq could've averaged 40 and 20 if he had kobes drive and work ethic
