To get this over with: Both teams had the right to be complaining, the Kings just do so to this day because they lost, and because Game 6 was much more blatant than any other game in the series, therefore easier to stick to people's minds. If you just isolate plays you can make the case that it was rigged for both teams. That's just how easy it is for the truth to be distorted. Shaq was getting calls in Staples, and in Arco Arena he was getting called for bullshit fouls and he was getting the shit beat out of him but the refs called nothing. Divac's flops worked in Sacramento but not in LA. And let's face it, you can't give HIM the benefit of the doubt. I'm not gonna get into this whole Game 2 thing when Kobe got food poisoning because we can never know for sure what happened. In Game 4, which by the way the Kings blew despite leading by 24, Divac could just grab the rebound and seal the game at the free throw line, but he foolishly slapped the ball and it ended up to Horry who (God knows why) was waiting at the three point line, and we all know what happened next. In Game 5, the ball was out of bounds off Webber but they gave it to the Kings and Bibby hit the game winner after CWebb freed him up with an illegal screen, then Kobe was fouled on his game winning attempt. In Game 6, Lakers were indeed getting all the calls in the 4th, it was a complete joke. But in Game 7, the Kings choked plain and simple. I recall Christie and Peja airballing open shots, and the Kings as a team missing like half their free throws. Only Bibby showed up for that game. Even if Game 6 was set up, it does not mean they wanted the Lakers to win the series, they just wanted it to go to seven games. If Lakers had won Game 5 maybe it would be the other way around in Game 6 (though I seriously doubt that). In the end, Kings had the Lakers where they wanted them but they just choked. The way things turned out the Kings have no one to blame but themselves. Pretty sure 99% of the people who say the series was rigged for the Lakers to win have never watched the whole series and they're just repeating what they heard.

You absolutely can't watch yesteryear's NBA game with today's context. Volume 3pt shooting was irrelevant back then in the illegal defense days. The NBA mostly shot 12ft-18ft jumpers. Nothing "rigged" about this. Shaq and Kobe were unstoppable. Got a few favorable calls at home- calls in the series prior to this game had favored Sacramento- but nothing beyond that. The Lakers were more aggressive. Shaq got fouled every time he caught the ball. Look at Pollard and Divac chop at him. Only difference is that in this game he made his foul shots. This is what happens when you have an elite perimeter player relentlessly attacking the rim and an elite post player with 100+ pounds on the guys guarding him getting DEEP position. You get fouled. Don't blame the refs. The Kings got beat.

LOL this is the most rigged NBA game of all-time. They were calling every little ticky tack foul and phantom call on the Lakers while Shaq and Kobe were allowed to beat the living shit out the Kings players, especially Mike Bibby. Every time the Kings built a lead , the ref whistles started blowing. Look how many free throws the Lakers got in the 4th quarter alone? The Kings were robbed this game, period. That being said, Donaghy was not the refs. The crooked refs were Dick Bavetta, Bob Delaney and Ted Bernhardt

im a huge lakers fan and this game was definitely rigged. Also ex referree Tim Donaghy who refereed that game and was later convicted of federal felony conspiracy charges,admitted to rigging this game in order to get a game 7 to generate more ticket sales and higher ratings. Some of the kings games were also rigged in the Kings favor but this particular one was for the Lakers
