I truly don’t understand people complaining about the color. The device is not meant to have vibrant colors like phones and tablets. It’s an e-reader meant to make it easier on the eyes.

I don't like the color, compared to other color e-readers. Mind you it was hard deciding weather or not to get this as it was 1/3rd of the cost of the note air 3c, but the screen size alone made it worth and, and more vibrant colors (albeit still pastel/muted compared to lcd) was just a plus. (also got it for a steal eofy sale so it was only twice the cost of the kobo for twice the screen size.

My apologies if this is a repeat or known info..... For Overdrive, I exclusively use Libby for checking out books. I have multiple library cards in it. And while I only have one card on my Kobo to access from the store, anything that is compatible with my Kobo that I borrow on Libby shows up on my Kobo when I sync. This also gives me the extra ability to read magazines on my phone and listen to borrowed audio books on my commute through the phone. Also, I sometimes find myself not wanting to browse via the e-ink screen for new books to borrow. I am an anxious person and I worry about wasting battery on that and sometimes the slowness. So Libby on my phone reduces those anxieties. Typically, I only use the store/borrow feature on reader when I want to see a specific book, not browse for books, or subjects, or authors.

I have ordered a kobo libra color and can't wait to get it in the mail. Bought it for myself as a birthday present. Turns 35 in August. I'm already a kobo girl so I think I'll like this one. Have kindle, but bought kobo h20 because of libby and since I got it a few years ago, kobo has been my favorite.

People saying it's dark or gray are talking about how when the backlight is totally OFF, it's dark. Which is how an eReader is supposed to be used. WITHOUT the light on. I like having the backlight as an option when it IS too dark, but if it's dark when a light is on behind you or in a well lit room and you have to turn on the backlight.. yeah it's basically turning your eReader into another screen with a light shining back into your face. I dont' want that. I want it to be paper-like.

Thanks! I live in a state with a few major city libraries that offer free membership to any state resident. I also patron the New Orleans library ($50 a year) but it’s a donation to the library and their catalog is AMAZING! 👏🏻👏🏻

Unfortunately, I don’t believe there is a setting for that. The only thing I would recommend is not using a “sleep cover” and stick with a model like the clear case that will show the book cover all the time when it’s in sleep mode. I hope that helps.

I've got mine for about two weeks now and I love it!❤ it is everything I could want in an E reader. The screen looks amazing, even if it is a bit dimmer than the b/w screens. And the best thing is that you can annotate directly in the book. I don't think that I can go back to kindle after having experienced the Kobo Libra Color.

Interesting, I really haven’t noticed. The screen light is different, but I toggle the daytime and evening setting modes. It works fine for me, and I wear glasses too.

I have a question, when you make notes in the libra and save them. Can you see those on the Kobo app on your phone? Because then you could make a grocery list, and use your phone to pull it up instead of bringing the ereader to the store which would be kinda awkward.

Hmmm looks good but I think I’m going to wait till a bigger one comes out. I’m having my eye on the Boox tab X as the screen is really big (I think even 13”) and the screen has a much higher resolution. Which is good for reading scanned books. But that one isn’t available in colour yet.

Yes, I’m pretty sure I received an ARC and was able to. I’ll go back and double check! If the pen doesn’t work, try your index fingerI get lazy and quick highlight that way.

If that is the Kobo clear case, the left side of the case is flat so that the pen magnet will grab the stylus. You still have to be careful not to knock it off but at least it isn't where the page turn buttons are.

I highly suggest getting a Kobo Libra travel carry bag cover if you bought the clear case protector. I always bring my Libra Colour with me, and just yesterday, I found a tiny scratch on the lower bottom. The things in my bag are my leather wallet, a very thin magazine about writing, XE1 camera inside its styrofoam pouch, and a lens inside a plastic bag with a silica gel packet. God knows how it got the scratch and I am mildy annoyed how useless the clear case is except for aesthetic purposes. In fact, I was already happy using the box that came with the Kobo Libra Colour, the packaging was a win of a design.

@@M-J hmm it resembles more like a little trace that remains when you pull out a sticky adhesive. An imperfection but not very noticeable. My 10yrs+ old Kobo Touch don't have any scratches cos the case also has a front cover. It's Kobo's fault for offering such uninspiring color designs for the cases that's why I resorted to the clear case

For anyone who wants a white stylus for a fraction of the cost of the Kobo Stylus, you can use styluses that can be used for Microsoft Surface. So long as it has MPP2.0, it would work in place of the Kobo Stylus. I have one that's more than half of the cost of the Kobo Stylus and it works the same. I've also seen on Kobo Reddit that people liked the Renaisser brand of stylus.

And for the issue of using a clear case without protection for the screen, I have an ereader sleeve with thick padding for when I need to put it in my bag. With that, I can have the aesthetic of the clear case but my Kobo is safe in my bag. The pen also goes in the sleeve so I don't lose it.

PRO TIP ABOUT THE OVERDRIVE INTEGRATION: It is *not* recommended to add each library on the device. It is better to simply login using your Overdrive credentials rather than your library’s. And as long as your libraries are connected to your Overdrive account, you would have access to all of them without having to switch between libraries on your Kobo. I could be wrong but I believe that’s how it works.

@@M-J What will happen is it will ask you to choose a library *before* signing in. Do so, then you scan a QR code which will direct you to Overdrive’s website. There, you login with your Overdrive account, *not* a library card. After that, it’s simply about managing your cards on the Libby app and it *should* allow you to borrow books from the Kobo device regardless of what library from which you borrow.

@@M-J Also, it’s best to search for what you want and sort it through Overdrive rather than going to the Overdrive tab. It looks like I was wrong, though. It seems the Kobo only allows one library at a time, *but* you can borrow from whichever library using the Libby app (which will then sync automatically to your Kobo as you logged in with your Overdrive credentials).

I had my eye on the Onyx Boox Note Air 3 C, but went in an entirely different direction, getting the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, with a massive 14.6 in screen, as I love having an e-book opened on my left, and a notebook on my right, so I can take notes while reading, copy and paste, drag and drop images, etc. (I am reading a lot of non-fiction and trying to increase my knowledge on various subjects). The Air 3C also has a split screen feature, but the Samsung is like having two 7- inch e-readers side by side, and the larger size is a lot more comfortable for me. But... I STILL LOVE the Scribe and use it every day! Now someone needs to come out with an e-ink display on a 14.6 inch tablet, LOL! Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend, MJ! "It's not grey, I've got brightness at 87%" ! On my Libra2 I never have my brightness above 30% No wonder you chew through battery life. I believe the lighting was meant a commodity not a necessity. I believe the first eReaders came without. 87% doesn't sound good at all to me.

If you actually listened, I said annotating uses the battery not the brightness. I increase the brightness to MY liking for the color aspect. Also, half battery life after one week of constant use isn’t “chewing” in my experience. It’s a fantastic device.

@@M-J I did hear you and I didn't listen. If I tell you earth is flat you'll hear but won't listen either. On which ground do you pretend annotating uses the battery not the brightness ? brightness at 87% is for sure a good amount of that drain. I have no problem with your brightness setting. If you had read my comment you might have noticed it only becomes a problem in conjunction with "It's not grey". Of course it's not grey at 87% but then you might be better off with a tablet. Unexperienced people who watch you might think this is normal and buy it on false pretence as seems to be the case. Chewing might be a bit strong but half battery life after one week of "constant" use is either a miracle or around half what I'm used to. I have 860 hours on my Libra2.

I guess Kobo doesn't think people collect library cards. Silly Kobo. Because I watched your original review I've been recommended other Kobo content. It seems the Metapen works on Kobo which might be the only way to get that white.

I think having more than 1 library card is an American thing. I think in most countries the online library is under the national library, so the content is the same for everyone. Still as America is a big market it would be nice if they fix this for you all. And M.J thanks for the review :D

Nice review, thank you. The following is NOT directed at you... it's a general comment. I have never understood the obsession some have with battery life for any device, smartphone, smartwatch, tablet, and even more so with ereaders. Is it really such a catastrophe in life to... GASP... plug a device in to charge overnight while you're sleeping? 🤦

I totally get it. BUT, the battery life when annotating is absolutely depleted quicker and it’s important when reviewing to make note of it - for those that care.

I wish people could accept the legitimacy of other opinions and not act like anyone that disagrees with you is a stupid idiot with an invalid opinion. If you read outdoors then the front light doesn’t have any effect whatsoever and you would be better off with a yellowed newspaper from fifty years ago. If you don’t use the front light because you want the screen to match ambient light the color screen would still be hard to read. I’ve seen posts deleted and users banned on Reddit for speaking truth on this matter. Please Kobo doesn’t even want you to do this. They fully refunded my order and gave me a huge ebook bonus. I wouldn’t shame you for setting your ereaders brighter than I set my iPad. Please don’t throw shade at me for wanting to read outside. Let’s stop the fomo. It is perfectly okay and true to be disappointed in the native contrast of the Libra color.

The library card missive seems indicative of your generation. No offense, but the "I'm entitled to everything at once without having to do anything for it," seems to permeate your thinking. Hey the pen clicks to the other side of the device the opposite of the page turn buttons according to other videos ive seen kinda like the scribe although you might've figured that out later in the video or since this video i havent finished it yet but wanted to drop this tip while i was thinking about it cause adhd brain would forget by the end of the video
