Big design update guys! Although it fits my truck perfectly in this video there is a design change you should be aware of. The tailgate portion now sits on top of the tail gate. Meaning, the bottom portion no longer wraps underneath the tailgate. I tried it and it fits even better. I have a buddy with a Ford Raptor and the tent didn't fit super well at first. Then, after noting the design change and the instruction manual :) it works perfectly on his F-150. Super slick. New video coming soon...only difference is the step where the tailgate goes underneath - the tent now rests on top of the tailgate, but has extra straps that hold it in place really well.

I bought one of these a month or two ago. Watched a ton of setup videos. Yours is far and away the BEST setup instructions. Wish I'd found it first! I hope you're planning to do some camping videos to let us know how it works out in the field. Thanks very much!

Hey, thanks for your comment. I appreciate that. There is one significant mistake I made in that video. I didn’t realize that the tent had been slightly modified. Now, in models 2020 and newer the tailgate part of the tent simply rests on the tailgate (instead of wrapping under it). That makes a big difference on some models, especially F-150’s.

Thanks for the setup video! I just got one a few weeks ago and did a test setup, it went smooth. Tent seems very durable. My truck is a 2006 Toyota Tundra double cab and fits just fine.

Thanks for the video...One thing i noticed is i believe that gold colored piece that you have 'under' your tail gate should actually be up inside the tent for dirty shoes etc... Very informative thank you

Cindy you are spot on! Good observation. I have a comment below that begins with "Big design update" to address that issue. But, you are right and I am going to redo this video as it makes a world of difference having that part above the tailgate as opposed to the older style that used to have it below the tailgate. Sorry about that and I'm glad you noticed.

Thank you for this video. I'm in the market for one of these, and I just so happen to have the same model tundra as you. So this was very helpful and informative. Thank you.

Very cool video, i love my tent i have a nissan titan 6.5 ft bed it works well i winter camp in it for the last 3 years in 20F and snow , couple pro tips i do, is i put the 3 poles together and lay them in the bed so there ready to put in when i jump in the bed of the truck also i put together and put the small poles in the front and back over hangs before i put the tent up then once you have it up you just put the ends in and pop those up , also i carry a small step ladder for putting those in and you can use it for getting in and out of your truck. I also instead of using C clamps i use small bolts to hold down the brackets for the poles hope you get lots of use out of your truck tent, im at home watching you tube videos with a torn ham string, wishing i could be out camping, lol cheers

…as always great ! Spoke to you a few years back when you helped me secure a Flex Bow… have now bought 4 I think…1 in the after market… but now without because I’ve given them to friends and family that wanted to start camping. Considering this for my Honda Ridgeline…if not maybe back to the 2 man which is an awesome tent too. Wish they put a nice awning on the 2 man like the ones on the big Flex Bows. Thanks … Bob

How did it work on your Ridgeline? I gave a 2023 and am considering getting the tent. I spoke with Kodiak and they said I could try it but they don’t recommend it because the tent is designed to go between the cab and the bed to shed water. I was wondering if I could get an adequate seal on the top edge of the bed…let me know.

Dee, you don't have to tighten the straps at first. Just make sure the tent hangs full outside the truck bed. Then tighten the straps after you install the polls. I'm 69, but no shoulder issues, tho.

I'm interested in this truck tent. As I'm getting a Ford Powerboost, I like that it has no floor. I want access to the Pro Power panel. I'll have a Bedrug liner so it should be real nice inside. I'm also planning on having t-slots on the bed rails. I'm hoping I'll be able to bolt down the Kodiak rail rather than clamping it down.

I was tempted to bolt mine down as well as the clamps are a bit odd looking and big. What's a bed rug liner?
@OldAndGettingOlder
@OldAndGettingOlder 2 жыл бұрын
Bedrug. Plastic carpet. Doesn't absorb liquid. For a camping setup it is the bees knees. It's a great bed liner. I say carpet, but it is tough as nails.

Thanks for your video....I'm thinking about would this work putting in up in a 5x10 trailer?? Could you help me with what size tent I may want? And do you think it might work?? Again thanks for the video and I look forward to your thoughtS

That sounds awesome. There are a lot of customers who have done just that. You might find them in the facebook kodiak group pages. I think they built the trailer around the tent.

I have a tundra where the entire rear window retracts down. Because there isn’t a way to enclose and incorporate the back window I guess you can’t leave the rear window completely open. And does charging your phone at night wear down the car battery? Thanks the video. Very helpful.
@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts Жыл бұрын
Charging the phone at night doesn't wear my battery enough to drain it, but I don't leave my tundra window down because of the bugs. I think if you could close a smaller window (not tundra) around a cord it would be very effective.

I will be ordering my tent very soon. Since my truck bed has ribs on the floor I intend on building a floor for mine with water proof laminate type of flooring. This way I can sleep on my sleeping pad directly on the floor instead of having a cot. I wonder if the company has done any testing if you want to drive short distances to see if the tent set up remains stable?
@Competitiveedgeproducts

Great points. Thanks for your comments. You can drive short distances, but I wouldn't go about 20 mph.

I just asked kodiak yesterday about seeing a video on the setup. I am a 64 yr old woman camper with a 21 Toyota tacoma. I believe I need to go to the midsized truck tent which is a tad bit different I think. It looked to me like the midsized trucks awning in the back goes down a little further. Can you comment on that please? I have the TRD off road. I am just concerned on the amount of strength I sold need to get these poles in place. I already can set up the 9 x 8 flex bow I have with not much problem.Having had 6 shoulder surgeries including 1 replacement is my concern. The other thing is my height. I am only 5'3" and need a stool to get in the back of my truck. I believe one person said get a 3 step gorilla ladder except I have a service dog who needs to get in the bed as well. How practical is this? He can jump in my double cab with no problem however the bed is a little different. So do you think I would have much trouble with this tent?? I am familiar with a lot of tents as I have been camping for years and spent 20+ years in the military. I also put a luggable loo in my tent which works great. Looking forward to your comments. I wondered did you have access to your power plug in the bed as well? Not sure if you have one. Dee Dee

I believe I chatted with you on your site the other day. I'm looking forward to ordering mine tomorrow. My only concern is that I have a taco with the 5' bed and I am 6' 2". So, I will fit with the tailgate down but it will be tight. I can always sleep diagonally if I need to :). I was just wondering if it no longer wrapping under the tailgate will shorten the inside room. Hope not. I know, should have gotten a longer bed but that ship has sailed. Either way I will make it work! I am also thinking of getting some of the rubber workout mats that come in puzzle form.

Hey guys, Just wanted to say that this truck tent is great. My youngest daughter suggested that I use magnets to hold the folded material in place. I have a short bed Taco and it was expected. I sewed some pouches for the magnets and place them on the excess folded material. They work great! Just a little hack for taking care of the excess material. Again, this is a great tent and I look forward to many years of camping with it.

Can you install the poles first, and then put the canvas tent over the poles?
@Competitiveedgeproducts
@Competitiveedgeproducts Жыл бұрын
Good question. You can't install the poles first, because it's a tight fit. It would be amazing if they could rig some type of telescoping pole that extended even 6-12 inches. That could allow you to set the poles up, then through the canvas over it.
@capt.joeyvandyke1058
@capt.joeyvandyke1058 Жыл бұрын
What I do when moving spot to spot is just take the poles out of the holders on the sides and collapse it in the bed and travel around. When I'm back at my campsite I can easily put it back up a lot faster than original set up.

@@capt.joeyvandyke1058 Good question. You can drive a bit faster with it collapsed, but not road traveling speeds of like 40mph. I wouldn't, at least.

Good question. I usually camp on the beach and it's either bugless with the wind or a nightmare. It's possible I've gotten a bug or two inside, but I've never noticed. I hate mosquitos the most, but I haven't had any issue where I've had to modify the tent to keep them out.
