Thanks for sharing this... I've been to Samui a few times now -- looking to return in December & January (yeah, high season). Probably going to split my time between Lamai and Maenam... ... ultimately, I'm looking for a community to use as my "home base" while in Thailand for extended stays -- 3 months or more. Would like to find an affordable longer term rental where I can drop my bags and travel more freely. ... trying to find the ideal compromise between convenience and a relaxing atmosphere. A place not so busy that I can get to know the locals better, rather than just being another tourist passing through.

im thinking of going for a few months, do you need a visa if travelling from the uk or no? Also can i just book a 1 way ticket or do immigration expect a return ticket to allow you into the country?

You get a visa on arrival when you land in Thailand for one month, so you don’t need to do anything in advance. You can also get that extended for a further month while here from immigration for 1900 Baht. No I’ve never had to have a return ticket, if asked I would say I’m leaving by land
