Kohler V twin governor failed and repaired

Has your Kohler V twin engine governor failed and cant find a good video, this will help.
We take this CH 980 Kohler engine (large series 35 hp) and diagnosis and replace the internal governor then adjust it.
This particular series of engines has an internal governor assembly that is different than many others and if it fell apart figuring out how it goes together can be a challenge. I share how it goes together and how to adjust it.

Thank you for posting a step by step easy to follow video on whats involved in doing this. I have a Kohler Command CH20 on a Cub Cadet that is running at WOT regardless of where the throttle lever is set. Linkages and carburetor are proper. Looks like I'll be cracking the case.

Im working on my old friends Kohler command pro 26 725 his govenor is set right its right on where it needs to be his govenor spring though is loose and he's missing the throttle limiter spring He might just need the whole new plate the limiter lever been rubbing his plate a long time could be bent or unless they've got it bolted down to tight

I’m not sure about this engine but on the Honda 630 V engine if the cam plastic gear is that dark color it’s best to replace cam and any other plastic gear that dark Learn it the hard way Heat has effected the Gears and will break soon

This just happened to me I replaced the governor gear on a ECV 980. When changing gov gear I noticed darker color of the cam gear. One month later, the cam gear exploded. Replacement cam gear is steel. Plastic has no place in these engines.

Not on that Kohler that's oil on his metal camshaft their not plastic mine wasn't mine are the same color soon as the oil is cleaned off you have shiny silver. The most that can and have worn out on those are the lobes but he'll know it when they do if they ever do I've not had a Kohler with any camshaft problems yet

But sometimes they don't because i put one back together in a single cylinder Kohler command engine no pieces was broken i checked i seen the mower was last in a mower shop in 2004 plus its last owner played around with trying to fix it so either the shop didn't hold one piece of the governor while setting it or the owner didn't and they made the governor inside the engine fall apart inside My question to the last owner of the Lt155 was why didn't the shop fix that problem it didn't take no new part it just needed put back together and put in place so i done all that the engine still works great now not sure how many hours are on it theres no meter it has less hours im sure from it sitting with the last owner unfixed for so long its just a cheap little Kohler command cv491s

Was it just in wide open throttle or was it surging also? I have the same engine but it surges after 10 seconds in wide open

Never test it once it happens Just take it apart and find the problem Heard of mechanic blowing one up trying to video it Kinda foolish and he got sued also and lost Thanks for video and information about the situation and fix
