Had to jump on and say thanks for making this video! I have a Snapper 36" mower with a Kohler Command Pro 12.5 motor. I was messing with the governor shaft in order to install a new governor shaft seal. After I put it back together and adjusted the governor, the mower would run way too fast and I would have to shut it off. I wasn't sure what happened. Saw this video, took the bottom pan off, and there was that same piece laying there - it had come off the governor. Great learning experience and glad it was a simple fix. Thanks again!

Glad I could help! Wish I knew the video I watched to learn to do this. I'd give him credit!

I currently have my command engine pulled apart because the govenor was not working properly. Found some teeth missing on the govenor gear and the pin in my oil pan. Your video has been a great help! Cheers!

I'm glad I could help! I think these are fairly common engines so you ought to be able to get yourself another gear pretty easily or just an entire replacement engine and have another for parts.

If I knew then what I know now, I'd never have let that tractor go away. Live and learn!!! Excellent vid.

I was considering removing the governor and making it a straight throttle but the customer didn't want that. I'm glad for that since I got to learn about this engine a bit. This was the only one I've had time with though and it's back at his house. I'd be happy to make a vid like that but I don't have one around to do it with.If you search "fearlessfront" and "mudding tractors" though I'm sure he can tell you how to do it. He's really into modding tractors. He might even have a vid up about it.

Not sure why this video is downvoted so much. This saved my ass thank you!

As long as you found it useful I don't much care if people downvote it. Glad to help!

It's the camera work. The info is valuable - very valuable. But don't waste my time telling me about your RV. And don't give me a headache with the camera moving all around. Again - Info about the problem is great.

I'm pretty sure it was the only one that deals with the internals. If I can't find it on here and I get the chance I make a video. Hope I could help, and thanks for watching!

Did the governor gear fly off again? Manual says there are plastic tabs on the governor gear to hold it on the shaft.

I have a Kohler Cub cadet 624cc mower gov seems to work fine but when I engage the blades the mower looses so much power it cant turn the belts fast enough to cut grass properly, done the governor adjustments new belts new pullies, do you think I need a new governor gear kit? or there something else I can try first
@heliarche6 жыл бұрын
Have you checked out the spindles on your blades? Also might be a brake on the blades that when you disengage it stops the blades. Check for that.
@patrick97615 жыл бұрын
yes did all that it just powers down when I hit the PTO I adjusted the gov... but now I am suspicious of the gov gear will pull apart today...wlll let you knw the outcome Cheers Pat @@heliarche

@@patrick9761If you can, with the tractor NOT RUNNING, unhook the belt that goes from the engine to the deck so you just have the mower deck belt running between the pulleys but not hooked to the engine you know? Then engage the deck, still not running the engine. Make sure the blades spin freely. I just had a tractor that's doing what you're talking about. They have brakes on the blade pulleys. When you disengage the PTO, they want the blades to stop instantly so they have a brake that activates when you disengage the deck. The one on mine failed and would not let off. It would run the deck but drag the engine down considerably. If your engine seems fine when running and driving I'd look elsewhere than the governor. Besides, cheap and simple to slip a belt off.

will do and thanks !@@heliarche

5/8" is 15.9 mm so companies figure you have a 5/8ths socket why bother with a 16mm as well.
@ryanmacewen5114 жыл бұрын
And, that is WHY. lol
@DualsportDisport3 жыл бұрын
Yes but 3/4 works on 19mm and 11/16 on 17mm. This has frustrated me for years!!! Include the 16mm!! Lol

If you mean the actual case half of the engine I showed where you put the drive end of a 3/8" ratchet in between two lugs sticking out of the aluminum then you turn the ratchet and it breaks it loose.After that just keep working it and it will come off.Don't put a screwdriver between the case halves or you'll never get it to seal when you put it back together.

Have you ever remove the governor on this engine? I am considering using one for a racing motor. I was told that you do not bypass the governor but remove it if possible. Would you please consider making a video of a a governor removal?
