The bass is killer, the instrumental bridge is perfect, and the piano (Kanade?) is a very nice touch. The chorus sounds like BabyMetal to me, really catchy. And yes Kotono’s English is very, very clear. I know I’ll be listening to this mini album a lot when it finally arrives. Thanks.

“Kotono’s English is very, very clear”. Well, it’s very clear for a Japanese band. This was actually the very first thing that stood out to me about her vocals (clarity of her English), the next was how soft they sounded, while conveying a bit more emotion (or feels) than the usual for Japanese bands as well. It works well for the type of music they put out.

It was my favorite track (and I love all 5!) at first listen! I'd say they've concentrated all their best assets here, it's a condensed version of KOIAI! 😃. Also, there's Wakazaemon bass shining here 🤩. About "Just Be My Treasure": it was a Li-sa-X Band song, with former singer.

Good song, I like what I have heard so far from these very talented ladies. 👍

You asked if the last song is a cover. ‘Just Be My Treasure’ is their song (Li-sa-X and Hazuki), but is a different version that has the new members listed here: Wakazaemon (bassist), Kanade Sato (drums), and Kotono (singer). Wakazaemon is not an official member yet, but people think she’s going to join.

Technically the fifth song is a self-cover, lol. 8 am is an excellent song, a bit more progressive, more elaborate, it reminds me conceptually of A New Picture, for me their best composition. BTW, the bass sounds excellent!

Told you already- Kanade plays piano, but I wouldn't be surprised if one of the other members also could play as well. This one sounds more a regular rock song at first, but after a few listens? For me the first and last tracks on the EP are the strongest.

“Told you already” I believe he said that he has an issue forgetting things, like names and such, and to just repeat it again. I told him things he later forgot as well. As for other members also playing piano? Probably, but I couldn’t find anything. Just this about Kanade Sato from her official website: “While she was in music high school (percussion major), she studied not only percussion but also music theory, solfege, and piano.”

I thought the piano was played by Lisa. I remember reading that somewhere with regard to the piano in the prior two EPs (before Kanade joined). Either way, it sounds great. I’m not a huge fan of upbeat piano in rock songs (like in classic Toto - sacrilege, I know), but the way KOIAI utilizes piano works for me.

Thanks for letting me know, but please be aware that these were recorded all at the same time, it often takes a few days to get to the comments as well as I am editing several channels. So, if you comment something on a video, it is quite possible the next one was already recorded long before the comment. I do take notes though for future reference though of course :)

I think they all -Can- play piano, not sure why Kanade is singled out (here in comments). My understanding regarding the recordings tho is that after LisaX presented the songs’ chords and arrangements to the producer, the producer then programmed any instruments not played by the band; so keys on this EP, but keys, drums and bass in previous EPs (except for Billy Sheehan playing bass on the first LisaXBand track, which was also Hazuki’s first recorded participation (she’d played live for a while before bringing in Rina to sing, and that addition of vocals prompted the move from LisaX solo to LisaX Band.)) Love this EP. Been listening to their second EP a lot recently too, love it as well. The first one I like less, both songwriting and Kotono were still sort of finding their way, and the band still doesn’t seem to quite know how much pop they want to blend in. But LisaX’s merch slogan is Shredilicious, and I love me the progginess & jazz chords, piano breakdowns etc, so keep bringing the variety Ladies 🎸😎 If you don’t know Gacharic Spin’s Juicy Beats, check out the 2019 10th anniversary live recording, Angie at 17(entering final year of high school); she had them rework an Armmy era dance tune, keeping the prog breakdown, but adding both serious heaviness to it and a piano breakdown 🤷♂️🤘💃 kzbin.info/www/bejne/poDFoYBjgrOjjM0si=Mux2yyxcQPTotUB8

“not sure why Kanade is singled out” Edit: From the Beep Beep reaction, I found one comment (from grahamreed8774) saying: “The Drummer Kanade plays piano, and Hazuki provides backing vocals.”, and I think he means this in relation to recordings. There was a second comment somewhere that suggested something live, but I can’t find it. You can probably look into that, then let me know too, because I don’t know exactly where they got it from. I can only find Kanade mentioning experience with piano (from her official website), but nothing with her actually playing it.

Like the song a lot, huge chorus (very earwormy). In a way the verses seem overwhelmed by the chorus, like the band can't wait to get to the chorus. Is the second verse in songs starting with the bass and drums becoming a cliche, like key change after the bridge, or the halftime bit ? (Talking generally not this song .)

My honest opinion, is her English is unusually good/clear (speaking in contrast to other Japanese bands), but PART of the reason you’re not always hearing it (like in the other songs, but noticing it here), is because she’s not always singing in it (she switches to Japanese). For example, listen to Come See Me again, and her English stands out fairly well enough (like in the beginning) in contrast to when she switches to Japanese in that same song. I believe you are the only channel that mentioned that you couldn’t tell the difference between when she she’s using Japanese and English. If I remember right, Beep Beep starts in Japanese, and so I suppose you should check the beginning of both songs, and see if you can tell any difference (I’m curious). There are bands that sing entirely in English, Lovebites comes to mind, but I wouldn’t consider this to be “cheesy” as you put it. I would say too, that even though Asami (from Lovebites) lacks the same degree of clarity (to my ears), that it is still not an issue for me in that way either. Edit: I need to emphasize, that I’m only saying her English sounds clear relative to other Japanese bands.
