I think this guy has the best classic weightlifting form out of any strongman competitors that I've ever seen. His squats are more like olympic squats than powerlifting squats, and he puts up huge weights on those as well. Rather beastly, good work.

Excellent strength and good form. This is impressive. I just recently watched Klokov's 495 push press, which was also impressive. Koklyaev and Klokov are Russia's best overhead lifters

@UserIdGoesHere I'm just curious why you're watching a video about someone showing his strength. There are many videos showing people doing cardio. If that's what you're interested in that's what you should be watching. Do you watch drag races and complain that, even though they are the fastest drivers in the world, they probably couldn't run that fast? This isn't an "abs of steel" video. It's about weightlifting. He seems to be pretty good at it, don't you think?

@Nickball52 I've been to one of the top Oly gyms in the nation (California Strength) for a bit of coaching and to get my own Oly shoes, and do "Oly only" days 1-2 times per week on top of my other lifting. Are you really going to try telling me that Olympic lifting gets anywhere near the level of recognition here that it does in many other nations, particularly in the Baltic and Eastern European regions? How many people, out of those who even go to gyms, actually know what the Oly lifts are?

@sr19 America's alright - though the commercial gym craze has polluted a lot of areas. You can still find a serious gym in just about any major metropolitan area, but sometimes you have to be willing to travel 30-60 minutes each way. Still, things seemed to be much worse in Ireland and Germany, so I guess I should count my blessings.

@ArentWeSpecial Fair enough, The explosion that these strength athletes have, the pure force and intensity I would say is far more demanding and a higher output than any "football" program. Why? In Football strength is only one element. To Oly-Lifters, Strongman, and Powerlifters, strength is their entire structure and purpose

There's no way that the overhead press is 100% shoulders. Look at the way they used to do the clean and press, and tell me that a large minority of that work isn't coming from the back. Though, I guess you're mainly emphasizing the involvement of the legs in the jerk with this comment.

The so called push press is a hybrid lift and it is better to do either a military press or a power jerk. The push press teaches the lifter bad habits with regards to locking out the elbows. Some super heavyweight lifters, like Misha can get away with it, but lighter lifters need to use more speed than brute force when training for competition. The strict military press is a must lift for all weightlifters, because it develops a strong base from which to begin the dip and drive in the jerk.

question 4 anyone with knowledge about this. the heavier i go on the pp, the more i feel like falling backwards, so i tighten my back. sometimes it cramps up and hurts, and i'm afraid i'll hurt something. what am i doing wrong?
@jimbones155
@jimbones155 12 жыл бұрын
I didn't say the lifter would suck at the jerk if they did the push press. I am saying it's not a relevant lift for developing speed and precision for the jerk. It's mostly a strongman stunt and that is what Misha is billed as.

@Nickball52 I'm talking about US-bashing by people who think that because America doesn't have focus on Olympic lifting, and therefore does poorly at the international level, that their nation(s) is superior in terms of overall athleticism and physical strength. Top strength coaches have said for years that our best natural athletes go into the NFL, NBA, or track and that the public currently doesn't understand/care much about strength sports, particularly the Olympic lifts. Simple truth.
