@bethanyhaskiell9116 I like this PC-1250-8 excavator as well. But my favorite heavy duty excavator is the old Koehring model 1266d from way back in the 1980’s.I had the good fortune of getting to see one work on a big project in NJ. The machine was an absolute beast.I watched the operator dig down to just inches shy of 40 feet deep. The big Koehring was fitted with about an 8 cubic yard bucket.Seeing that machine work was very impressive sight. The 1266d had an operating weight of 260,000 lbs , (130 ) tons. With that said, I do realize that the Komatsu PC-1250-8 would definitely outperform the Koehring by a substantial margin. The Komatsu being so much more advanced with technology.

@williamhall9204 Definitely love the old Koehring 1266 ,1166,and 1066 they are some of my favorites in the old classic big iron along with the Cat 245 and 235

@@bethanyhaskiell9116 Just wanted to mention another model that was in the Koehring excavator lineup. It was Koehring’s flagship unit. The Koehring 1466 was the largest machine built by the company. The 1466 could be ordered in backhoe configuration, or in shovel configuration.Weight of the backhoe version was 292,000 lbs. So that makes it 16 tons heavier than the 1266d. The 1466 was substantially heavier when set up as a shovel. When the 1466 was set up in shovel configuration, the weight was 308,000 lbs.(154 tons).Unfortunately I never had the chance to see the 1466 in real life. Only in brochures, books, videos, etc.

the most astonishing thing to me about komatsu excavators is how slow they are....I mean dash 11 stuff is still absolutely the slowest excavator I've ever run and I doubt they're going to be as durable as the older dash 8 and older models....mind numbingly slow komatsus

Yeah I spent a bunch of time on a PC450 this fall what a god awful machine. So friggin slow and gutless. Terrible cab layout too Hitachi and Deere machines are far superior machines

@robheinitz6108 If the speed of the Komatsu excavators is so poor, wouldn’t Komatsu be losing a big chunk of market share? I don’t understand how Komatsu could be selling many PC-3000 backhoes to the mining industry with such a major performance flaw.I’m just trying to make sense out of it. Top notch mining operations pay great attention to loading cycle times. There are some companies that have it down to a science. I can’t imagine a big, successful mining company would purchase a truck loading excavator that has really bad cycle times. Speed is such an important factor in overall profitability.Let me emphasize,I’m not trying to argue with you, it’s just not making a lot of sense to me.

There the best excavators made I spent a lot of time in a PC 300 would out work any 300 series machines definitely is not slow also did a some time in a PC 490 LC again definitely not slow all have really good power Hitachi excavators are a real good machines also thought

Yes the SP version is the short front with lots of bucket! AKA an ME in Cat language.

A Hyundai R1200-9 that I had the opportunity to film, which has the same operating weight, was split into three loads: Tracks and body, boom and stick, counterweight.

2-3 loads which depends on the state and permitting. A super load permit in Pennsylvania would allow the body of that machine less the attachment and counterweight to be hauled as one load.

Is the idea of two bucket cylinders that two smaller cylinders provide greater force than one larger cylinder? Always found it strange that it has dual bucket cylinders but single stick cylinder.

It has to do with the linkage connections down near the bucket and resistance of torque loads developed by point loads that can occur corners of the bucket.

Its actually for higher break and tear-out force- this answer is right from Komatsu. I don't understand how it could have anything to do with the linkage, which is designed for the cylinders. The same torque loads are applied to every excavator bucket and not all excavators have two curl cylinders lol.

@@PAmining A single bucket cylinder works fine for most machines but I think the engineers wanted this huge machine to be able to work with a very wide bucket and when they ran the numbers with all the crowding load on one of the corners of the bucket, it put a unreasonably large twisting load on the bucket linkage and lower portion of the stick.
