I wanna say one big part of japanese work culture (or japanese culture in general) is to not speak out of line. Your superior is your superior in every way, and it's unacceptable to disrespect them. That's how you end up with a glut of employees who commit suicide instead of challenging their work environment.
@kyotanaka9202 жыл бұрын
@@volbla Its part of Japanese culture as a whole, not just the work culture. Sega's Judgement Lost (a Yakuza spinoff following a detective) tackles this specific problem when it came to bullying in High School. It is far more complex than just shitty people getting into position of power. Japan also suffers from spineless citizens being taught to "conform to the norm" no matter what happens. Ignore when someone is in trouble, be it from bullying in class to actual train molestations. This entire mindset in general is why Japan has a high suicide rate, the workforce is just a tip of the iceberg to that problem. This all happens because people that makes themselves stand out rather than standing in line is often seen the more problematic figure, and standing up to bullies is the best way to stand out. Some more dumber examples of this in action is again, in schools. Let's say you happen to be mixed and have brown hair because of it... You would be in violation of the numerous standard dress codes the school enforce for dying your hair. Nevermind that brown is your natural hair color, if you don't dye that shit to black to match every other students in school, you'll be in trouble for dying your hair. The schools are not very flexible with their rules, and even if they are they aren't willing to bend on this particular issue because in their minds: They are not the one causing problems. You are, for having the gulls to be born with brown hair and not black like everyone else. Granted this issue is pretty minor in the grand scheme of all of this, but petty issues like this should make it obvious how bad this problem really is.

@@kyotanaka920 Japan as a whole seems to follow the wording of something rather than the spirit. @@sirapple589 The instance Kyo brings up is based off of an actual incident in Japan where a schoolgirl was expelled because she wouldn't dye her hair black; her natural color being brown. She was accused of dying her hair brown, which was in violation of the school's dress code, and the teachers who purportedly examined her roots insist that she was lying (even though this clearly wasn't the case). It's pretty much exactly what Kyo described - it didn't matter that the teachers were too prideful to admit that they were wrong, what mattered is that a teenage student spoke out against her teachers. She sued the school over it, even, and despite the overwhelming evidence in her favor, she still largely lost the case as the judge sided with the school in every regard except for her expulsion, and that was only because the school did not go through any channels for the expulsion in the first place.

I want to add that in Konami's rhythm games around 2013-15, musicians who worked in-house at Konami also had their names scrubbed from songs to be replaced with a generic "BEMANI Sound Team". Every musician who worked with Konami beyond playable songs had their name changed to this. It's a miracle this change was later reverted but the fact that this made it to the public eye says everything

They didn't really fall from grace. They just abandoned their legacy in one industry to move to another one. It's terrible what they do to their employees. but they're doing it in their country. One where this kind of abuse is culturally acceptable.

@@luliu4572 The problem with Konami is that with the exception of Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders, Silent Hill, and Bomber man R, they ether struggle to make 3d games or they can't translate their games well in 3d. They tried to bring Castlevania and Contra into 3d, they mostly got bad reception. Which is a problem because 2d games are too difficult to sell well. Lords of Shadow is the best selling Castlevania game but it's not as great as the 2d games. Hard Corps was great, yet no one talks about it???? Why Because it's a modern 2d game and Konami believes that 2d games are too niche. So it feels like Konami has to give up if the games aren't selling well.

I play some of their Bemani games too. I didn't know that about IIDX, at least songs that required E-Amuse eventually get playable for everyone. I love playing Drummania, but for some strange reason here in the U.S, you can't access Extra/Encore stage songs. You can't play long songs either. No way to play Deluxe mode (requires Paseli) to unlock songs you may have missed out on from past events in older games. Certain events to unlock some songs don't appear to be allowed either. At least some recent events let you unlock former Encore stage songs along with other former event songs, which is nice, for those who missed out on getting them.

Even though they still make arcade games you can find at your local Round 1 (mainly their Bemani games other than DDR), it's like they don't care about their reputation and other IP's. What also bothers me is how they sometimes pretend they still care about their franchises and legacy. For example, the choices of Konami characters you can play in Super Bomberman R Online. Characters who mostly didn't have a recent game. Other Konami franchises worth mentioning that haven't had a game in so long: Gradius Goemon Twinbee Suikoden Rocket Knight Adventures/Sparkster The only other franchises Konami seems to pretend to care about now is Yu Gi Oh, Pro Evolution Soccer (which is now called E-Football) and Castlevania.

I remember Koji Igarashi got fed up with not being able to make more 2D Castlevania games anymore because they “don’t appeal to people anymore” (bare in mind this was around 2014 or so when Metroidvania games were starting to really get popular with indie games). He then left to make the Bloodstained series, one of the most successful kickstarters and a game that both sold and reviewed super well (because believe it or not, good games usually are successful). In that time there’s been like 4 Castlevania games, one of which was a 3D God of War style game in 2014, one of which was a mobile game, three of which are collections of older games (which granted are good, but that’s because they were mostly good to begin with), and now NFTs. Truly, Konami knows what it’s doing by not making actual games anymore and having everyone who did make games leave over this fact.
