@@orangeslash1667 not only that but video game development is a huge gamble. Mobile gaming isn't flashy but it pays the bills. But now Konami is bringing back some of their IP's likely as a side project which isn't a bad business move. However the executives at Konami have shifted a lot since 2015 so there is a lot of possibilities going forward. However Kojima is just gonna continue making cinematic film games with contrived plots for the rest of his days.

The guy made a name for himself and he's definitely earned himself some haters. Love 'em or him, he's still created stuff that you would never imagine of making. Something that isn't mentioned, usually, in relation to Kojima and his troubles at Konami, is that not every title Kojima had his fingers in were financial bangers. More often than not, they would be critically panned and only become cult hits later in their life cycle a la MGS2, and some games only even got made in the first place from Kojima using his executive weight to ensure their development, such as Zone of the Enders and its sequel, despite their startlingly poor sales figures. He made several enemies on the board, especially compared to the project lead for the dragon mobile game who not only was bringing his highly profitable product to the table, but also ingratiating himself to the CEO.

@volbla
@volbla 2 жыл бұрын
I wanna say one big part of japanese work culture (or japanese culture in general) is to not speak out of line. Your superior is your superior in every way, and it's unacceptable to disrespect them. So when shitty people end up in positions of power, they can get away with doing a lot of shitty things. That's how you end up with a glut of employees who commit suicide instead of challenging their work environment.
@kyotanaka920
@kyotanaka920 2 жыл бұрын
@@volbla Its part of Japanese culture as a whole, not just the work culture. Sega's Judgement Lost (a Yakuza spinoff following a detective) tackles this specific problem when it came to bullying in High School. It is far more complex than just shitty people getting into position of power. Japan also suffers from spineless citizens being taught to "conform to the norm" no matter what happens. Ignore when someone is in trouble, be it from bullying in class to actual train molestations. This entire mindset in general is why Japan has a high suicide rate, the workforce is just a tip of the iceberg to that problem. This all happens because people that makes themselves stand out rather than standing in line is often seen the more problematic figure, and standing up to bullies is the best way to stand out. Some more dumber examples of this in action is again, in schools. Let's say you happen to be mixed and have brown hair because of it... You would be in violation of the numerous standard dress codes the school enforce for dying your hair. Nevermind that brown is your natural hair color, if you don't dye that shit to black to match every other students in school, you'll be in trouble for dying your hair. The schools are not very flexible with their rules, and even if they are they aren't willing to bend on this particular issue because in their minds: They are not the one causing problems. You are, for having the gulls to be born with brown hair and not black like everyone else. @@sirapple589 The instance Kyo brings up is based off of an actual incident in Japan where a schoolgirl was expelled because she wouldn't dye her hair black; her natural color being brown. She was accused of dying her hair brown, which was in violation of the school's dress code, and the teachers who purportedly examined her roots insist that she was lying (even though this clearly wasn't the case). It's pretty much exactly what Kyo described - it didn't matter that the teachers were too prideful to admit that they were wrong, what mattered is that a teenage student spoke out against her teachers. She sued the school over it, even, and despite the overwhelming evidence in her favor, she still largely lost the case as the judge sided with the school in every regard except for her expulsion, and that was only because the school did not go through any channels for the expulsion in the first place.

And it's not because of pachinko (they actually downsizing pachinko and arcade division because of COVID), it's because several of their games (Momotetsu, Powepro, E-basebal, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc) sells juggernaut in japan. Konami is currently third biggest video games publisher in Japan only behind Nintendo and Capcom. Meanwhile Konami were bleeding tons of money's during Kojima era as Konami Vice President. It's actually great decision for konami to kicked out Kojima and stop making AAA and instead focus on mid budget games tailored for Japanese people. And let's be frank Death Stranding is not a great game. Also Konami still making new games for international audience like Getsufumaden and Crimesight. TLDR: Konami maybe sucks but not because what you said in this video, they just stop making video games that you cared about and focus on games for Japanese Audience

He then left to make the Bloodstained series, one of the most successful kickstarters and a game that both sold and reviewed super well (because believe it or not, good games usually are successful). In that time there’s been like 4 Castlevania games, one of which was a 3D God of War style game in 2014, one of which was a mobile game, three of which are collections of older games (which granted are good, but that’s because they were mostly good to begin with), and now NFTs. Truly, Konami knows what it’s doing by not making actual games anymore and having everyone who did make games leave over this fact.

I was a huge Konami fan when I was younger, my two favorite franchises at the time and still are Metal Gear and Castlevania. I grew up with these game and it just saddens me that I will never be able to see these games come back to life for newer audiences. I even Pre-Ordered Metal Gear: Survive.

Platinum Games, Kojima’s team, or Nintendo should own all of Koonami’s assets, but Koonami itself should absolutely go bankrupt, and never make anything ever again ever.

I'd nominate Embracer, but, well, I haven't heard much from them ever since they bought most of Squeenix's IP collection. Probably. Game dev takes time and tends to happen behind closed doors.

Another company falling to the delusion of “money over quality”. Seriously, how can companies be so awful to their workers AND (as a result) their fans?

Kojima doesn't want to work on Metal Gear anymore and hasn't for a while, but I can assure that giving him ownership of the IP would still be a good move. It would 100 percent ensure that we get a Metal Gear Rising 2, and if he doesn't work on it, it'll still be him who DECIDES who gets to work on it

At this point they should just sell their IP's to Sony or Microsoft. At least that way they'll actually get used.

I want to add that in Konami's rhythm games around 2013-15, musicians who worked in-house at Konami also had their names scrubbed from songs to be replaced with a generic "BEMANI Sound Team". Every musician who worked with Konami beyond playable songs had their name changed to this. It's a miracle this change was later reverted but the fact that this made it to the public eye says everything

They also should give the fox engine back to Kojima because, you know… HE DEVELOPED it. There’s countless theory’s of P.T with Lisa in regards to the fox engine. It’s a fantastic engine and doesn’t get used well by Konami

Long story short, Konami company is evil, and should just disappear at this point, and those who control it should not be able to have any rights to make new company's and something like that. Also typical Japan, doesn't care about human rights and is over the top.

10 steps on how to improve Konami: Step 1. Give all IPs away Step 2. Destroy Konami There are no more steps. I think those changes are important enough to take up 5 steps.

Konami itself never was great, they just happened to employ some geniuses that managed to publish great games even though they had many stones set in their way. We had a wrong perception of the country even back in the day.

On the topic of Capcom in the comments, do people remember when Capcom was on the verge of bankruptcy? Like back in 2013 or so they were doing horribly. But nowadays they are doing great. It's insane how they went from hitting rock bottom to one of the highest companies atm. That's a redemption story right there.
Should the better player ALWAYS win?
