I really like that Master Duel can be kind of like a small test area for Konami to start slowly taking things off the ban list to see how it impacts the meta. I love that we're slowly getting lots of older archetypes that have been power crept enough to not need the ban list. I am totally a sane person that can be trusted with more Dragonhawks Konami I promise.

People in charge of MD and OCG banlists definitely look at each other's notes, as card changes in one quickly got adopted in the other. MD had Quik Fix to 2 before OCG did, and Harp Horror was lifted in OCG before MD. TCG however seems to be doing its own thing, for now.

Compared that to the TCG where Konami of America although a subsidiary has a different set of people managing the game and a very different mentality towards the card game balance.

The advantage of a digital card game is that they have more flexibility with the banlist, you simply give extra caps when dismounting what takes hits and solved. The value of a card in Master Duel is not lost, it is simply transformed into another card.

I really like the constant minor adjustments, they also serve as a reminder that other decks exist to help convince people to try out new tricks and strategies. P.U.N.K. is at "full power" now so it's fully able to be used in some cool engine styles, with Orcust being one of the ones I've been more curious to see in action. Giving Runick a bunch of minor hits instead of just sniping Fountain outright(which probably should have gone to 2 anyway though) helps push people away from the pure Stun builds and into some actual fun engine setups like the current popular Spright Synchro and Striker variants.

A huge advantage Master Duel has over TCG and OCG is that Konami has both knowledge about how the cards affected the real-life formats respectively, but also has access to a lot of realtime data on how people build their decks as well as how those decks perform. With the monthly adjustments they pinpoint the problem decks and finetune cards around the actual problem cards to make them less of an issue. I like the way they handled Rhongo, for example. Rhongo is still playable, but with Gossip Shadow banned, it's usually not feasable to get a high material Rhongo out consistently to carry you. Also, in best of one, consistency hits matter a lot. Many Tri-Brigade variants are very shaky in terms of consistency, and thus winrate, just thanks to Fraktall and Tenki being at 2, but Konami generally manages to keep an archetype playable and able to compete with most other rogue strategies. This is also the most reasonable approach in terms of marketing and sales. In the TCG, it's natural to let players cash into a deck and have that deck dominate for a few months, just to kill it off and sell new product to repeat the cycle. In a game like Master Duel, you'd rather want to expand your playerbase as much as possible, so killing an archetype isn't an option in the first place.

I believe that's the proper way to keep interest too. The TCG makes a big mistake of using players' current feelings as the main player input for banlists, but if you hit consistency without making a deck completely unplayable you retain the players who just play a deck because they like it (which is the majority of the players as you can see by how many deck/archetype-specific, dedicated groups exist on social media, and the top competitive players will still buy the best decks each format anyway. The cards that specifically make things unfunny are most of the cases generic cards that aren't necessary to make any deck work, they just generate unfair advantage consistently and thus see a lot of representation.

Probably Flashing fire is worst than slumber because it's a little bit more specific to activate the non-summon effect and even then "not every deck need to special summon" and in Runick stun sometimes it's more valuable to block attacks since the floodgates take care of the rest. I say this after winning a duel thanks to 3 Flashing fire in rotation. P.S. thanks for all the Spright deck list you posted on YT, I really enjoy the deck and it let me get Diamond1 on the 1st account

Amano-Iwato, Pot of Duality, Pot of Prosperity, Card of Demise... Master Duel is hitting all of the cards SURROUNDING the floodgates, when they should just hit the floodgates themselves and be done with it. We have learned, from EXTENSIVE data and historical research, that making floodgates harder to get to does not automatically mean that they are not as strong and usually overpowered. Limit Amano is a good way to give more chance for counter play. Usually you just do nothing until draw the out when facing Runick. When Amano at 3, they can easily get Amano and deal damage to you. But with 1 Amano, maybe counter play and do nothing will more effective because Runick don't have easy access to deal damage.

In MD, the only time a massive banlist is after duelist cup event. All massive hit are come after duelist cup event, that only time their higher change to hits UR card. Beside when hit little every month, it will eventually kill that deck and that what happen to Eldlich when their lost floodgate card every month, and now eldlich is just rogue deck no more top meta deck in MD.

I much prefer monthly regular banlists with small adjustments, I would much prefer this if our game was like OCG, cards are so cheap there. I've just come from Japan and Fenrir 300 yen, accesscode talker 90 yen, maxx c collectors rare 1995 yen. The game should be like this.

Runnick wasn't hurt at all..I mean not even scratched. The only players happy about this are the runnick players who were worrying they would make the deck a tiny bit fair. In a best of one format, decks like runnick can't exist at such a high power. The banlist did absolutely 0,nada,nothing to the deck. I mean it's so bad you can't even notice the difference

This banlist was badly needed. Runick Spright is the best deck by far. It’s most of the ladder. And it’s a “go first/resolve max c or lose” mirror. Please ban gryphon rider so decks can use adventure engine to bounce with dracoback going second.

this is the most ocg banlist in all of banlisting. just put everything to 2 surely if it is bad being at 2 fixes everything. all they needed to do is hit fountain to 1 and the problem would be solved. pure runic loses to cosmic cyclone runic hybrids actually try to win the game so they don't care. at least if they literally put every runic card outside of fountain to 2 that would make pure runic lose 20% of the deck where mixed version just put in more copies of the less good runic cards.

All I want from master duel is adding a side deck system to ranked. If side deck exists in master duel, the second turn player will have the chance to make plays. I really dislike the way Konami hitting cards to the MD banlist and implement it to the paper game, especially on what they did at YCSJ because the side deck format was disregarded.

The biggest problem with MasterDuel’s banlist is that we still regularly have to deal with the specters and phantoms of the OCG’s weird banlist. Like why is maxx c still legal, why is nadir’s servant at 1, why is rhongo a legal card in any format? They can give us frequent small updates, but it makes so many people frustrated because MasterDuel has so many glaring issues with things that are legal in the TCG/OCG, but pushed to absurdly annoying levels in a best of one format. Like even numeron could be considered problematic and worth hitting because of how unfun it is in the game.

Rhongo isn't used anyway, pulling off the combo in today's meta is close to impossible so there's no reason they would hit him. Maxx "c" is an OP old card like "change of heart", "ancient fairy dragon" or "that grass looks greener" that Konami unbanned in master duel to test how strong and meta defining they actually are. Maxx "c" appears to be very popular due to how good and fitting it is for every deck but even Konami realised it doesn't instantly win you games.

@@ybd This is just straight up not true, Maxx C resolving is an instant win against 99% of deck. At worst it trades one for one with a powerful piece of negation like Ash, or it resolves and your opponent just skips turn, or it resolves and you only draw one making it upstart Goblin, and if you draw 2 or more it’s pot of greed but keeps getting better. Ancient fairy dragon was given an errata so it could come off the banlist, and is a card that’s only good in a certain few decks that aren’t going to be meta, change of heart is genuinely a worse card than half the board breakers you could put in your deck, raigeki gets rid of more monsters, lightning storm can be feather duster as well, droplet can turn off many monsters at once, dark ruler, ultimate slayer, evenly, etc. And grass looks greener literally just got hit down to 2 on the banlist meaning they see some problem with it, even though it’s not really that good in the current meta and has been meta exactly 0 times, but it is extremely powerful in the decks that can even use it, which isn’t many, while maxx c is a generic staple you can easily put in every deck. Rhongo is a floodgate that literally reads “your opponent cannot play the game”, it’s anti fun who cares how viable it is, you can literally summon it with one spell card right now at the cost of ruining your extra deck, but you’re playing stun anyways so not like it matters. “Maxx c appears very popular” it’s a tier 0 card, it’s in almost every single deck.

I have a theory that Kitkallos is getting an errata soon. Reason is that there's no other way to get it onto Master Duel without causing a Tier 0 format. Possibly by changing "You can only use each effect once per turn" to "You can only use one effect per turn, and only once that turn". That way you have to choose whether you want to use the search effect, the revival effect, or the mill 5 effect.
