@39:30 "PK" was a term that existed and was popular before UO... and I'm not talking about MUDs. The original Diablo was released 1 year prior to UO and "PK" was a very prominent term on Battle.Net. I know, I was there.. meaning it must've been in people's lexicon even before that.... so him taking credit for the term seems rather ludicrous, which makes me question his claim on the rest of the terms he's supposedly responsible for. A good speech, though. #8 hits hard even though it doesn't really matter if it's true or not. It's nice to think about.

As early as 1992, the word "Player Killing" was used to describe a MUD called Genocide-- being the first MUD of it's kind to be focused solely on player vs player fighting and killing. That is the earliest example I could find, there are probably more. But that is the earliest I think.. It may have even been used in 80's D&D and tabletop games.. All the slang we see today though I would say both UO and Battle.Net are responsible for it.. UO set the standard for MMO's but on both battle.net and in UO we put our ICQ number in our profiles..

If you listen to what he's saying its more along the lines of a keep-it-all-in-perspective message, which is completely true, and very important for young developers to hear. He's entirely correct there.
