@@cioccolateriaveneziana ??? When did the op say that a comedian shouldn't gauge their audience? The op's comment was in regard to the host saying that they found it "troubling" because they (the host) could somehow "sense" (mind read) that the audience were racist, simply because the audience laughed at racist jokes. Sorry, but that isn't comparable to the way a comedian gauges an audience. Everyone in the audience of "The Closer" laughed at Dave Chappelle's critique of transgenderism, so...by the hosts logic, that means the audience all came to watch him because they are transphobic? He made the mistake of admitting that he went to a Sadowitz gig and, by implication, enjoyed it. So in order to save face, he trotted out the same sort of line of thought they used against Al Murray/Pub Landlord, that although he understood the irony, the rest of the audience is just too thick and therefore a bunch of bigots. It’s a shitty middle-class leftie thing to do, something that Orwell documented, the absolute disdain the middle classes have for the working class even when they profess to care. Here we had a leftie, middle-class journalist who cannot square his enjoyment of Sadowitz with the outrage he was supposed to be feeling, and it brought out his class bigotry.

That was 100% shameless gaslighting by the presenter. Everybody should rejected the presenter's perspective- just like Konstantin did. HOW can he assume and make assumptions on an entire room of people; how can he know each and every person's motives as to why they came to the show that night? How can he declare them all closeted racists? And most importantly, did he not laugh at any of these racist jokes? How do we know? We're just supposed to shut up and take his word for it?
