I think it's really interesting how both of you are trying to step beyond your own bias and actually listen to one another... but then it turns out to be a real struggle because you both so much want the other person to see your point. I agree with both of you. As it stands, the almost mythical status of trans individuals is making it nearly impossible to criticise their place in society, so there I agree with you. And I agree with Neil that it is now upon us all to solve these problems moving forward, by leveling the playing field altogether. Maybe in fifty years we will look back at this and think it's all just as silly as the boys and girls entrance to the school. New solutions will be found. If you transition to another sex you are a trans person in a separate class from man and woman if there are actually so many of them it won’t be a waste of time and money to accommodate them in their own spaces/sport/shortlists. That’s considerate, and if it’s a joke, it is funny. The key thing to remember is that being an expert in a field it does not mean that one is naturally right. Because someone is well educated does not mean that they are knowledgeable on the subject. The truth is, Tyson’s arguments, about many things, are suspect. It’s the quality of the argument, not the merit or résumé of a person. Good luck with your astrophysicist endeavors.

I care how you can prove voyeurism and exhibitionism - known sexual crimes committed overwhelming against women - if you have locker rooms, spas, and other spaces where anyone can 'self identify' as a woman and enter. Re separate boys and girls entrances to schools: young boys tend to be rowdy and push when entering or leaving the school building; young girls tend to be less aggressive and therefore at risk of being overwhelmed and even injured (unintentionally) by the boys. Yep. NGT's intellectual mediocrity never ceases to amaze me. NGT is conflating gender and biological sex when these are two very different things. There are some rare chromosomal anomalies, but for the most part (99.995%), biological sex is binary: male XY and female XX. Changing external genitalia via surgery doesn't change this. A female's fertility cycle, physiology and biochemistry is very complex. Yes, gender is more fluid, and yes that's many associations many of which are cultural. But still gender and biological sex are two very different things.

One male doctor thought the nuns could help,and they did,in less than one month all the babies were eating and getting better with the same medical treatment as before.After that trial, mothers were allowed and prompt to stay in hospital with their children,if they had children at home the nuns would help in the hospital. You don't feel the same in front of a woman and it's not just a feeling... you don't feel the same in front of a man and it's not just a feeling,.It has consequences in your life and everyone else. When you recognize the game of defining and redefining of the terms gender and sex that transgender advocates play, the whole thing collapses like a house of cards. Take the idea of "sex assigned at birth". This is a clear equivocation of sex and gender. The doctor in no way, shape, or form is making any sort of cultural statement or expressing any cultural bias by observing that some children are male and others female. A doctor makes this determination in the same way that one identifies the sex of a wild animal. The doctor is simply making an accurate observation. Further, the "assigned" word in the phrase suggests that one can change sex and obviously that is nonsense, too. This is but one example and there are many.

Besides sports, bathrooms and Parliament there is also: DV/SA centers, group therapy, AA or sensitive support groups, any type of lesbian group, scholarships, changing rooms, jails, prison, rehab, inpatient, hospital settings, birthing situations, dating apps, friendship apps, sororities, living situations, group homes, it messes up crime statistics, any kind of data collection, medical studies, it clogs up services meant just for women. Yes, it's extremely troubling. There are an increasing number of cases of violent sexual assaults from males who only identify as women in prison. Or preexisting transwomen convicted of sexual assault and violence against women who are still put in women's prisons. Whether or not this is "easy to solve" according to some internet armchair theorist is another matter that in no way calls into question the reality of the terrible harms actively and increasingly being done in women's prisons today.

It's not about rights, the activist types want special privileges. Crossdressing, taking cross-sex hormones or believing yourself to be the opposite sex doesn't actually make you something you're not. Women and men aren't "just social constructs" or words, they're a reality. The words point to the essence and to a truth about both biology and experience, or the potential experience of each. The physical differences are obvious, but the blind spot is the experience aspect of things. This aspect transcends time, geography, and culture. You see, only a biological female/woman can have certain experiences or potentially have them and the same goes for the biological male/man. Likewise there are lots of other examples that weren't brought up in this, such as young girls in toilets dealing with their periods in schools which have switched to gender-neutral spaces. Also, there are other female-only spaces like women's shelters and prisons where vulnerable women are.

How would Neils solution work exactly considering almost all men have significant advantages over women? I think his argument is based in a utopian fantasy he's made up where biological differences between women and men are nowhere near as significate as they actually are in reality. Look at female sport for instance, the top females cant compete against the guys that aren't even in the top 100. Look at what happened with Lia Thomas. I feel he came to his conclusion to accommodate political beliefs when it should be the other way around.

Before proposing such radical changes, solutions should already be there, for the problems that these changes will cause. Let's say the problem with the bathrooms. If a bathroom is full of people of both sexes, some go to the right, others to the left, and we have a comun room for washing the hands, it seems like there is no problem. But if it is a place like a cinema, where I have often been alone and a man is washing his hands, I will panic and no enter, because he might go into the women's compartment without any problem. Is that so difficult to understand?
