Back when I first got into kpop, there was a group called "Piggy Dolls" that where chubby and overweight girls. They were fat shamed to no end by online nets... The company also made their weights the entire existence of the group. Everything was about their weight and how they were plus sized. While I loved the representation of these cute women in Kpop, the company didn't want to make their concept anything else except for how chubby they were. They even lost a combined total of 115 LBS for their next comeback, which stood against everything that the group was for. Then, ALL of the members were replaced with thinner ones that fit the beauty standard. It crushed me. I loved those girls and they were tossed away so easily by the company for thinner ones. I wish to have a group that's chubby or plus sized but makes the same music as ITZY or TWICE. Being plus sized myself, I want people to not think about my weight but look at my personality or other characteristics that make me who I am. There could be a perfectly healthy idol who's not within the beauty standard like NMIXX's Jiwoo or Mamamoo's Hwasa and some fans would cause massive uproar with malicious comments even begging or demanding the company make them loose weight. When an idol does loose weight it flips, the uproar and demand is for them is to gain weight along with how dare the company mistreate them. Literally cannot please certain fans, I'd much rather a healthy idol especially considering how busy their schedules are and the fact that I don't want them getting sick or worse passing away. 🙃 An additional scare factor is there could be TONS more idols still doing these extremely unhealthy diets, yet we don't or won't ever know about it.

The fact that a group of adults came together and made a young girl starve herself for her career is just insane. Would you rather have your idol at a perfectly fine weight or your idol dead? JYPE what were you thinking?!

Unfortunately, beauty standards is a huge huge deal in south korea. Even if the company wanted their idol to be healthy, when the idols doesnt meet beauty standards, they will be mocked, critisice, hated, by the citizens. Its a toxic culture but if theres someone to blame its their beauty-obssesed-crazy citizens.

I understand how idols must go through a diet cause their body is part of their job, but honestly it went too far. Being at a normal weight/ Being healthy (which is a different weight for everyone) is enough. No need to be "perfect". I honestly think it creates such unrealistic standarts especially for women. Also these people are so active like imagine not eating and exercising nonstop. So scary. I just hope this diet thing will stop.

I can't understand why you saying that IU's diet is easily THE MOST DANGEROUS DIET ( 3:18) as she ate every day 3 times a day (1 apple for breakfast, 2 sweet potatoes for lunch and 1 protein drink for dinner) while in comparison MOMO didn't eat anything at all (1 ice cube per day is nothing) + gym for 10 days, Xiumin drinks only coffee, Dasom eats only 1 meal per day and it's only cucumbers + exercising, T.O.P. only drinks water and eats jelly made of red beans + gym, Mina drinks only 2 bottles of sparkling water a day, Jimin didn't eat anything at all, only 1 meal per 10 days!

I think in momo's case they were only focusing on the weight which is totally stupid because momo is toned and was even then very fit. If they were to truly like (idols/bias) I believe they should expect them for who they are as a person, not what their bodies, because if the same thing that idols went through, are portrayed on them, they would realize how uneasy it is and how badly it can destroy their mental and physical health.

I haven't seen this type of diet with idols, but I did this myself for "Weight Control". I did the two piece of chocolate diet, straight forward as it says. One small piece of dark chocolate for breakfast and one for dinner, nothing else besides water. It got so bad that I went in to the ICU for vitamin and mineral distress, so please people... don't follow these diets WITHOUT a professional, cause it can be very, VERY dangerous.

Momo's scares me the most. The fact that she had to mention the ice cube is more worrying than if she had just said she was eating nothing, because ice isn't food... it's water. You should never go without water for more than 12 hours because it is crazy dangerous. To give you some idea of how dangerous: Pro-Anorexia groups are groups of girls and women who will starve themselves, make themselves sick, and abuse drugs to get thin, but dry fasting is the one thing they will absolutely refuse to do or let anyone else do. Dehydration kills you in DAYS. Most people would be dead three times over if they didn't drink water for 10 days, even if they weren't going to the gym and "spitting" all the time.
@LuluBeLulu Жыл бұрын
Considering she had to lose 15lbs in a week, she was probably concerned about water weight. You wont gain fat by drinking water, but you can gain normal, healthy water weight. MMA fighters will often send their kidneys into hydrolysis to lose a ton of water fast so they can make their weight class for weigh ins. It's insane. Body builders also stop drinking water before a competition to give more muscle definition. Its insane

TW ED: i was on a weight loss journey 2 years ago and got to a specific number which made me get too excited and cocky. long story short i came across the IU diet and i had no idea who she was or her story, i just saw her as another K-pop celebrity who has a diet (im dumb i know) so i blindedly followed it and soon after i started forming an ED and that lead me to bulimia.. i looked into IU's story later and found out she had bulimia as well i believe (im not a kpop fan sorry if im mixing things up) i went through what she did from the diet. I just find it interesting because i was clueless about EDs and stuff like that. Kpop diets are dangerous. I mean the weight loss ones of course not the healthy ones. Nearly lost my life 💀

This is disgusting what is happening in Sth Korea regarding celebrity weight loss for employment I've been very vocal on the measures that Lee Da Nee regularly undertakes and her skeletal frame in the Series "Island" which was so bad I worried that the younger audience would look to her as a model for how they should look. Lee admits she will eat next to nothing to ensure that her weight stays under 50kgs. At 1.76m tall her weight at 50kgs is dangerously under the healthy BMI for her height. Authorities and the industry have NOT protected these artists from abuse and neglect, it is shameful and one that Sth Korea must work on. If an artist/celebrity is under weight they should not be allowed to work until they are healthy, this is called a 'Duty of Care' which should be mandatory.

I really do wish that there was no beauty standards/dieting needs. To be honest in the kpop industry I feel they need to normalize different body weights and that not every idol will be their ideal skinny person. It really makes me upset when I see idols talking about diets. Recently skz Felix went in a diet for stays but I felt upset because I don’t think it was necessary. He was skinny b4 and with the diet he got even skinner. His arms were kinda twig like. And today Chan was live and he started talking about coming back from jeju and him noticing he gained some fat. But to be honest I didnt see any added weight to him anywhere. Obviously diets are good sometimes but they shouldn’t be taken that seriously or they could choose a safer route. Just my thoughts ❤️

The problem with all these weight “goals” were they don’t care about muscle mass. Just like momo, she’s a dancer so she has quite a lot of muscle but they needed her to lose 7kg, honestly she just needed to stop exercising and lose all her muscle mass to reach the weight “goal”, so what does the company expect to achieve with these “goals”?

As long as your healthy you don’t need to lose or gain weight. There human too. I hope in the future, things change and people start accepting all body sizes and looks. And this is not even the only thing that’s bad in the kpop industry (haters that go to far, over obsessive “fans” ect.) I couldn't find more informations, but Taemin once talked about an incident where all he was allowed to eat were a few blueberries and Key ate them, which got him very upset, which is understandable if it's the only food you're allowed to eat. He often talks about his weight. While doing promotions with SuperM they went out eating and while everyone was eating he refused to do so. Kai (if I remember correctly) had to convince him to eat something as well, which he did eventually and you could immediately see an improvement in Taemin's mood. Even the seemingly most chilled celebrities struggle with the spotlight, that's why it's a good thing when they take a break here and there and finally focus on themselves.

I’m glad some people see these “diets” for what they are, but I think it’s harmful to continue referring to them as diets. (CW: mentions of disordered eating) Even a restrictive diet should be giving you the energy you need to survive and those are not recommended for long periods. These are more extreme than restrictive eating or fasting, and a lot of people are vulnerable to this idea that being skinny is the ideal. When they hear about an extreme diet, they aren’t put off immediately even with warnings of it being dangerous, because the term “diet” makes it seem like a viable method for weight loss. I would know, I was in a bad place mentally at the time everyone was doing “The Jimin diet” online, and I had never had a restrictive eating disorder in the past. I thought because other people were doing it, and because it was credited by most as an actual diet, that it must be okay to do. I think deep down in my heart I knew something wasn’t quite right, but I didn’t care enough to really dig into that and decided to try it out anyway. I didn’t end up sticking to it for ten days, but that made me try again, and again, and again, when I got it wrong. This led me to having a bad relationship with food and my body which I didn’t really have before. I thought of food as something to be earned, and exercise or starvation as a sort of punishment to my body for not being good enough. This has taken years to recover from, even if I never went quite as extreme as other people have. I understand this is a trendy topic and that’s partially why there are so many videos about it, but a lot of young people follow Kpop idols and a lot of people who are vulnerable to this sort of language. Referring to these abusive methods encouraged by Korean entertainment companies as diets, even in a video about how horrible and unhealthy they are, is harmful to young viewers, people who have struggled under these extreme weight loss methods, and people who are vulnerable to brutal methods such as people with bad body image or mental illness.

In my opinion, I think they need to stop publicizing these kinds of diets as there are so many young kids watching and idolizing these idols and they might end up following these kinds of diets. This causes younger generations to not love their own body and causes insecurities. 😥😥😥
@pearinsomnia91882 жыл бұрын
They’ve stopped publicizing them, which is why fans now claim their faves are “naturally skinny” and insult anyone who is concerned (e.g., Somi’s 15.7 BMI), which is a shame because so many people call severely underweight idols “body goals” because they are naive enough to believe it was achieved in a healthy way.
