As an old time installer Ill stick with my Orcon cool top at 2.5 temp with orcon K50 even on my wool installs . I dont see a lot of people using the Cool Glide systems in Colorado And dont seen many people using that noisy seamer down !! JMO

Some awesome information in these comments. The one and only thing that has stopped me from taking the plunge is the cost of tape. Premium hot melt tape is $12.75 where I’m at and kool glide tape is $21.50. Most of my work is through a store so I end up footing the bill. If a majority of my work was direct pay, where I could charge the client for the tape, I would’ve been using this system years ago.

Another good mention is low, medium and high are all the same temperature. It’s just the duration of the RF frequency. Unlike the traditional seam iron where the higher the dial setting the higher the temperature.

Yes sir, the board that comes with the iron is Teflon so therefore it is able to just curl right up out of the doorway once the same is complete.

So I've had one since they first made it. I used to use it ALL the time. Then they changed the tape years ago to a lower heat melt and all my seams started melting in the sun or near a heater or even if the heat in the house was turned on too high. They would hold great while I was there and I power strech with poles so I know it was solid. Then if sun or heat would even get close, the tape would melt. I'd come back to the job and the tape was still sticky and melting. Did they fix this problem? When I called the company about it they said it must be where I live.... I live in a area that does not get above 85° so it's not like Arizona 120° sun round here.

@@FloorsbySouthernboys It happened to a fair amount of people unfortunately. I have only used it once in the last 5 years to do seam and it failed weeks after the install. "Because they kept thier heat too high". It started right after they "improved" the tape to be a lower melt temperature. Maybe I'll dust it off and give it a go.... I loved it when it worked

Not every time, the trick is not to drag your same weight against the grain, if you are working the opposite direction of the carpet pile it is important to pick up your way and place it flat down without scooting it

I have a cool glide that i use for specialty seams... when and how do you decide when to use high, medium and low stetting? I never use high and have over cooked a number of seams using medium. how do you decide which setting to use?

Low is for seaming over pad, med is for seaming on wood, and high is for seaming on cement

@@shawnmoore5621 Just for clarification, Low is for seaming over pad, Im assuming any carpet installed over pad, low is sufficient. For the other two are you suggesting a situation where you seaming directly on wood or concrete? And how does the sub-straight effect the function of the cool glide? My understanding was that the coolglide is emitting microwave/radiowaves which are reflected back by the foil in the tape thereby heating the glue. Is this an accurate understanding? If the waves are reflected back they arent even making it to the substaight. I always thought that the low,med, high settings were for thickness/density of the material the waves are traveling through, do I have this wrong? Im not trying to be contentious, just genuinely curious , especially if Ive been misunderstanding the function of this iron for years. thank you

@@trucsivad777 all's the low, med and high differ from each other is the amount of time the setting runs. Pad retains heat which is why you run it on low. Over wood or plastic run on med and if seaming cpt over cement with no pad or anchoring wood up to 3/4" thick run on high

Hey Ruben do you know why sometimes the cool glide doesn't want to burn the tape? I press the start green bottom and turns on for a second and it turns off

Check if the T light is on. If it is it will only be on for a real short time. T is for tacking the start of your seam and end of seam. After tacking the seam, push the T button to turn off, so only Low, Medium, or High light is on. Until the end of seam, then turn on T light again. And when you use T setting, turn Kool Glide perpendicular to the seam.

I only use the koolglide for repairs, the tape is expensive! I've used hot melt since 2004, and for me it's just way faster too use hot melt

I think most problems people have with Kool Glide is because of a lack of training on how to operate it, and not understanding how it works. Kool Glide in combination with Seamer Down is the way to go, no doubt.

Are you using the blue plastic seam tape guide ? You need the tape to be centered under the iron. Only time I've ever had it burn tape is when it is not.

my microwave makes my EMF meter go off the charts . With cell phone is goes way up.and way down unless im in a call. Kool glide consistently very low very low . I'm in no way a expert on all these harmful things. I only tell you this out of interest sake as it was a concern for me. I'd be more concerned about your testicles, prostate etc. things prone to cancer being closer than your face. The guy selling Kool glide to our shop years ago stated they give of way way way less waves then a cell phone. my meter is 250.00 so it fairly decent and according to it he was not telling lies. I understand your concern though I tend to worry about stuff like that too.
