My experience and thoughts on this for others. First, here we are 3 years later and your video is still helping poor fools like me! I'm changing the injectors and glow plugs in my 1993 F350 7.3L IDI. I've owned it for 30 years. It came without a turbo (the last year they didn't) but I put a Banks Sidewinder turbo system on it years ago. Thank God, what a difference! Got the first 3 driver-side injectors out pretty easy and then got to the rear driver-side injector, you know the one in the very back and worst place to work, and BAMMM! I couldn't get it loose enough to spin out of the galley without giving it everything I had with 1/2" breaker bar, long extension with a swivel. Even when using all my strength laying on top of the engine, it barely moved. I was waiting for SNAP! and the thing to break off on the head. Nothing every goes easy for me so this was no surprise, but until I saw your video, I had no idea others had problems with these injectors. The video helped me get a little more comfortable so I kept turning the injector with my ratchet only to move it an 1/8 of a turn each time Adding another half a can of WD40 wasn't helping either. I finally resigned to the fact that I needed to bring in the big guns and use my Dewalt 1/2" drive 20-Volt impact to work it back and forth to break it loose. After constantly dumping WD-40 on the top threads and working the threads in and out of the head, I finally got the the top half of the injector out. My joy was soon dashed when panic set it because I thought I had broke-off the lower half of the injector in the head. This is where your video saved my ass and my sanity! THANK YOU! I ground off the top head threads of the old injector and reseated it into the lower half that was still seated in the head. Even after doing this and turning it, lubricating it, and turning it more, I could get it to spin but it was heavily binding on something (probably carbon) something fierce and there was no pulling it out. I tried prying it out by prying it up with crowbars but that only flattened the corners of the valve cover I was prying against. I filled the injector hole with WD-40 (because I didn't have anything else to try like Berryman B-9 Chem Dip that breaks down carbon) and let it sit for the next 10 hours while I slept having nightmares of the engine coming out to fix this bitch! The next morning I pulled the hood off and tried spinning the injector with my 1/2" ratchet but it was just as hard to spin as the day before. I figured I had little choice left so once again I returned to my trusty Dewalt 20v 1/2" drive impact and used it to turn the injector. Slowly but surely the injector started to spin faster and faster. The hammering of the impact and the WD-40 was doing a good job breaking down the carbon and getting the bottom half of the injector to break free. After about 2-3 minutes of spinning the injector with the impact and wiggling it finally came loose and even let me pull it free by hand! WHAT A RELIEF!!! I know this is a long reply but I wanted to send a huge thanks to @KoonTrucking for taking the time to post this video. I also wanted to share a lesson to your readers that I've learned during the 58 years I've been on this planet. Look up what you need to do before you begin so you know the trouble you may run into. If your luck is like mine, plan on the job taking 5-times longer than it takes someone else. Do your best to schedule work like this when you won't be in a hurry and can stop and take a break if you need to. NEVER say, "This should only take an hour" because it NEVER only takes and hour and never give up until you win. If something isn't working, try something else, but don't get in a rush and break stuff.. Take your time and use your head and you will prevail. Happy New Year 2024 ALL! Let hope it's better than last year!

Man this reply made my day! Glad the video helped you out and glad you were able to get a fix. I totally agree with you about looking up things to know what you will face before you have to face them. Great reply and i appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment. Hardly ever do people leave a comment if it helps them, they just move onto the next project. As a creator, it takes a lot of time to set up and film stuff when you are working on something (you obviously see how frustrating that job is) so to get a comment like this totally makes it worth it! Do you guy's still have a lot of these older trucks still coming for service? I'm in northern Va. and the rust up here isn't crazy bad but if you don't stay on top of it.. Well I'm sure you can finish that sentence. Several years ago I lost the back brakes in the old plow truck we had at work. It was during a pretty bad snow and ice storm around 2am.

What do you use to clean the hole? And do you put something to cover the hole to keep the carbon from getting into the cylinder? Or it doesnt matter and the engine will just eat it without a problem?
@KoonTrucking

I actually use a screw that will fit inside the brass/copper washer. Use a pick to clean all the carbon and then blow it out with an air blower. Pull the screw out and the copper washer comes with it, all nice and clean

In recent videos you keep talking about the crows feet with the 3/8 drive in the end so you can put an extension in it and use it as a wrench. Who makes them?
@KoonTrucking
@KoonTrucking 4 жыл бұрын
Snap On is the only company I know that has them and I think recently they even changed the design and may not offer the extension in the end. We use my set often with the small 1-2” extension and it makes for a super stubby wrench. Perfect for lines on injector pump

This didn’t work because u failed to mention the threads will be stripped after u remove the top threads meaning it’s ineffective.
@KoonTrucking
@KoonTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
No you ground off the top threads of the OLD injector so it doesn’t even thread into the head. The bottom threads will grab the tip on the inside of the broken injector to remove it. Works perfect and have done it many times. Obviously the broken injector is garbage and the injector you ground the top threads off will only be good for a puller from that point on but it works perfect.
@KoonTrucking
@KoonTrucking 2 жыл бұрын
You have to manually pull it out ? Not sure what you are even commenting about but if you leave top threads on it will just thread into the head like it is designed to do 🤦🏼‍♂️ the objective is to remove the injector tip that is still inside the head and you can pull it out like described in the video. We have done it this way numerous times because this happens due to the carbon build up in the head itself seizing the injector tip
