That's like the absolute opposite of the old "Game Over if Leader dies" shtick. Your allies don't suddenly give up: your death motivates them to try harder instead! x) I wonder if there's an RPG somewhere where that's an actual mechanic and not some oversight? If only for the silly in-game justification it would use x)

There is actually, unfortunately which exactly it is escapes me but I know I've encountered RPGs where party members can get boosts should the leader be dead.

Its not exact, but in Kingdom Hearts 2 if Sora dies during major boss battles there's a chance to instead of restart the fight: your control swaps over to Mickey who'll revive Sora after either dealing or taking enough damage.

(Also recall that, on the pit of 100 trials, you can return back on the initial pipe at the breakpoints, so you can(it's also rather included on the challenge I propose)finish 10 or 20 floors or etc. and go back to the start, and come back until you can finish more 10 floors than before.)
