I started watching your videos 2 years ago when I couldn't draw anything! Your videos mean so much to me. Your advice to 'just draw what you see and embrace the wonkiness' gave me the confidence to draw. You are a wonderful teacher!

Have you read Koosje’s book “ Life is Better When You Draw It”. It is psychologically very insightful ….I think you would love it . 🤗 Hope you don’t mind me recommending it to you……but as a fan of Koosje’s style of art work, I think you would like it.

That was cool. A good demonstration of a quick 10-minute sketch. I would have obsessed over the path which was not painted correctly, but at the end, it looked like part of it was shaded, so it totally worked. So nice to see that you don't obsesses over the details, and trust the process.

If we keep obsessing about mistakes we make, the drawing might be less enjoyable. Embrace the wonkiness!

Bless you my dear I rarely get out of my tiny village, but a friend came to stay and using your techniques, inspiration and encouragement... A brown biro , a watercolour set and some sea water, I painted a boat in the harbour and an elderly man readying his fish hooks...two scenes... whilst my friend braved the cooling Ionian sea. Here in your picture, you have captured that brilliant summer sunshine and deep welcome shade in a way that is the reality of greek summer, even though it wasn't so noticeable in the photo. And adding the little guy at the end was a perfect finish. Thankyou for he beautiful souvenir. I will try this technique too...outside as you did xx

I didn't know how the picture would come together at first, with just the blobs, and then the blunt Inktense pencil (and no apology for that, yay!) ... and suddenly it all came together like magic, and in only 10 minutes! I love the background noise of people walking and talking while you are drawing. It makes me feel like I am there, looking at the reference photo and your drawing process and the background sound. It's different from having video of café and people, more magical and evocative, somehow. Your videos are so inspiring, comforting, and freeing, Koosje! Thank you!

(But I did fill up a little sketchbook with quick pencil or pen sketches and then added watercolor later on the boat or bus or waiting in line or whatever. My first try of this kind. It was really helpful to see you make the decisions you did, especially in the beginning when you laid down those first watercolour washes. I could feel myself getting anxious and doubting how in the heck this drawing was going to work out. Obviously your years of practice must develop a certain intuition as to what to tackle first. Like someone else mentioned, I would have obsessed about the stone work on the path. I am still trying to embrace making "messy" art, not getting it "right" the first time, it is really silly how one can be so hard on oneself, even at 60, even if one is only doing this for oneself! Thank you for the ongoing inspiration. I think I am on the 4th round of reading your lovely book, and I still learn something new every time.
@KoosjeKoene2 ай бұрын
I’m so glad it was helpful. I may have indeed developed a certain intuition but most of the time I don’t know what I’m doing either. The intuition is more as in trusting the process. Of course I feel doubts about how it’ll work out (especially when filming it!), everybody has these feelings. But I do know that there’s a “messy middle” in each creative process, and that’s where you need to trust the process. More attention and some love makes all the difference. I’m excited you’re reading my book over and over again!
