Awesome job as usual! It really gives the house a more finished look. Now it just needs some flowers/shrubs around it and a big ol BBQ to top it off!

Awesome video as always Kordare. The floating deck is so awesome really ties the whole house together and it adds more square footage of outdoor living space. All in needs now is so outdoor furniture and a bbq and a fire pit to make it complete.

😍 Well done! That looks beautiful. Personally I don’t like decks but that’s just because of the weather in my area I would have to put a top over it and make it a nice porch. Which it looks like you could do later on. If you wanted. Still though it looks really good. Love the fact you thought of weeds coming up through the deck.

Looks awesome, for a future project. Using the same deck material maybe you can make a sidewalk from the end of the deck. Where the two steps are a sidewalk to the blacktop. Leaving about a 3 to 4 ft gap between the house in the sidewalk. Which could become a really long flower bed. That would be a pretty big project and definitely interesting to watch. God bless

hey, I roof ot here in western arizona, due to our heat the metal roof protection lastsabout 5 years, but since, your house is in, I'd assume texas maybe, idk, your coating might last 8 years, but, be sure to get the roofs coated that way they're protected from the weather, this house is insane, and I love it

When I priced out my deck, vs a concrete/brick patio, was about $6000 vs $8000. Did the concrete/brick patio instead.

Looks fantastic. The only thing I would change would be butting the facea boards up to one another via a 45 degree cut rather than having one overlap the other. A full stair surround would also look nice and make it so you legally don't need any sort of railing but I get that is more cost and more work
@Kordare
@Kordare 3 ай бұрын
Haha yeah someone else said that, I started to but didn't like the finish cut from my saw on the 45 deg angle.

Great job! You could have also done a picture frame border. I think it would've looked nicer and you definitely have the skills to do that

Looking at doing something simular to my backyard. Did you fasten the deck to the house?

No this is a floating deck so you don't want to attach it to a structure that is non-floating.

Is it really enough to set the concrete risers on just tamped down ground with gravel on it? Will it not sink into the ground with time?

Hey two quick questions. Why not add a board in two spots where the decking pieces meet to reduce the amount of seams you have in the deck. Secondly any thought about framing it so the deck boards could go the other way?
@Kordare
@Kordare 23 күн бұрын
Yeah I thought about doing that but decided against it because you need a lot more framing to support that setup. And you can certainly frame it to run deck boards the other way, just wasn't the look I wanted.

No, it's less than 2 ft to the ground in all areas so no need. Looks way cleaner this way too.

Nice simple deck. well made. The joists and bearers look to be sized correctly for the spans but did you do calcs for the footings' for a 1.5-2kPa load over that deck area? Looks to be half the number of footings for something that size especially bearing directly on soil. Wouldn't normally go over 2m/7ft for a bearer span. Not criticising, just asking the engineer.
@Kordare
@Kordare 3 ай бұрын
I didn't do any specific calcs, just rule of thumb and standard practice. They could be a bit undersized but I didn't go crazy since it's essentially ground level.
@DiscoFang
@DiscoFang 3 ай бұрын
@@Kordare Yeah that’s what I mean. Based on normal practice the number of footings supporting the square area of the deck seems light. That’s what it immediately seemed to me. But each of the concrete footings & blocks are decent sized. The actual numbers for a 12x44ft deck at 1.5kPa load specification (standard domestic in service load which is often raised to 2kPa for timber specs for wet-in-service like a deck) means a total of 17,000lbs shared by the footings, 8,500 on each side. With 8 post bases on one side they have ~1050lbs each; and the 5 concrete blocks need to bear ~1700lbs each. So that’s ALL down to the soil density. Which topsoil isn’t known for. At least if they slump you can easily fix it. Is frost heave a thing where you are? I’m not being that-guy, loved what you’re doing there since your first vid. This kind of stuff (design, building, landcape, renovation) is what I do for money and would do even if not getting paid. Love that you just give anything a go and approach it with thought, action and plain fun.
@Kordare
@Kordare 3 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm sure it won't stay perfectly level forever since it's floated on the ground. That's one reason I used those fasteners, so I can get under to adjust if necessary. I appreciate the input 👍
