I'm 16 and I have been considering rhinoplasty for so long because literally EVERY ONE of my stupid relatives makes it a point to point out my large nose. A lot of facial issue can be fixed during childhood. If you notice, jaw misalignment is one of the biggest issues showcased in this video, so in a way, braces are a 'form' of plastic surgery. Same with babies getting their head put into a mold to shape their skulls.

But even that is wrong. This field is termed "cosmetic dentistry," in which everything other than fixing misalignment (e.g. overbite, underbite) that is affecting your oral health falls under. The point to clarify with plastic surgery is that there are two "branches" of it: cosmetic ("aesthetic"), and reconstructive ("medical"). Getting orthodontic work to correctly align you teeth and jaws that were misaligned due to genetic inheritance is purely reconstructive, as it is increasing your health wellbeing. Other works such as fixing and maintaining teeth and jaw health is also reconstructive, but things like getting veneers when it provides you no current health benefits is what makes it a cosmetic surgery. This goes for things like teeth whitening, too, as it's purely for seen aesthetic appeal and purposes.

Teeth really affect the shape of one's face, so readjusting them in anyway, especially in a way that promotes forward growth, makes a huge difference. Imagine if this dude hadn't had literal chunks of metal shaping his mouth, he would have a recessed jaw and shitty lower third, resulting in a verrry different look. it's crazy because that first girl was actually really pretty- she had delicate features, despite the show calling them "masculine", and the way they made her style her hair (behind her ears, tied in a tight ponytail) made her forehead look larger than it is, which also lengthened her face. she didn't need plastic surgery or the intense skin lightening they gave her. she just needed a few minor hair changes, and, if she so wished, little touches of makeup (like longer eyeliner) to widen her face and make it appear slightly more evenly proportioned. the way they styled that poor girl, with unflattering clothing, hair, and what looks like zero makeup for television programs (which almost always involve heavy makeup to look nice on camera) made her unlike her natural beauty and distorted her and the audiences' perception of her

So basically a person's normal growth right..as we grow up we get out medical necessities done like braces. Then we grow our own sense of style. What colors,hairstyle suit us. A boy broke my nose in high school and when I told the principle about it she just said that he's just teasing me because he likes me and she gaslighted me and said that my nose doesn't look broken and that I'm just making things up. Now that I grew up, you can really see how broken my nose is because of the incident. Yeah, plastic surgery must be really expensive if even a principle lied to a little girl just so the school wouldn't have to pay for a broken nose.

You can still sue the school. Get a scan of your nose done that shows the broken bones, see an ENT specialist and get proof from him that your nose really is broken. Then you can sue for damages with a lawyer. How much time has passed doesn't matter.

What should of happened was the principle should of spoken to the boys mother and sorted it out that way. When I was studying abroad in South Korea it was a major shock to me, I knew that S.K had high instances of plastic surgery, but being there really put things into perspective as to why it was considered "necessary". Applying for a job, you have to attach a photo, for females especially if you didn't fit a "type" then you wouldn't get hired even if you have the education and experience for the position. I can't tell how many times I would be walking alone in Apgujeong minding my own business looking for a cute coffee shop to study in, only to be pulled aside by a "friendly representative" who said I should "fix" my mono-eye lids and get a better nose bridge. Ads for plastic surgery were plastered in the subway stations around Gangnam. The further you get away from the rich areas, the less prominent it is, but it still lingers... Also, your passport photos & gov't ID documents, all those photos were most of the time automatically photoshopped. I didn't realize this when I got mine taken for my foreigner's ID card and when I got the photos didn't even recognize myself, I panicked because these where supposed to be submitted to the government and I was used to it being illegal to photoshop gov't doc photos. I found that super distressing because those are your passport, your driver's license... it's something that is used as a person's identification. If you don't actually look like that piece of plastic that supposed to represent you, it warps your mindset.

Oh yeah they photoshopping ID photos threw me off the most. I went with two friends to get our school ID photos and the person working there very much photoshopped them. He removed my beauty marks, sharpened my jaw, and made it look like I was smiling more. My one of my friend who went kept asking for him to make her face smaller, to the point the photo was so different it didn’t really even look like her because he had made her jawline so much smaller. It was so shocking because these were official documents, not just some photo we took at a photo booth somewhere and he didn’t even ask me before making these changes! Beauty standards and the reality of beauty in Korea is far more than I think people prepare for even knowing they have high standards and plastic surgery rates.

I’m a Korean American, and personally I hate my birth country’s plastic surgery culture because it’s masking the bigger societal issues we face: superficiality and unhappiness. For context, I grew up in Korea until I was 12, then I moved to US. And we were never taught to appreciate and accept ourselves. EVERYTHING was about appearances, and it’s totally nauseating even thinking back. At 11-12 years old, my friends and I were comparing thickness of our thighs and calling ourselves fat when we « unfortunately » go through puberty. And if you were an early developer like myself, it was a constant battle amongst the older girls on whose weight is under 48 kg (105 lbs for my American friends, and I was already 170 cm, about 5’ 7’’ back then) on annual health check up days. My family in Korea of course all say, « if it makes you happy…. » But they never think about WHY you were unhappy to begin with? What conditioned them to think that way? I know it’s an issue everywhere, not only in Korea. But I’ve never seen it as overtly manifested as in Korea of all the places I’ve visited. Rhinoplasty is definitely one of the surgeries that pisses me off the most. It's almost never done for health reasons. Yes, it's perfectly reasonable to break the bones in your perfectly healthy nose and risk permanent breathing issues for life just because it was a little big or had a bump.

Yeah the nose may be perfectly healthy in many cases, but if it doesn't fit society's beauty standards then that person could face bullying or jabs at their appearance. It's hard to accept the way you look when people tell you negative things about your appearance. Feel like it's the same thing with makeup as well. The problem is that it's now being commercialised so companies are planting insecurities to increase the sale of surgeries which isn't good. I'd say a good precaution would be just having a mandatory counselling session where a trained psychologist tries to deal with the insecurity first and then approves them for the surgery. @@kaltlyn this! I know far too many people who have gotten that stomach surgery to lose weight and every one of them is still insecure about their weight. The surgery isn't going to fix what's in your head especially if you're just going to erase it and not address the issue.

I think we try hard not to judge people for undergoing procedures because we understand it's hard and we don't want to be mean but at the same time I still think it's just a pathetic attempt at not telling people off for things that maybe we should. It's not going anywhere because celebrities will keep getting enhanced to differentiate themselves further and further from commoners (unless for some random reason in a few years not having had PS becomes desirable) but I think that individually speaking being against PS is fair. Punishing people for not looking perfect according to standards that are not even real or realistic to begin with just to feed the industry like an ouroboros is insane.

To be honest, I'm kind of torn on this topic. At one hand I think it's everyone's personal choice what to do with their bodies, and at the other I feel like the normalization of plastic surgeries, through shows like these, sets even higher beauty standards (especially for actors or models) and teaches people that the go to way of dealing with body issues are surgeries... While if the society thinks your face looks wrong, it's really not your fault, it's society's fault. But then again, if you can change it and save yourself pain, should you not? Idk.

Yeah I've always felt a bit conflicted too. Generally I'm more for plastic surgery, but it has to be right conditions for it. If it's a symptom of mental illness, then that's a problem. If you're using plastic surgery when you could try diet/gym first, then that's a problem. If you're only doing it to fit into 'beauty standards'...then, again, that's a problem. The spectacle of the show is the real issue here. It's so much more on how conventionally attractive these people are now. Instead of how fixing their birth defects have helped them physically live a better life. ...Anyways. I feel like people should do what they want with their bodies. Just be transparent about the work that you've done.

ehhhhh plastic surgery is problematic in the sense that not all doctors are honest and upfront about how the procedures go, the outcomes, and long term affects. And why should 20 year olds get cosmetic (not necessary) plastic surgery when they haven’t fully grown into their face yet? At the end of the day, you are changing your physical body by putting foreign material into it. I can see the skepticism. Do what you want, nobody is stopping you, but know that the mind is powerful and if the root is insecurity, getting your face changed isn’t going to change the insecurity without some mental work as well. Therapy is cheaper than surgery so might as well try that first in my opinion (coming from someone who went to therapy for heavy insecurity issues for years).

i think the only surgery the first girl might have “needed” was jaw surgery. i had an overgrown bottom jaw and it was actually quite painful and i’ve had jaw surgery to correct it

I had a rhinoplasty and I still hate my face and nose. Honestly, people with perfect small noses will never understand the pain of growing up with a crooked and over protruding nasal tip, especially in this day and age of fake social media beauty standards. But for me it has been something I have obsessed and cried over for almost 20 years and has severely affected my mental health. We need more media representation of people with unique nose shapes, but that sadly won't happen anytime soon, as most celebrities have done a lot of plastic surgery and won't even come forward.

My mom doesn't like her nose. When she was twelve as part of puberty she noticed her nose was growing, her sisters weren't convinced until the end of the week, when her nose had fully grown in. I don't consider my mom's nose ugly, but I am aware that it doesn't fit conventional beauty standards. I have a smaller sort of nose, my nose also changed a little after puberty, but not to the shape my mom has, it pretty much just grew to be proportionate to my body again. The problem with my nose is that it is harder to breath, which makes it hard to sleep at night. My dad always said he envied my mom's nose because he was a runner, and he appreciated the ability to breather in lots of air without the walls of your nose hitting up against each other constantly. Well, I'm not good at communicating, but what I'm trying to say is, at the end of the day, we all sometimes wish we had what others had, but should all appreciate the bodies we have anyway. Like how at times my sister has straight hair and wants curly hair, and I have curly hair and want straight. At the end of the day, I think I like being me.

Dude, I just want you to know that you should never have to feel this way and I can relate. I've been comparing myself to people online and literally the people around me. It's really bad and I feel like we have every right to talk about this because it's a genuine problem. The people that we compare ourselves to aren't the ones at fault, it is the beauty standards that we've seen literally everywhere bro. We all look normal, and we shouldn't think we don't. Talking about this always hurts because I know that people younger than I am worry about this shit too. As a brazilian, I understand koreans in a different way when it comes to plastic surgery and beauty standards. The standards are different, but the pressure is the same. Appearance is a huge thing in our society and sometimes is just sick. They don't tell you in your face, but I noticed that if you're goodlooking, people treat you way better. I'm not living in Brazil now. As soon as I moved I felt soo relieved. There's a lot things on me that makes me feel insecure and living there wasn't helping, for example: my weight. Now I'm better, but I still learning how to accept that being me is fine.

as someone who got their nose done at 17 because my parents agreed w me w how “ugly” my nose was (i also had breathing complications - but the shape of my nose came from my gypsy+jewish+latino roots, which gave me a really unique nose shape), i think its important to note that getting rid of one insecurity will only make you find others to focus on if ur issues stem from the inside. now i have a lot more issues w my face than i did before and its because i realized that even after going through all that, i still can’t look at myself in the mirror and like what i see. its addicting

I understand the need to fix misaligned and protruding jaws, for both aesthetic and health reasons. It kind of makes someone look how they were naturally 'meant' to look if their jaw had developed 'properly' (usually illnesses or poor nutrition in early life etc. are the reason people's jaws don't develop well), if that makes sense. But the other procedures were totally unnecessary, the first girl for instance - all her facial features like her nose and eyes looked good to me and it's a shame they changed them.

Yeah I felt quite sad about that because all those features made her feel more naturally herself as it’s natural of course. If she wanted to decrease the emphasise of her protruding jaw it can just help align better with the rest of her face for her natural look. But instead they pointed out everything that could be edited and therefore be a “new and improved” her. I felt more shocked from that close up side angle where you can’t see her face move and you feel like it’s just missing something because it doesn’t feel like the person, which sadly just makes everything obvious and visually is pointless because it just points out that it’s like a rubbed out part which is harsh but your eyes know. I know everything about everyone can be edited to look a certain way but you know it just makes you feel like something is lost and missing than replaced. I guess that’s when on the outer perspective reflects the inner natural glow that is what majorly stands out that it becomes sad that you can’t take anything back. But if she has been able to live with herself I hope she’s ok, but I know that deep inside most people, you remember what was the there and know that it’s changed you more than you know. This can represent different forms of growth other than the topic of plastic surgery. It can be awareness such as your actions or mindset. I don’t know. I just feel that we know she lost a big part of her that she should have been given a chance to know was really beautiful. I understand but it’s hard to accept how not everything can be as perfect enough the way things came at first. Such as functional body limbs or preferences.

I used to be a bit against cosmetic surgeries. Just a bit because it's easier to tell people to just love themselves as they are than it is to actually do it. But the more I've learned about it over the years, the drive to undergo these procedures is often not the individual's own weak constitution, but a society constantly telling them they aren't beautiful enough, that they won't get good opportunities with the face they have, that they're abnormal and monsters. *Even the strongest confidence has a breaking point.* Some of these people live in places where it's completely acceptable to tell your kids to get work done because they need some feature "fixed" for a job. So many of these people are just the beaten down product of their environment, and I don't think those of us who grew up outside of those societies and/or are closer to societal beauty standards can fairly judge these people. If someone told them they were beautiful and perfect just the way they are, if media showed more than just conventionally attractive people, if just a few people on the street paid them a random compliment -- would they have felt more comfortable in their skin? Would they feel like society accepted and respected them and gave them a fair chance? For the people in this show at least, cosmetic surgery wasn't just for some self-esteem boost, but a necessary medical procedure to improve their social and economic status. But also, f*ck the people and industries profiting off of people’s insecurities by promoting society’s discriminatory beauty standards with their marketing tactics.

I just started getting into Kpop and have been learning more about Korean culture and it was pretty surprising to me how much looks are just naturally discussed. Like people will meet someone new and within the first few minutes immediately start talking about their looks. And not even just casually, they’ll go into specific detail about nose shape or lip fullness. I couldn’t imagine meeting a stranger and evaluating their face in detail like that, let alone telling them all about it. Learning that helped me understand a lot more why plastic surgery is considered the norm and I don’t blame anyone for doing through with it. I still can’t help but feel sad though when I see idols who start off in the industry so young and who are already very beautiful change their faces. It’s like they’re expected to not just be beautiful, but perfect.

Her face is no longer unique and I felt that the extra surgeries were unnecessary. Her new face is another example of what is known as a “Gangnam face”- which refers to many other women/men who get similar procedures done and so therefore look similar to each other. Her eyes, lips and nose are already attractive so if they made her chin just a little shorter and rounder then they shouldn’t have had to do anything else (in my opinion).

The most photogenic model in the world could be perceived as ugly in SK. Sometimes I wonder if it's the "safe" form of Aryan "beauty" And the fact surgery makes u expressionless, literally, it makes ur face stiff and still, our visual perception can point even the smallest changes when facial expressions occur, an eye can recognize when something is even slightly "off" when it doesn't align with what it is used to seeing, it's one of the reasons why people point out plastic surgery even though they could very well be what's considered naturally beautiful, skin has texture and faces SHOULD be unique so they can be differentiated, you know when people say "they all look the same" it's because they're going for the same type of beauty standard and because their faces, in a literal sense, ARE actually the same.

I actually fell good sometimes seeing the Korean standard of pretty forehead (that looks to round to me) and the "pretty" perfect v jawline, because it looks weird and I find the v line absolutely so forking ugly that I'm like "Oh, okay. *A CONFESSION OF SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY WENT UNDER KNIFE* Im not going to write my whole life story so let's get straight to the point - I had a breast augmentation due to my *extremelly* flat chest (even though Im 24 now, was 23 back when I got the surgery) ... and tbh after almost year and a half since then, I dont feel any better in my body... to be very honest, I actually prefer how I felt in my body before undergoing the surgery... .I know this might or might not be just me, the most people are really happy with their decision (if they get the result they desired) and I did and Im still not happy... it is actually worse... so: I feel worse, I paid shit ton of money, I went thru hell due to pain and post-op complications..... so yeah, if we are unhappy with ourselves, we should first try to find the root of the problem that's causing us to feel unhappy and try to fix it ouselves and if it isnt possible, then go get a help elsewhere... just my opinion

It's the main reason I tell my kids they have to wait for permanent things. Try to love your body and love what it can do before you try to attain an image that you may not even like a few years down the line. I'm 1 week post op healing from surgery atm but both procedures were to fix underlying medical things like 1- tummy tuck to repair torn abdominal muscles that have impacted my health for 15yrs 2- fat transfer to breast to fix tubular breast which is actually a birth defect. The removal of excess skin is just a bonus at this point but its such a huge under taking and I'm glad I did it at 32 and not any younger

I might understand a little bit of your feelings. I have big breasts, many people mock me beacause of that, and I get harassed very often, even sexually assaulted. I have seriously considered to remove or reduce my breasts, but eventually I gave up, not because of all the warnings from my doctor, but because I feel like losing the fight by doing the sugery, the fight between me and people who mistreated me, or even the fight between me and this toxic society. As an italian it was very shocking to see my country come in at third place in the 'highest plastic surgery rate' list. It honestly feels unreal: plastic surgery is something we rarely ever talk about and even when it is mentioned, it's most often condemned. It's simply not even a topic of discussion and some practises that are considered the norm in korea (such as gifting a PS for someone's birthday) would be unfathomable over here. When you see people walking down the street, none of them have had it (and you can tell trust me, cause when you DO see someone who's had, usually on tv, you can tell instantly cause italian surgeons are way less subtle and it's definitely noticeable). Here's my theory: unlike Koreans (from my understanding), the average Italian will not have had anything done, HOWEVER things change when you take a look at celebrities and public figures. People with prestige and fame, people who appear on live tv, mcs, singers etc tend to have procedures done. My only doubt being: is that niche group of people really enough to bring our PS rate THAT high? I believe most italians would agree with me that, once again, PS here is considered something extremely rare and out of the ordinary.

I've experienced differential treatment (in terms of physical appreciation and overall compliments,male attention, etc) after I lost a lot of weight naturally and since then the realisation struck me that looks really don't amount to much when it comes to a person. My weight keeps fluctuating and somedays I feel fitter while on other days I feel fatter. I stopped bothering about how my looks will appeal to others as I believe only those people who stick with you when you look your worst are there for the real you. Frankly, my experience is, that while people certainly do judge and respond to appearances, they also react to a host of other cues. The way we move, dress, talk, and carry ourselves. Just the general vibe we give off. So if a person has this feeling of relaxed self-confidence, most people will respond to that manner regardless of how they look. But it has to be something you really feel within yourself to work. Which is why worrying too much about what other people think all the time is self defeating. There are appropriate times and situations to be concerned with other people's opinions on matter's, but not all the time and not everyone's opinion. So yeah, just do you.

Something I'd like to point out: In Single's Inferno Jia is praised for her looks often being told she's the guys ideal type. I don't mind plastic surgery and I appreciate that she was truthful about her nose... But she also got a breast augmentation. She was the skinniest on the show and had the biggest breasts. I think this in a way sets yet another unrealistic standard (it's her body and I think she looks amazing). Honestly at this point I'm not even surprised that I find it so hard to like the way I look

Being called ugly, people would only date me in secret, strangers pointing at me and making disgusting comments because of my medical issues, classmates telling me I should k*ll myself and throwing trash in my hair, etc. It often overpowers the positive things. Here's a bit of something I came to realize: even if you managed to live up to others' standards of what beauty is, loving yourself should be more important than trying to be accepted by everyone. In the end, someone will accept you even if it's a small percentage of people. Popularity should NOT, I repeat, should NOT be the focus of our lives. Most of us who are willing to do good things for others and ourselves will succeed, while those who are a-holes to people on purpose will probably be left behind and ignored. I don't care how fine a person is, I just hope you're not an asshat to anyone no matter how they are and where they're from. Looks fade and no one stays young forever. Real love is when you see yourself with someone for the rest of your life. I could fall in love with the most beautiful woman or man or both in the world, but it would still be up to them if they wanted to be with me. I couldn't make anyone date me. If I ever date someone from Asia, I would rather they love themselves instead of seeking Popularity from the world. If anything, we are meant to love more than physical appearances.

I know two people who had to have jaw surgery one with protruding jaw and one with "no chin" syndrome. The surgery was 1000% necessary as they both couldn't eat certain kind of foods because their teeth were so messed up as a result of having a misshapen jaw. One of them took years on the wait list and then years to heal properly. It's no light surgery that's for sure 😨

@Rara Si no. I used to have discomfort in my jaw joint but it has gottem better. If anyrhing, i would say numbness in some areas might be uncomfortable. Like my upper lip and right side of upper lip were numb with pins and needles sensation for a couple of months. However, 3 months post op its almost back to normal.

I think it’s also worth noting that fans, especially younger ones, need to stop comparing themselves to their favs. People forget that celebs have the responsibility of upholding an attractive image. They use their money and status to do things to their appearance so that their appearance makes you want to look like them. I can almost guarantee that if idols weren’t who they were, they most likely wouldn’t be as attractive or desirable as they are now. They’d literally look like an average looking normal person.

I'm not Asian and for me when they show a before and after I honestly think the before face was totally fine and not ugly at all (excluding of course the fixing of medical issues like the misaligned jaw that impacts health). There are beauty ideals in each culture but to me Korean beauty standards are too strict, everyone has to look the same, women and men, and they end up looking the same after all those surgeries. I see it in the Korean soap operas my mum watches, and I don't find this uniformity attractive at all but again, my opinion on this is of no consequence. I just wish ppl would not be forced to fit such a strict mould to be considered attractive. That guy should have had his jaw fixed so he can eat and his skincare sorted to improve his skin and it would have been enough, he would have looked fine. Instead his final look was unsettling. 😬

There's actually historical context behind these Asian beauty standards. In the past, rich people were paler because they didn't have to do manual labor in the fields, so the paler you were, the richer you were deemed. This mindset has been passed down for generations, but it's different now, and I agree that the Kpop industry should stop promoting unrealistic beauty standards to younger audiences. I have to say though, @Bridgett Alvarado some kpop idols were selected to be trainees because they were so visually appealing... I wouldn't say they'd look average before getting work done.

People love talking shit about people who get surgery to look more attractive because it makes them feel like they’re not less of a person but in reality they’re jealous and broke and talentless or don’t have a talent that can make them money to get cosmetic procedures. I'll always stand behind the statment that plastic surgery is bad no matter what, unless you do it cause you have a medical issue like the dude who couldn't chew properly. The intention behind it is ALWAYS adhering to social beauty norms. A thing most people forget when it comes to plastic surgery is that these are still surgeries! It means there are risks and side effects. Also many long term effects aren't properly researched or people don't think of long term effects. Like eye surgeries. The skin around the eye changes drastically while you are aging. If you get an eye surgery to make your eye appear differently in your twenties it can be that you can't properly close your eye anymore when you are 60. Which will make another surgery medically necessary. It's not like you are just changing your hair or clothes, it will have consequences for a lifetime.

One of my issues, which is only further solidified by "Let Me In Thailand," is that plastic surgery (especially when done (by surgeons of) in other countries) often removes your physical ethnic and/or racial distinctions, and you become the "monstrous other" who has no ethnic/racial class they're accepted into, nor can physically relate to, anymore. This show majorly white-washed the people and made them so ethnically ambiguous, that they'd likely be further pushed to the fringes for looking weird, let alone for openly having surgery. For the rest of their lives, they're going to be mistaken for foreigners, as they have certain Korean features, and now appease the South Korean beauty standards, rather than the Thai ones. At the centre of it, all of my issues stem from the point that if it isn't helping a medical deformity through reconstructive plastic surgery, then you're never truly going to be happy with it, because it's a psychological barrier stopping you from loving yourself then, not your physical reflection in a mirror. Cosmetic surgery can only mask your past insecurities for so long, until you then become insecure in something else and the dangerous cycle of hating yourself, getting more cosmetic surgery to hide it, and then hating yourself still and again just continues to repeat. Referencing to what I wrote above, these people are only going to continue to suffer, even including the man (as the surgeons didn't just stop at re-aligning things - the only original issue here, mind you). His story also particularly shows how surgeons (whose patients are in such weak mental states pre/post-op, but also overall in their dangerously low self-esteem) can so easily implant further ideas of insecurities that weren't already held by the patient, as a means to get more money out of them. These surgeons are gaslighting these people who, in fact, don't need continuous surgeries to "correct" their faces, they need mental help and honestly, after some classes in morality, so do the surgeons. Seem as though cosmetic surgery is an elective surgery, could we not make people see a therapist for a single, mandatory visit? I feel like this would help a lot, and if people change their minds on getting cosmetic surgery, the Government is still taxing the therapist because they're given constant work clients, and therefore need to be taxed to make sure all in the field earn at a similar rate.

I would go as far as saying they have body dysphoria, which is a very valid cause to their negative outlook. I think plastic surgery itself is neutral. If someone does it for similar reasons people get tattoos, to make their bodies feel more like their own, then go for it. @@Vor567tez That's an interesting question and it got me thinking for a while. This my take on it: First, we have to acknowledge that we all change our appearances daily. We choose clothes, hair style and perhaps make up to make ourselves look how we want. If a person really wanted to look all natural, they basically would have to go around naked without ever cutting any of their hair. Different styling can make a person to look very different. People choose clothes that they like and feel most themselves wearing (ofc what's affordable affects this). That's what I do too. I mostly wear hoodies and sweatpants and I certainly wouldn't feel like myself if I would have to wear fancy dresses. I think that's the feeling we are talking about. I have never wanted to get any plastic surgery to have this feeling but clearly there are people who have. The difference between these daily decisions and plastic surgery is that ps is much more permanent. Is it needed for a change to be temporary in order to be an accepted change? Also ps and the way to make tattoos are both just technologies that people have developed. Many people like to use the latter one and they often describe these pictures on their skin to be part of their body that they love about themselves. I can imagine that changes made by ps would give similar feeling to some people and I respect that

Buy a shoe that fits your feet , right? Or do you cut your feet to match the one fixed shoe size the shop has? Of course you do the first one. That's the thing. Beauty , clothes ,hairstyle, tattoo are made for us, we are not made for them. It's their purpose to suit our taste not the opposite. But what does CS does? It permanently alters a body to fit that one shoe size that the shop has. In a sense we have to suit the object.It creates this perception that if I don't fit that one size than I am born defected. (And let me tell you this shoe shop each year changes it's fixed shoe size and has no regard of anyone's well being as long is earns them the money.) CS doesn't just makes thing permanent rather it perpetuate the notion that the problem was always"I". i used to be so adamantly pro plastic surgery until a best friend i drifted apart from got it, after seeing them for the first time in years they looked unrecognizable and it was especially jarring because i had always seen them as one of the most beautiful people i knew. i believe everyone has a right to decide for themselves but its hard to view plastic surgery in a vacuum when all insecurities ultimately stem from societal influence. i think that we need to encourage people to base their worth on other factors than physical appearance and i think all plastic/cosmetic surgery is 100% unnecessary. like i wish we could begin to normalize people just looking like people. being average has become a crime fr

I hope she realized her value before she got the surgery too. Everyone deserves respect no matter what they look like, ugly or pretty. Yes it is sad to see attractive people change themselves. But just know just because u think someone is naturally attractive, it doesn't mean they view themselves the same way. Everyone has an opinion about their appearance and it might be different from what others think of you. So who are u to tell her her plastic surgery was a bad idea? What if she likes it? It's only problematic if someone FORCES their standard of beauty on you. Hell, I myself don't find ALL of the beauty standards attractive. For example: the thigh gap and really upturned pointy nose. And I'm not saying that to be nice, I'm saying that's what i actually think. I dont care what women do with their bodies as long as it's safe. Then again, what you think is attractive is not what other people think is attractive. So don't you think it's wrong to force ur opinion on ur friend when she doesn't think the same? Even if it's positive? That's just toxic positivity at this point. Can't ur friend have an opinion on their own? And no, not all confidence stems from insecurity of their looks. For example, i hate my looks but does that stop me from going on in life? No. I'm not confident on my looks but I am confident in myself, my abilities, and what I'm able to accomplish. I really like my personality and that I'm an ambitious person. A LOT of people are like that. A lot of people have the "i look like crap but I'll still go out today" attitude. It’s interesting because apparently the nose is the most common physical insecurity people tend to have. It makes sense, therefore so many people feel that they need to fit into a ”fake standard”. It’s so sad and twisted in my opinion.

Although I've never had work done, I can see why people get nose jobs. I used to be bullied because people called my nose a "witch nose" (my nose is straight with a round end, but kind of medium, and it was slim on the top, but kinda big on the bottom). It made me so insecure, especially when I smiled, my nose looked big, and I even thought about getting a nose job, but I didn't because of the price. But I thought to myself, "If it wasn't for that $5,000 price, would I still be thinking about it?" To this day, I'm still learning to love my looks, but hopefully one day, I won't have to care about how my nose looks anymore.

Korean plastic surgeons are actually considered the best in the world. A LOT LOT LOT of people, especially transgender people, go there for their surgeries. It's actually frightening how good they are tbh. I have considered saving up to go to Korea for a rhinoplasty, until I realized that my nose fits my face and a "ski jump" nose would look really weird on me.

I worked in oral surgery, orthognathic surgery is crazy and amazing what it can do for a person. It is a serious surgery and commitment. It does change how you look but the basic need to do it is because your mouth doesn't close properly. You have to be quite careful afterwards to make sure your face is not bumped while healing. No playing with dogs or kids.

I feel like plastic surgery procedures have gotten WAY, way out of hand over the past few years. Suddenly you’re seeing a handful of people who now have extremely similar features on social media. This is unfortunate, knowing that some (not necessarily the majority of) people nowadays have this urge to go through with different plastic surgery procedures because if they decide to invest in that, for example, there’ll be higher chances for them to be more accepted and included in society. By no means am I saying that you shouldn’t get plastic surgery, all I’m saying is that it’s definitely your choice. But do make good choices cause that matters…well..for the most part.

I'm largely against plastic surgery unless there are medical reasons that something is causing issues, like the misaligned jaw, but it's hard to draw a line on what improves quality of life for someone given the halo effect of being beautiful. I think people often get plastic surgery because they think it will make them like themselves, but the reality is surgery can't fix your self-esteem and body image issues. I think that's how we get people that fall down the rabbit hole and end up at the plastic surgery singularity, especially with Westerners getting pillow face and looking 45 when they're 25. There are so many naturally beautiful people that have gotten absurd fillers and things that make them unrecognizable and it's sad. At the same time, people should be able to do what they want with their bodies, I just wish more people had insight into why they are doing these things and maybe make more moderate changes if they feel like they truly need to. I also think it's irresponsible for plastic surgeons to prey on those insecurities for the sake of making money, but I am sure there are responsible ones out there that genuinely believe they're helping people be their best selves. It's a tough subject, and there are a lot of interwoven societal and ethical issues that come into play with it.

For me plastic surgery and the progress we made in this field is not problematic but the way society treats it as a hidden thing. We compare ourselves to people with work done as if they were born like that! Also I think its a great thing people that have limitations or real social problems because of their appearence can change something that bothers them or make life difficult. In the other hand, its simply not fair that their life can be tough just because of some characteristics... Thats really sad to be honest. In conclusion, it have to be balanced, in terms of necessity and self improvement/ self-love. We should, of course, try harder to promote love as we are but its totally ok to want to change for yourself. I think the reason is also a main point.

And for judgmental people thinking or saying that other good looking people had surgery even if they didn’t. Some ladies i know would usually talk about other people who had surgery even if those people didn’t. They assume that everyone who looks good had plastic surgery. There are others who also deny they had surgery because they feel ashamed and some want to be told their beautiful “naturally” by making others think they’re born that way. I remember i dated a guy before and he asked me if i had anything done since girls these days are into much beautifying themselves and having surgery. I said none. He didn’t believe me. I really think there should be laws around celebrities selling beauty/fitness products while having plastic surgery, it's too easy to hide them and lie about the results to your own financial gain. It should be require to disclose plastic surgery procedures related to the product you're pushing. I.e. If you're gonna sell weightloss teas you should disclose you've had a recent liposuction so people won't attribute insane results to a tea.
