Hi I am from Australia could you please tell me the best place to purchase Korean Makeup? I heard that Hera was very good too!
@gudgal96479 жыл бұрын
Beauty Duty I'm also Korean. Hera is the most common cushion in Korea, but It is not really the best one, I should say. The coverage is great but the finish is not that beautiful. But if you want some coverage Hera is what you should go for. If you have a dry skin, and likes the "GWUANG"look, I would definitely recommend Amorepacific CC cushion, which has poor coverage but a real nice glowing finish and moisturizing effect. Sum37 is also really good, especially when concealing pores and redness, but the colors a bit too yellowish. I don't really recommend the Laneige & IOPE even though I know that these two are really famous out of South Korea.
@dtang60679 жыл бұрын
Sumeyya Justme As you know, really really many cosmetic brands are launching and accordingly various beauty products coming out :) Above all, I want to recommend "Amore pacific" brands. This brands is the biggest cosmetic brand in Korea and also has many cosmetic brand such as Etude House, Innisfree, Hanyul, Mamonde, Iope, Aritaum, Espoir, Laneige and etc!!! Soooo many brands are affiliated to the "Amore pacific"(www.amorepacific-cosmetics.com). Ah! these days, some small businesses are emerge now! Like "bbia" (www.bbia.co.kr) And brand "memebox" is similar with sephora but not expensive! This brand has their own products and also sell other cosmetic brands' products! (www.memebox.com) oh..I want to tell you more and more infromations..! I really appreciate to you that having a great interest of Korea beauty!
@dtang60679 жыл бұрын
Beauty Duty If you want to buy various brands of products, then just go to "Myeong-dong 명동" in Seoul! Myeong-dong has many cosmetic brands on there, so you will easily find the shops :) Actually brand "Etude House" has 6 shops in Myeong-dong! Other brands too. But some brands can only buy in the department store. Like "Amore pacific", "Sulhwasoo", "OHUI" and "Hera" you said. If you interest in "Hera" and have a chance to visit Korea, then visit seoul, Apgujeong-dong "Hera Boutique". You can see all of Hera's products :) I hope that It will help you

APPLAUDING YOUR REMARK ON THE KARSHITTIANS..gawd i can't stand that familly..I was so (and still am) sick and tired of seeing so many freaking videos on Kim's look(the highlighting under her eyes). now it;s the over drawn lip look with the other knucklehead sister...I always loved how the asian females can have that serious natural look with cosmetics and still look fabulous..it's like "r they wearing foundation or not?" the only thing is I just can't get used to the shineness(sp?) of their bb cream and not use powder..but other than that I love their cosmetics/skincare products..

Valerie Torres Korean make-up isn't actually "less" make-up. Same amount of make-up is applied, but it's a lot lighter and meant for showing off your natural features. Koreans actually use a lot of make-up. That's why they're so good at it. :) And the Western look is good, as well. You can mix and match. It depends on your face and what you want to show off!
@jessicanoll96909 жыл бұрын
Same here, I feel a bit overwhelmed by the trend of contouring and super drawn eyebrows, not really my style either!
@avocate20178 жыл бұрын
+Spumante Q I agree that the Korean make-up look doesn't actually involve "less" make-up. The reason why it tends to look more "natural" is that most Korean women are afraid to try many of the colors and techniques that Western women wear, especially on the eyes. Whenever I go to my local Sephora, it's full of Korean tourists buying all the latest Western beauty products. Koreans love Western beauty products, and many of them actually prefer Western brands over Korean brands.

I'm from Korea and I loved this film. Natural pretty look is definitely the most popular makeup look in Korea, although nowadays, you do see more people adopting the western trends. For instance, this winter, all the girls were wearing bold eyebrows and dark lips, with a rather matt base. But they do it in a quite subdued way. You definitely see more of these styles on the streets than on K-dramas. I think fashion and beauty trends are becoming more and more global and universal these days. Btw, you are amazing as always, Lisa:)

I gotta be honest I was apprehensive seeing a makeup artist such as yourself who is more steeped in 'western' beauty to try and recreate 'asian' beauty but I must say it was a pleasant surprise. And i must say I think this 'korean-look' really does suit you since you are already especially beautiful!

Usually, when applying cushion foundations, it works a lot better to dab the skin with the sponge. The concept of the cushion is to stamp your skin with the thin layer of foundation and it works a lot better and gives you better coverage if you pat the skin rather than rubbing across your skin like you did in the video. Plus, I found out that rubbing tends to wear out the sponge really quickly, mine started to fray whenever I rubbed it across my skin but my second one lasted forever because I always patted rather than rubbing. The dewy look is pronounced gwang (goo-ong the g and the EW in dew and the ong in gong) Also, the actress that you were talking about is named: Jeon Ji Hyun (pronounced jun-jee-hyun) from the drama, My love from another star. A makeup Rec is the eyebrow mascaras that first debuted with etude house. We Koreans tend to like a natural eyebrow look so we prefer to coat the hairs of the brows to fake thicker brows rather than drawing them in. Or powder, since it looks more natural to the eye because it avoids harsh lines.

I loved this tutorial over so many of I've ever watched on youtube. With no bias, I think asian makeup is great and best in the world. I really feel like asians don't cake their face and respect the aspect of always looking like themselves. Personally, daily makeup=asian makeup and night/party/special occasion=western makeup is a good balance :)

I was in Korea for the first time around the same time as Lisa so was really excited to see the outcome of her trip. Korean makeup and skincare formulas in the last decade have really been inspiring and really coming into its own in the last 5 years. Makes me slightly misty eyed remembering the early 90s - 00s when the Japanese makeup industry began to really inspire the global cosmetics scene with products such as non-sticky lipglosses, buttery smooth eyeshadows, amazing foundation formulas, effects and formats - all things we take for granted now as standards in Euro-American brands. This was probably missed by many but thank you Lisa for the effort you made to draw distinction between Korean and Japanese trends as opposed to lumping it all in as just "Asian".

I always find it very amusing how korean makeup is just EXACTLY opposite to western makeup. Straight thick eyebrows as oppose to clean arched eyebrows, ombre lips(darker on the outside and lighter on the inside) as oppose to gradient lips(darker on the inside, lighter on the outside). In my opinion, korean makeup focuses more on brightening their face, looking more awake while western makeup are more on creating different looks and vibes.
@23cokebottles9 жыл бұрын
From what I've seen, Korean makeup is super diverse (creating different looks and vibes) but is meant to be more flattering on East Asian faces (TYPICALLY less natural shadow, so skin becomes more important, gorgeous lips) and western makeup is more flattering on non-east asian faces (TYPICALLY bigger eyes of different/light colors, defined crease/socket, etc). Korean makeup is more about looking youthful, and western makeup is more about looking sensual. These are, of course, huge generalizations.

I love seeing the culture differences reflected onto modern makeup all-across the world and it fascinates me that even though the East Asian countries are so close to each other and share so many cultural similarities that the makeup is still noticeably different from each other. My favorite thing about Korean makeup is how much it focuses on youth. Their look is definitely more suited for my face over Western makeup. Western-style of makeup, unfortunately, tends to age me quite a bit (but I also have a baby face, so I guess that doesn't help XD). I love that the quality of both Korean and Japanese makeup and skincare are amazing from drugstore to highend due to the high demand. I love how experimental Korean companies are with skincare ingredients. There's always a new ingredient that becomes a trend throughout the entire industry. Sure, sometimes it's a bit annoying and gimmicky, but more often than not they unlock something awesome that western companies may have been too afraid to add to the mainstream ~cough~ snail secretion ~cough~. I also love how Korean makeup always finds a way to be innovative rather if it's in formulation, packaging, or delivery. It's mind-blowing to me. Korea and Japan both have huge and powerful beauty industries and it's interesting to see that starting to be recognized in the West (though too bad they often mess it up badly in the beginning). It's also fun to see Korean shops popping up here in Hawaii the past few years. I still got my fingers crossed for Étude! If you haven't heard of Peach and Lily yet, you should definitely check them out! It's a store based in New York that curates Asian beauty products. One of the co-owners was an esthetician in Korea for over 20 years I believe? So she really knows her stuff and I have loved everything she has recommended for me.

Koreans tend to be very picky, they don't like spending money on things that don't work. You would think that is how most people are, but they take it to a whole other level. They are all about the skin, so most of the trends involve minimal makeup looks, and big emphasis on skincare. It was so nice to see your opinion on everything! Loved this video!

This was so cool.. That is the only way I can explain it. I love how makeup changes from place to place. This is incredible and just made me love makeup and cosmetics even more!

apparently korean skincare is about 9 years ahead of western skincare! i've been getting into a lot of korean skincare and make up products lately due to the immaculate skin all korean people seem to have in dramas and such, and seriously, i'm never going back. thankfully i live in hk so korean products aren't that hard (nor expensive) to get my hands on. korean products are really no joke, and i have oily/blemished skin that i thought wouldn't go well with watery/glowy/moisturising korean products.

I'm Korean, and I was so surprised when I read the title for this video! So honored that you would film a tutorial based on Korean makeup/products haha. It was really interesting to hear what you had to say about the trends there lately because I haven't been there myself in over 5 years now. And the look was lovely~

I am a Canadian English teacher living in Korea, and let me tell you, EVERYONE in Korea is very in tune with the beauty trends that come and go very quickly here. One of my 10-year-old boy students noticed when my Korean co-teacher decided not to do her tight-liner one day that she happened to be in a hurry coming to work, hahaha.

It kinda killed me seeing you spread on the foundation instead of patting it on. Overall I love the look. I'm American and I'm in love with Korea. I'm always trying the Korean make up look but it always looked weird on me. I think I'll try this one out and see how it goes. :)

+Katherine Young She kind of knows what she's doing, though...
@SpaceLilies8 жыл бұрын
Well the difference is if you pat it on you get much fuller coverage. So if you spread it it goes on more sheer. Neither of the methods are more correct than the other, it depends on the coverage you're going for
@JenKwon868 жыл бұрын
+kitteh131 yes but she's introducing the Korean style and getting a tiny tiny amount and really patting it all over the face, if you want more coverage then there would be the second layer. This is THE Korean trend for the past two years. So it could have been nice if the Korean style applying method was introduced:)

+JenKwon86 which is why it's "inspired by". I usually take that to mean that the person taking the inspiration can put their own spin on it. :)

Lisa, thank you so much for sharing your trip and experiences in Korea. I really enjoyed learning about a beauty culture that is different from my own. It definitely is intellectually stimulating to think about how/why we do make-up, what it says about us or our values, and why we emphasize or focus on certain characteristics...it's really just exciting, fascinating, amazing, so on... Thank you, thank you!

I've enjoyed watching Australian-Korean beauty blogger Meejmuse (Jen) on KZbin for a long time now and have fun wearing the gradient lip out here in podunk-land. The whole look was very pretty on you and a fun change, thank you!
