Delamu (simplified Chinese: 茶马古道:德拉姆; traditional Chinese: 茶馬古道:德拉姆; pinyin: Cha ma gudao: de la mu) is an award winning 2004 documentary film directed by the acclaimed Fifth Generation Chinese filmmaker, Tian Zhuangzhuang. Delamu documents the people living in the Nujiang River Valley, along the Tea Horse Road, an ancient trade route between China's Yunnan province and Tibet. The film was jointly produced by companies in the People's Republic of China, and Japan. It had its American premier at the 2004 Tribeca Film Festival.

A wonderful record of a disappearing tradition. The English sub-titles could use a few corrections. Those are all mules, not horses. And "Mount Mary" is sacred Kawa Karpo, which is called Meili in Chinese.

Actually the korean commentator says horse in korean: "Mal' which is a borrowed word from the chinese also for horse. There is a different word for mule 'Nosae' but they're not using it. They must have some reason even though those beautiful animals are mules.

Barter is the best way of business, I think. Swapping things both parties need. It won't work in the so-called civilised world, of course, where capitalism is the king and we are the silent mules.
