I would definitely not like it, but then again I generally did not like Jia at all from the get go. However I am almost certain she said it because of some of the previous comments about him following her around like her dog and it was a sort of internal joke of theirs. You have to realize that there are literal hours of content they cut, so it is very possible that they joked about stuff like that even more behind the scenes.

I dont think rhe problem was him having a preference, it's the association with purity. Like you can tell she's innocent or pure because she's pale. It makes you think that a dark skin girl who is just as innocent will be seen as more sexy. I get this a lot as a Black woman. There are people who think I'm more sexual than my lighter skinned black friends because I am darker. It's a problem around thr world.

Just from my perspective, I don't think the men were relating her pale skin to how "pure" and "innocent" she was. It seemed like the pale comment was a separate comment to describe her. Like, "wow she's really pale and also really innocent looking". I think they were just talking about the way she dressed and how she presented herself was pure and innocent. From my perspective, she definitely did seem really innocent because of how she carried herself in the show. For example, Jia is just as pale as Jiyeon, but the men never described her as "pure", they called her "gorgeous" or "cold" or "intimidating" because that's how Jia dressed and carried herself. I think people are just reaching for a problem that isn't actually there, or because of language barriers people are misinterpreting the subtitles and jumping to conclusions.

A women that hits on younger guy is a cougar, a man that hits on younger girls is creepy or a pedophile, nice logic. There's a biological reason why men want virgins, it's to ensure paternity. A guy's biggest fear in terms of how they are wired biologically from millions of years of evolution is not being sure if the kid is his. We see it in other species where the males in the group sometimes commit infanticide when they have doubts about paternity. There's a reason why across every culture and corner around the globe for thousands of years men cherished verginity, we even have eunachs to ensure it around royality. Society is normalizing men to not care about it, and some are indoctrinated to go against their biology, but it's not what is natural. Also, younger women have a higher chance to successfully carry a healthy child to term. It's also why men are attracted to looks, because symmetry and good looks are indicators of healthy offsprings (also breats for feeding and hips for successful child birth), it's not at all superficial.

“Preference” is a word used to justify prejudice. All “preferences” are socially conditioned, which is why people supposed “preferences” often reflect the beauty ideals of the societies that they live in. Colorism, which is devaluing of brown/dark/black skin, and the preferential treatment of white/lighter skin people is a global problem. Evidenced by the billion dollar sale of skin bleaching products (which are often toxic & dangerous) throughout Asia, Africa and other places. Also the East Asian/Korean fixation with white/pale skin is rooted in the idea that tan skin/dark skin is bad. Evidenced by how much they look down on darker South Asians. It’s disingenuous to just say that “preferences” for pale skin, is just an innocent matter of taste.

@@bulathijau3506 something being a tradition going back a hundred or even a thousand years , does not make it right or unimpeachable human behavior. The traditional value of pale skin in East Asian society was based it on it signifying a higher class since the Noble/wealthy class did not work outdoors/fields they were less likely to have tans. In 2022, especially in a high tech industrial society like South Korea where even minimum wage workers work in doors pale skin does not denote class/labor status. So what does it represent? Its very interesting to attack the West/Westerners for supposedly imposing “our” values when you have a society that is heavily engaged in cultural theft of Western cultures, and is generally fixated on American culture, American power…. What exactly is “Western people” ? There is no nation in North America/Europe that is completely homogeneous like South Korea or Japan. Westerner societies are made up of people of different ethnicities/races, religions, speak a variety of languages, so there is no such thing as “Western People.” You speak as if Asians possess moral superiority as if no Asian nation/society has ever tried to colonize any of its neighbors or try to impose their culture on any of its neighbors. So Asian people/societies don’t look down on other Asian nations and societies? Like its all love between Korea and China? All love between Korea and Japan? Nice recap. The show was slightly addictive, even for those who don’t normally watch dating shows. I liked the commentators on the show at least as much as the contestants. I found it funny that there was such a big reaction to a HAIRY man, as if it was something comical! Your comparison of preference for different skin tones as equivalent to preference for different T&A sizes was interesting and I can kind of see that. The fact that the palest woman (and also the prettiest, imho) was left with only one choice in the end sort of supports the point that skin tone is not an overly important characteristic. Jia had a very seductive, somehow innocent AND femme-fatale style, which at least four of the men found irresistible. The show itself was a tour de force for her. There must have been many young girls at home taking notes, which makes me a little sad.

I don't think you can compare preferences for skin colours and races to height, the paler skin = pure saying comes from internalised colourism in certain cultures. And I don't really get why you can have preferences for skin colours? like what's the reason for not liking a certain skin shade, like there are reasons for not liking a short guy e.g. like me I've been made fun of for being tall so I don't wanna look even more taller by being with a shorter guy. So I don't believe you can compare the two and having preferences for skin colours is really weird and rooted in colourism.

I actually think it's still quite insensitive and simplistic to just rule it out as "preference". What constitutes "preference" is debatable but things like sexuality and personality are more consistent and less influenced by external factors. As a Korean, I understand what they mean when they say she's pale but the editors of the show could have been more responsible by adding in a disclaimer of some sort. I know that "pale skin" is a beauty standard rooted in history and doesn't apply to non east asians but viewers don't know that. Watching this back now and love how Anna says "this is exactly why I would never go on this sort of program!" and remembering how in the season 2 review she said she applied for Singles Inferno 2 XD

It's great to like pale skinny women but saying that's somehow linked to a personality or character traits is weird. Thick dark girls aren't all sexy and sassy and pale skinny girls aren't all innocent and pure. Yes he didn't say that but he linked the two so he very cleary implied it.

Seeing thism I got the whole summary of the show. Haha. Although I stopped watching it after episode 2, this video covered up almost everything for me. Lol. I am into Korean dating shows a lot, like a lot. I have watched Heart signals - All seasons, it's Chinese version and seasons, Somebody 1 & 2, Studio Vibes, Transit love. I have watched almost all kinds of dating shows and Singles Inferno was such a disappointment to me. It's made in a way to appear international audience more I believe as it was so so different than other dating shows. All the contestants were more focused on looking good and showing their athletic ability than knowing other people more and get to know each other. The biggest drawback of this show I say was the concept of Paradise and Hell. This forced them to pair up with someone just to enjoy that luxury and not they were meaning to do so. They cannot reveal their age and work in the island, that's the most thrilling part you see. In the HS seasons too, that's the most exciting part as it changes everyone's impression and makes it exciting to see who will change their choices after this. The cast wasn't impressing to me either, I liked that girl Yeawon, hyunjoong and Jin taek. I liked Transit Love the most instead. The concept was new and shockingly came out very well. The emotions that casts were going through can be felt clearly and made us go through roller coaster of emotions as well. That's what increased my expectations from Inferno's singles and got disappointed very badly.

Quite significantly that a beautiful island with lots of nature is seen as an inferno and a cold overpriced hotel that looks like dozens of its kind as paradise. And no: no one wants to be someones puppy.

I think the only couple that somewhat lasted was Jin taek and Soyeon. Yea won and Jun sik are just friends : / maybe because Jun sik was only giving off friendly vibes or they weren’t seriously interested in dating. As a guy, if I was on the show, I would have talked with everyone but would prob go for Yea won and Soyeon. And yupppp, most of the contestants had a heavy fitness background. One of them said he works out about 2 hours a day, 6 days a week I think, and I was like, whoaaa that’s a HUGE time commitment.

Yes, I thought the puppy thing was disrespectful. It would have been interesting if he had refused to go with her because of that and left her there on the beach… (I guess the other two guys would have jumped on the opportunity)

With the pale skin controversy, people probably got frustrated because of colorism and how it affects people of color, even in korea. Of course him liking pale girls is a personal preference, but it’s also indicative of a more universal beauty standard that puts down people with a darker complexion.

I see you are skipping over them but I do hope you read and ruminate on the colorism comments. It seems you don't fully understand what the issue is or how colorism is defined. It is engrained in korean society as well.

I like u so much Anna but liking "pale" skin isnt a preference... it is called racism. We prefer people w pale skin because we were taught that and its the beauty pattern that society say its better. And that happen cuz slaves and poor people used to had darker skin tones so it is consider worst. I know is cultural from asian people to have this "preference" and for that is consider "normal" but we have to stop saying that is normal cuz is not. We have all the information we need to understand why this happen and started to change that kind of mindset. You as a International youtuber should study the subject and talk more about it and not just close your eyes like nothing is happen... Im very disappointed w u.

My point too how can someone go with a girl or a boy when they called you puppy and people are going crazy when she called him puppy I literally felt like to slap on his face and ask him you are you dumb I couldn't write any comment because people are going crazy for this show and then they speak about standards holy shit i never commented on this because I know alot of people might hate this but that was reality for me

I don't have a problem with someone having a preference in their partner's skin color, only if they put down someone darker or lighter. Because some people like different things as long as they don't put down someone else because they are the opposite that seems okay. If you like tall guys, I don't think you should put down short men.
