I don't even quite blame the gen xers for that. We're kinda in the same boat. They told us the same "lies" their parents told them, because it looked like all the advice and hard work might actually pay off. They thought they were setting us up for success. "Here's all the wisdom we learned, plus internet. Go forth and succeed!!!" Then, y'know, life happened. Wars, conflict, stock market crashes and recession, inflation, pandemic, housing market chaos, everything went to shit fast. The thing is, it's not In our Gen X friends' nature to lie on the ground and beg for forgiveness. These are hardened folk. It's not that they don't feel sympathy for us, it's just they're so used to accepting pain and burying it that they don't need forgiveness or affirmations. Not knocking the Gen X folks either, I respect and admire you all, plus you know how to party or spin a snarky, soul crushing joke. Your humor is sardonic and I love it. I just wish the gens would agree that we aren't each other's enemy. We're all humans, trying to adapt to a whacky world. There are no sides, no us or them, we're all in the same boat eating the same shit sandwich. We just wanna make it better

My favorite part of working with Gen Z's and Millennials is that they constantly are saying "Oh god I'm so old" and it's all I can do to bend over and grab trash off the floor without looking like it hurts me. And I'm thinking like, man, you guys think you're old, I remember disco and the moon landing, thank you very much. I was a child, and I barely remember the moon landing because I was two, but I was actually alive for both. And my dad had to pay his parents "room and board" and they had an outhouse. My grandmother was terrifying.

As a Zillenial (that weird ‘94-97, sometimes ‘92-‘00, gap), I can’t relate more to the “which generation am I in?” Bc I definitely grew up with dial up internet and Buzzfeed quizzes but, I also use Gen Z slang frequently in casual speech and and part my hair in the middle. Not really fitting in with either side but I definitely feel like a mediator between the two generations sometimes.

Yup I am '94 from the USA. Having our formative years in the 2000s was definitely a transitionary time from millennials to gen Z. We were the first group of kids to have to navigate school with social media. KZbin, MySpace, then Facebook, then Instagram, SnapChat, Vine, etc. All those things started to take off from when I was in middleschool and highschool, so I can relate heavily with Gen Z when it comes to Social media and viral trends. We literally experienced the first internet viral dance videos, "Crank that -Soulja boy" lol, now Gen Z has viral tik tok dances. Also Zillenial can be as low as 92' and as high as 2002' from what I have seen

I'm in '92 but I just like what I like and yeah. Gen Z humour is just weird and I don't get it at all, but I also feel like a lot of millennial memes use stale as fuck humour. In the end I don't like anyone and just go rogue. I part my hair in the middle but I kinda just like some of the new fashions and I like trying them out. I don't feel too old for them yet and I figure I'll try new fashions until I hit some point where it starts looking awful. Like if I am 45 probably it would be a bit weird to wear super trendy clothes idk.
@ashtaylor41072 жыл бұрын
It’s the ‘93-98’ gap. Anyone in that age range is likely to feel strangely out of place in both generations. Its a very strange thing, but I’m honestly kind of glad to be that way and not ever be confused by either millennial things or gen z things.

I did a project my freshman year on generational studies. I love looking up things about different generations and what major events made them who they are. In my personal opinion, Gen Z is looked at as this super unstable and most likely depressed generation because of growing up with social media. We can't escape the world's problems. We're addicted to stress now, even though it's completely destroying our mental state. 9/11 happening when the older part of us was super young, school shootings becoming more prevalent, wars between political parties, being in school during Virus times, etc. I could go on but that would just make me sad so I won't. Moral of the story ig: Major events in history will affect each generation and we're seeing that happen now with the world's current state.
@taoist322 жыл бұрын
With a possible World War 3 or Nuclear war, Gen Z’s importance is more than symbolic. It’s the last generation before global collapse.

The younger Millenials (mid 90's onwards) like myself also grew up with social media. We're also the ones that saw the world get better, and then get worse again. :/
@eev142 жыл бұрын
That's probably mostly applicable to American Gen Z, here they don't behave much different, they're still seen as chaotic and kind of romanticizing depression.. But Gen Z is really young, they're in school/studying. Those are the most uncertain times in any generation's life. As a Millennial I can say we weren't seen as chaotic but most definitely as depressed, we can't forget how our generation basically made romanticizing mental illness a hobby on Tumblr, Gen Z does the same now but it's on TikTok. The absolute most tangible difference I have noticed (and what we talk about in our friend group that is a mix of millennials and Gen Z) is how Millennials were seen as being 'snowflakes' and rocking the boat, but Gen Z is actually more actively progressive and accepting and far more informed on social issues and discrimination because they have a generation above them that was able to kickstart that awareness. But that level of empathy has kind of gone beyond that of most millennials now, Gen Z genuinely don't seem to care as much about adjusting to different social situations, they'll express their opinions freely. Millennials are constantly anxious about sharing their opinions and very concerned with when it's 'appropriate' to do so. Essentially the biggest gap between the generations is not because of social media (we're all just as involved in social media) but it's to do with social rules (culture) and the outside influences on our psychology (different disorders being more prevalent in millennials or Gen Z). Plenty of differences to dive into and really lay out but it'd be ignorant to assume millennials aren't affected by all of these global events, we witnessed 911 live on TV as a kid, we were forced away from jobs and our in-person social life during the pandemic, we are just as stressed about political uproar. We've lived in a time where fascist ideology wasn't as common or at least still very actively being pushed back because our grandparents lived under Nazi Germany's occupation and were able to tell us about it. But all the last few people that lived through it consciously are dying in this decade and so there is no one left to push back against the dangers of fascism anymore. The effect is that Gen Z has been accustomed to fascist ideology being actively openly discussed whereas millennials actually lived through a time where fascism was HIGHLY controversial and fascist ideologies weren't even considered something to be openly debated. There has been a political shift from more people-focused politics into hyper-capitalism propelled by fascist ideologies.. So millennials aren't oblivious to problems in our current society, generally we are deflated and anyone from my generation I've spoken to has been scared of experiencing the start to a new world war. My point is; Gen Z are actively expressing their upset with the world and millennials are too fearful and disappointed to loudly take a stand, we were taught not to 'rock the boat'.

Its painful how accurate the emails are. We tend to be overly nice like utter bs, sometimes add heart ends. Even towards to other of our same generation were like this as of meant not to wanting to look rude. Like typing K and Ok, sounds rude and cold. So we would either type okay, oke or okayy. Adding a letter to think as if were listening on text. So thats a huge difference (Im even a high honored student, i dont need to slave up good moral points, but i still did it eitherway as its now a habit of mine)

As a Gen X, I'm so glad all these tribes that pit against each other don't include us.

It would be weird for such an older age group to ‘compete’ with teenagers. But we do criticize you a lot, it just goes unsaid as a lot of us grew up with gen X parents who gave us a lot of trauma. Every video you watch talking about toxic parents is gen X (sometimes boomer).
