As a licensed beautician, the only thing I found inaccurate in this video was the advising against exposure to water. We use water in service to rinse the neutralizer and perm solution from the hair you absolutely can get your hair wet after getting a perm, but do NOT shampoo or condition. Water itself will not break the new structure bonds the perm service created as we need to use water to rinse it off anyway. Shampoo however absolutely can negatively effect the longevity and set of a perm if done too soon. You can definitely shower the next or even same day of the perm, but do not actually wash the hair. Shampooing should be done at miminum 48-72 hours after the perm. But water itself by nature is fine

For after perm care, best to ask your hair stylist. Different styles and different compounds have different durations. I used to have to wait 3 days before my hair stylist switched to something else and then I only needed to wait a day

The first time I got a perm the curls were too tight and the stylist when in with a relaxer which worked like magic so definitely let them know if that happens to you!

I'm too afraid to do any perm or even color my hair. It is evident that perming damages the roots and may cause hair loss (or even balding) as we age. I'd love to try this but I'll wait until they have better safer perm formulas.

Appreciate the video! I just got my first perm ever a few days. How often do you shampoo your hair after your perm? Do you use any products like dry shampoo to clean the scalp? I read online it's once a week but my natural hair is also pretty oily and I usually shampoo it atleast 3 times a week before the perm lol. Thanks Cedric

I used to think my hair would get too oily without washing it every day, but the whole time I had a perm I was only washing it every week or so, and now that my perm grew out and was cut off, I'm still only washing my hair once a week-ish and only need it more if I've weighed it down with styling products. Basically, I think I believe the school of thought that says the more you wash your hair the more your scalp produces oils, since I broke that pattern, my scalp isn't overproducing oils anymore

Hey, I have a question. I recently got a perm in Korea, and the barber gave me a hair curler. He told me to use it only after my hair was completely dry from the blowdryer, almost to the point where all the curls were gone. However, I found online that most people recommend using a curler when your hair is damp, not completely dry. In the videos I saw, they used a curling cream that looked like gel, but the one my barber gave me looks exactly like whipped cream. Could this difference in the product be why the instructions are different?

i showed my barber inspiration and everything for this perm and he ended up giving me a curly hair perm and told me by the time i wash it it’ll loosen up and be wavy, and that just isnt the case its way too curly and im pretty upset man idk what to do such a waste of money

So when your straight hair roots come in, do you still use after a shower curl cream, and curl styling cream before applying spike glue and hairspray? And then with applying hairspray everyday, is it recommended to keep the hairspray in or just shower and remove it at the end of the day? Because I know it’s not good to wash your hair everyday with shampoo

good questions i wash my hair with water everyday just not shampoo and conditioner. I try to minimize the amount of hairspray and spike glue that goes in my hair so i usually put in the curl cream and styling cream at night and wake up with curly voluminous hair. if i want to look good for an event or going out i will use the spike glue and hairspray. i use the styling cream and bb 10 in 1 cream (especially this one because its for all hair types) to make sure my hair is styled in the way i want and healthy even in the straight hair comes back in and i have half a perm. hope this helps :)

hey i dont have a perm but ive found that sometimes im able to make my hair look like wavy/curly if i add some sea salt spray and pray that its a good day. would it still be good to use the curl shampoo + conditioner ? edit: also, when you towel dry, which way do you face? ive found that looking up, down, or level leads to different results and was wondering ow you hold your head when drying as well as showering

if your hair just wavy-straight then dont use the curl shampoo and curl conditioner it is meant for curly hair. i look down to dry my hair. sea salt spray is good and you can also use spike glue

the curl cream is used for hair health the styling cream is used to style. it has different ingredients that promote longevity and just overall health. I feel like it is important if you want to keep your hair healthy if you are going to reperm in the future

So this is kind of an opposite reaction to most people, but thank you for making this video because it made me decide to NOT get a perm. I wanted to just check the care that would come with a perm and I'm glad I did some research first before impulsively getting it. Your video gave me a lot of insight into the time and effort it takes to maintain a perm and made me realize I am not willing to add more products or spend more time on my care routine (at least for now lol).

@@smoothie6101 So the texture of my hair changed forever, even after cutting and growing it out. My hair used to be on the "silky" side and now it's more rough/brittle/frizzy? It's back to being mostly straight now of course after years of growing it out but I'll still have stragglers that are just curly (not the well defined curls kind) and yeah while I loved the look of perming my hair and the volume it gave-it really damaged my hair entirely in the end so I would be very cautious.

when I got my first Korean perm it fell out in a matter of hours, so I called the stylist and she said come back next week so i went the next week and it fell out again but after a week. plus i followed a lot of these steps. so I dont know if I'm doing something wrong or the stylist

honestly i feel like its the stylist, if you followed these steps. my hair is super weak and out of everyone i know my perm fades the fastest. even then, because i followed these steps, my perm lasts a while. it could be the salon you are going to because i noticed by going to different salons, the solution and technique vary causing my perm to fade a month earlier than normal if i dont go to a good place
