I worked for a year at an army ammunition plant (technical guy, IT department). We convinced our branch to allow us to observe the test facility when they were testing 20mm rounds from a Vulcan. The sound... the rumble... was unbelievable. We were 20 feet away, around the corner of a concrete building, behind a sheet metal wall with observation portals. We could still CLEARLY feel the shockwaves. My sternum was vibrating within my chest. Dust from the ground around us was lifting. AND? It was firing at one quarter the normal speed. We were issued ear plugs AND acoustic over-the-ear muffs. Deafening roar.

It may even need to take into consideration wind speed along the trajectory. Maybe every 1000th bullet could relay info back to the gun to help the others improve their aim. 🤷♂

Horrible? That thing looks awesome! Plus, the two men are praising it, so I don't think they would ever call it "horrible" unless it was being aimed at them LOL.

Back in 2012/2013 we had one of these in FoB Airborne right outside Kabul, Afghanistan never had a chance to see it in action but I can only imagine how things where before they had one of these there. I mean these were originally made to protect carriers strike groups and that still considered today one of the biggest military assets today and we have 9 strike groups.

I love the added Arma 3 footage ("simulation in the game" part).... this is probably the first KZbin video that showcased the gameplay footage as "gameplay footage" instead of trying to claim the footage is "real life" and use it to trick unknowing people into thinking some country is at war with another lol. BTW, if you have a competent gaming PC, I highly recommend the "game" (more of an open world military sim sandbox with literally endless ways to play and things to do), fantastic game, even if you aren't interested in military sims, there's game modes/mods like Exile Mod, kinda like DayZ -esq if you've heard of that infamous game (minus the zombles usually, but can be added), pretty much a loot and shoot open environment with AI soldier missions and base building, or A3S(Arma 3 Survival Mod) which is a "recreation" of DayZ pretty much, plus all the other stuff, king of the kill, military ops, air ops, sea, whatever. And on a important side note, that gameplay footage is most likely from "Compared Comparison", a great KZbin channel that uses Arma 3 gameplay footage, along with some mods, to recreate super realistic videos of typically, C-RAM, PHALANX, and A-10 Warthog weapons/planes, along with other goodies (it's nice when footage is explained where and who created it, credit you know)

Like the Mark 19 automatic grenade launcher, the Army got C-RAM from the Navy and fell madly in love with the concept. The weapon tracks the individual bullets and adjusts the gun until the target is taking the stream of bullets. Mmmmmm, destruction.

The fun thing about weapon system videos is that it's all declassified weapons, which means they don't mind showing them or, in most cases, flexing them because that kind of weaponry is standardized. Now imagine what kind of fun toys they're keeping under the wraps which nobody knows about.

Idk if he will ever read this or if it will translate properly. But the US also picks up their shells at the range. I’m sure we reuse them since shells are reusable. You just put new powder, charge pin, and lead in and you got a functional bullet to reuse. I’m not sure if we still use this practice and I know for bigger rounds like 30mm and such we don’t reuse those shells.

This is what you show soldiers to teach them why PEACE should be the first option. Nobody is surviving 30,000 bullets to the chest. (Man that soldier on the left sure looks nervous watching the chain guns fire).

The C-Ram is pretty efficient, the tracking system can determine trajectory in order to ignore non threatening rockets. It is also good enough that the OPs Center can pinpoint the source location of the rocket. The enemy usually used washer/dryer timers on their mortars so would be long gone by the time we got to the source. These setups also used DIY tubes so were very inaccurate, their sole purpose was to hit indiscriminately, break morale and give Pogues a reason to file PTSD claims.

C-RAM is the land based version of the Phalanx weapon system, or CWIS in Naval parlance. It's a last ditch defense against incoming artillery shells, mortar shells, rockets, or missiles. The US is augmenting this system with more mobile vehicle based systems like IM and DEM SHORAD on modified Stryker chassis, and last I heard was doing initial capability trials on the Israeli Iron Dome system, which is a missile based system that can really put a ton of interceptor missiles into the air on simultaneous targets and has a larger engagement envelope than the gun based systems.
