@@hanjizoe2648 well. He assumes they were killed. So my statement remains true, as it was still what he thinks. I have this from a interview of him In another video where answering basically the question of what happened to his family when he fled. Phrased as "what is the punishment for escaping the country? What if North Korea got you" type question. And he says. Well when you flee the country they take your family for it. He then takes quite the pause obviously weighed down by this. And continues talking. There's no room there for deserting and the family pays the price... So it seems he atleast is certain his freedom came at the cost of his families life. Or as you said worse. But you are already a prisoner so to speak. So except moving you over to harder. More difficult jobs they don't have anything but killing you/torturing you to do. And usually the ones that get tortured don't survive. So although they might not have gotten killed per SE. They did suffer death, or torture untill death. As he says that the families of those that escape disappear. And usually that means ☠️

The reason why the U.S. military can use media/technology is because it is volunteer service. I have been told by a prior KATUSA that having technology while serving in the ROK leads to desertion. It is mandatory service, which means that the majority don't want to be there to begin with.

I was in an Aviation/MI unit. While our Katusa's did not have tech on post, most of them had better tech than the US soldiers at home. Heck, I got my copy of Doom II from a Katusa, before it even hit the stores in the US!

The SK government recently changed the rules to allow soldiers to have phones, shortened the required term of service, and improved the quality of food on base. So things have definitely gotten better! Well, until KTrump fucks it all up I'm sure...

@@MrSirwolf2001 I'm guessing you didn't live in the same barracks with KATUSAs. All our KATUSAs had cell phones. Some even had TV's. If the KATUSA Sergeant Major ever came to inspect, they would just hand over all their tech to their GI roommate.
@Col_Fragg
@Col_Fragg Жыл бұрын
I have no doubt that you were told that and that may be how the COC rationalizes it but Korean Soldiers have never been permitted to keep cell phones or other tech. Males who are doing their two year stretch of mandatory military service live in a room with 50 other guys. They have very few privileges and many restrictions. That's just how it's always been done and no one dares change it. So, it's not like they would know one way or another if it leads to desertion.

Its odd to think that these military moments seem so "normal" to Americans is because they really help the building of "friendship" within the unit. The release of stress, the shared moments of laughter, the fond memory or two of someone helping you get through the daily routine of your day? These moments REALLY have a life-long lasting impact on you as an individual, a member of a unit, and a member of a military branch. To think that other countries don't have this kind of "soldier banter" happening seems kind of sad. It makes it look like serving in the military is simply "a chore" to do and once over you never think of it again. Yet, the American military (And others like UK/Canada for example) have a real deep "life long love" of the people they served with, if not a direct love for the military branch itself.

It's a fascinating thing, for sure. I love reading other countries military members impressions of US military members they've served/trained/fought with. Universally they say Americans are "loud, crazy, and fun when off duty, but super disciplined and professional at work yet still have fun". A potent support to what you're saying is the Ukraine invasion - the Ukrainians are doing so much better, unit vs. unit, compared to the Russians because the Ukrainian military has a NCO Corps and had its military culture (and the creation of the NCO Corps) instilled by the California National Guard starting back in like '93 I think it was (on going to this day - it's also why their pilots are so damn good). Meanwhile, Russians have no real unit cohesion, no strong esprit de corps, low morale, and horrific leadership (imagine being a platoon commander with no NCOs and you have to handle officer duties AND personnel paperwork and all that other shit the NCOs deal with - no wonder they can't get much done other than brutality).

@@thalmoragent9344 exactly. A sergeant in the Russian military is basically just a private thats been in longer. They cannot independently make decisions within their ROE, they have to get command approval for basically everything, but not their unit commander - from what I've heard they're usually going up to the equivalent of a LTC or colonel. Meanwhile the lieutenant has to do all the unit command stuff PLUS all the NCO duties. Its beyond inssne.

American soldiers run on comradery and morale. In the U.S. the soldiers are trained/programmed to treat fellow soldiers as extensions of themselves or as legit blood family. They don't leave the dead and wounded behind(if it can be helped) and when those bullets and rockets are flying by the could care less the color of skin or religion of the brother/sister next to them because they are in it together and there is no time or room for hate.

I had to go through pepper spray training at fort Bliss prior to my deployment to Camp Taji, Iraq in 2009. It was fucking awful and the stuff stayed in your skin for days. You had to shower with just your head under the water otherwise the runoff from the pepper spray would get all in your crotch and you would hear screams from the other showers from the people who forgot this. Even a day or two later the sweat from your skin would reactivate it and your forehead would just start burning.

My brother has been in military for almost twenty years after joining at 17 and he has some of the funniest stories since being in the military. His boot camp stories are the funniest since he didn’t take it serious so the drill sergeant would constantly be in his face and him trying not to laugh at the drill sergeant. On one of his bases they did pranks on all the newcomers and then a full blown prank war will start between the newcomers and them. Luckily he has sent me videos of their pranks and dumb ideas that they did so it’s always a good laugh when rewatching them and forever saved.

The zoom meeting one reminded me back when all classes for school were online. For college, all of my classes were on zoom. In the morning. So there I am still having to wake up early. Though this time I'd wake up at 7 instead of 6 in the morning since class was at 8. Anyways, I was always in my pajamas. I'd just throw on a sweater over and sit in front of my laptop with my cup of coffee (and sneaking in some bites of pancakes sandwich) Though sometimes I'd put on a different shirt but still keep my pajama pants on.
