I tend to simply go for Sempio. Safe bet there. Contemplating to visit Korea in September. I hope to try some delicious authentic food, If they will allow foreigners into the establishments.

Wonderful! My Bae is Korean, and I'm the cook in the family... so I've had to learn a LOT. The difference between soy for cooking and soy for flavouring/dipping really DOES make a difference... and the Guk (Soup) soy is CRUCIAL. Using the Guk (Soup) soy sauce means you get a really good flavour, but your soup (or sauce) doesn't become soy sauce soup, it just enhances the flavour of the stock you're making (try it with a beef soup - you'll see what I mean). It rather reminds me of Maggi sauce (which I grew up with) - it adds a meaty/mushroomy/umami taste, not just BAM - SOY! that overwhelms. My Bae, our Korean friends, and my in-laws all swear by Sempio 701 - and yes, it's good, but SORRY SORRY SORRY I personally can't really tell the difference between it and the normal Sempio or the 501... but THEY can and GOODNESS do I get an earful if I don't use it LOL Shhhh.... I tend to use mushroom flavoured soy when cooking just-us non-soup items, but shhhhhhh For special dishes, or good meats, etc., I only use Korean. Love your videos, they really help (and unlike my Korean mother-in-law in Seoul when she gives me cooking lessons in person or weekly via Zoom, YOU don't yell LOL

Lee Kum Kee soy sauce is so good...aromatic, not too salty. My fave🧡

Hi👋 Lee Kum Kee is Chinese soy sauce. I never tried it, but if you like it, that is all that matters

Do all the soy sauces need to be refrigerated after opening? I don’t refrigerate my Japanese soy sauce
@ciganyweaverandherperiwink6293 Жыл бұрын
Good question, I'd be interested to hear from someone experienced in the professional brewing side of things-- I don't refrigerate my Japanese soy sauce either.
@ModernPepper Жыл бұрын
Great question! I do not refrigerate my soy sauces. I keep them in a cool place, away from the sun/window and any heat source (near the stove/oven).
@SgtRocko Жыл бұрын
If I may... I never refrigerate any soy sauce (including the Chinese mushroom soy I use)... none of the Koreans I know/am related to do, either. Good thing, we never have any space!

Oh my, avoid Korean soy sauce. It's rough, not complex, and just plain bad. Im waiting for that industry to mature.
@ModernPepper10 ай бұрын
@bigfish1676 Hi 👋 Please share which Korean soy sauce and brand you are referring to🙏. FYI - Koreans have been making soy sauce since existence of our history. And the ‘industry’ has been making soy sauce for decades. Soy sauce is one of the 3 pillars of sauces in Korean cuisine. And Korean soy sauce ‘industry’ is not only huge (just like the ketchup industry is huge in the states, as a staple consumption for majority of US households, soy sauce is a staple consumption for all Korean households), it has advanced in its product developments, with many varieties of soy sauces. Your comment above of “I’m waiting for that [Korean soy sauce] industry to mature” is as provocative as saying “I’m waiting for the Italian pasta ‘industry’ to mature.” BUT you are absolutely entitled to your opinion of your dislike of Korean soy sauces🙏. Do you like Chinese soy sauce? Vietnamese soy sauce? Thai soy sauce? All Asian soy sauces do not taste the same. Perhaps, u might like these other Asian soy sauces🤷♀️
