Monday I go to Mexico. I fly into Cancun, Quintana Roo and take the new Tran Maya to Merida, Yucatan, then Valladolid, Yucatan, then Campeche, Campeche. We are chiefly there to celebrate The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe December 12th which we believe we'll be in Campeche at this time. In the interior we're focusing on the turkey based foods but in Campeche I'm excited to try baby shark. My favorite dish always is ceviche with squid and octopus.

5 de Mayo was originally celebrated in the U.S. because during La Batalla de Puebla, Mexico fought against the French, who were in their second attempt of invading Mexico. During this period, the then President of Mexico asked for help from Abraham Lincoln, since they were good friends because they were both liberals. The U.S. and Mexico fought off the French, stopping them from invading the U.S. (French people’s original plan). Sad thing is that in the U.S. they don’t teach that at school and they think it’s our Independence Day, which is actually September 16th.

5 de Mayo is a holiday from the state of Puabla, MX. I grew up in Puebla but I was born in the US. The date is significant because it was when Mexico won a battle/war against France, who at the time was far more powerful. France invaded Mexico and they were throttled in Puebla. Not a significant date compared to Mexico's Independence date but it is a holiday in Mexico, mainly in Puebla and the Eastern coast.

You should do a Mexican from the ranch and a Mexican from the city. In the city they often dance cumbia while in the ranch is more or norteñas, zapateado. Many differences.
@marianopatino9397 күн бұрын
Cinco de mayo (5th of may) is celebrated in the US a lot but rarely in Mexico. The story behind it is that a small town in Mexico named Puebla fought off the French army. The town defended themselves with their own weapons. It is seen like a great battle because the people who defended the town of Puebla were all local, farmers, fathers, and some ex-military. They were outnumbered heavily but still fought to not give up their land. And against all odds the towns people won and the French retreated from the town. A huge upset during the time since the French had superior technology and weaponry. Do not confuse this as the end of the revolutionary war, it was just a battle, an important one since it was a big moral blow to the French, but it wasn't Independence Day or the end of the revolution.

Hello! Just an historic appointment: May the 5th is when General Ignacio Zaragoza and Porfirio Díaz defeated French Army in 1862. French army was the most powerful at that time. In the end, they managed to impose a European emperor on us, who was not bad, but he was not Mexican (Maximiliano de Habsburgo). But US people usually mistake this date with the Independence Day, which is in September 16. Another curiosity: We are the only Hispanoamerican country that actually celebrates the BEGINNING of the Independence W4R, while all other countries celebrates the END of theirs.

No, 5 de Mayo DO is an important date, since that’s when the Puebla Battle against France happened and Mexico defeated them, stopping from invading, but yes. It’s not THAT big like Independence Day to make a big celebration every year from it, it’s important, it’s something marked at our calendar, and yes, certainly at Puebla state they celebrate it a little bit more than at the rest of the country, at schools they usually make some ceremony, or have something like speeches, homework related to that, etc., BUT that’s it, now, at the USA they made of it a big thing, and that has made to think many people there that 5 dd Mayo is our Independence Day… of course not. I have a theory about the reason they made of it such a big thing: France had the intention not just from invading Mexico, but once they would have done it, they wanted to take advantage of already having the control of the land at the south of the USA, that was at that moment at their civil war, therefore: VERY vulnerable for an invasion, so the fact that Mexico stopped France, saved them from an imminent invasion, so yes, that became a big thing for them because that saved them at that very vulnerable moment!
