Being a fan of BTS, it's not always the kilig it's the comfort they gave to ARMYs, it's like having a friend or older brothers to me. Sa totoo lang i'm just happy watching them, they make me happy. I think the fancam originated with SNSD Yuri. There was this video of her that went viral. And I think that is how it all started. Then got evolved. Hence, music shows have the fancams. Cguro coz they are for those with biases. And it doesn’t necessarily mean a fan took the video. But I believe it is how it started.

1.) Stan - It originated from eminem's song "Stan" which is about an obssesive fan. 2.) Fancam - the pioneers of fancam yes they are fans but not just simple fans. A lot of them uses dslrs and mirrorless cameras with zoom lenses they usually have YT channels and gets a lot of views from their uploads. Fancams helped a lot of lesser known groups. Biggest example is EXID with the Hani fancam and nancy's fancams for Momoland. Fancams really put them to fame way back.

It's weird to say, but based on my experience - You'll just know you're a stan when you can easily choose to call yourself one. :) That's how I would call myself a stan vs when I was just a casual listener of groups. But I guess to really give a bit of context on that personal gauge of sorts, if you naturally feel like associating yourself with a group, even if you don't know a whole lot about them (which is very subjective re: the definition of 'a lot', since this can vary depending on who's asking :)) so mahirap siyang basis), you'll likely be comfortable (or feel natural) enough to call yourself a stan. I guess I liken this to being a fan of a football/sports team. You don't need to have seen all their games, or know all their strategies, but you get drawn to a team for certain reasons (which can vary from person to person). You just know you want to root for that specific team, and it'll come naturally to you to call yourself a supporter of that team, that you're excited enough to see them win. That's how stanning feels to me. :) I hope this shed a bit of light!

Yung sa pocas, mahal kasi yung photocards and may mga nagbebenta pa ng mga libo pataas kaya grabe protektahan and para na rin kasi siyang collector's item. Kumbaga for example na lang ng sa mga money collectors, may mga sleeves din silang ginagamit doon so ayun. Plus na rin yung lumalaki yung value nung photocard as times go by. For example na lang na nairelease yung photocards mga 6yrs ago and hindi na siya pinoproduce ngayon, ibig sabihin rare poca na siya kaya medyo mahal na rin kung bibilhin mo yun ngayon. Dipende pa kung gaano naprotektahan yung PC; kasi kung may slight damage, pwedeng bawas value iyon so kaya siya pinoprotektahan talaga para in the future na gusto nang ibenta ng owner yung poca niya, maibebenta niya yun for a high price and may mga sensitive kpop collectors din kasi. 9:24 you're right kasi wala online yung photos nila na yun, exclusive lang sa albums na yun.

The fancam thing I understand, and it's more both company and fan-taken videos. The one that you showed was a company fancam or a video taken by the company for fans. However, a fancam taken by an actual fan would be more at like concerts, fan signs, etc, or events where the fans can see the idols in person. That's my best clarification :)

in my opinion, stan status is something you can declare for yourself -- if you feel dedicated (?) enough to a group or artist or if you like them enough that you would wanna call yourself that, then you are haha but more objectively, I'd say that stans really get into the fan culture of being a fan, like by watching extra content with the artist(s) involved or following their activities and social media, etc. fancams were also kinda weird and interesting to me when I first started getting into kpop. at first, I mostly only ever saw fancams of concert performances and I too was amazed at the videos that were like 4K quality 0-0 I later became concerned about those though because cameras aren't usually allowed into concert venues..... but I'm pretty sure the vertically oriented fancams of music show performances like the one shown in the video came more recently as a result of "inspiration"/demand for videos like the fancams that fans would actually shoot -- these "fancams" are officially filmed by the staff of the music show and are released on official channels, so they're not technically fancams anymore, but they're still 직캠, according to that meaning and as someone who ended up getting sucked into the photocard collecting scene (even though I never thought I would), I think a special appeal about photocards is literally just having the physical photo in your hand the photos indeed are not released officially online, so the best that we have otherwise are usually scans I guess part of it is also just the prestige attached to photocards in general -- if there weren't so many people collecting them, they'd be a lot less special

At first when I watch fancams of kpop groups, I can tell that the fan is the one recording the vid. But now I think every performances have a professional videographer designated to each member. I can say this cause sometimes I see clips of members looking for their cam. From the meaning of fancam being the fan recording it to now translated to vid recorded for the fans bias.😀

the fancams getting recorded by professionals are a new uprising from the pandemic, when actual fans couldn't take the videos themselves, so music shows started making them themselves (for views ig??). the of fancams weren't that HD, haha. I myself am a long-time fan of kpop, where I just love the music that comes from this industry (seriously, can't get this stuff anywhere else). Never got a solid answer to that "when do you call yourself a stan/part of the fandom vs just a fan". I believe it relies on how invested you are, and whether you want to join the fandom and be a stan. Also, I always questioned photocards. Like, cool, they're understandable, but why are we avidly collecting idols' printed selfies, yknow? It truly is amusing.

You're a STAN if you spend your time, like devoted to your bias group or bias member all the time. Like you vote in polls/award shows, watch various KZbin videos, etc. A fan is usually just casual listeners who like their music and/or the group who only knows basic info on them and who doesn't engage socially in medias. You are right about FANCAMS. Originally, fancams came from fans who took videos in live performances of concerts. But during the pandemic, no fans were allowed in music shows so the production films individual cameras per member so I think that's what you're seeing now. I am a kpop fan since 2009 so I'm "old" lol. So I also dont get the hype around these PHOTO CARDS. Back in my day, we were obsessed on just buying the physical album and that's our collection, not these photo cards.

When I first started listening to kpop, I never cared about photo cards. For me, it’s just a photo and madami naman si lang photos online so I don’t really need it. Pero when I started purchasing and collecting albums, slowly naging pc collector na din ako. There’s just a feeling of that natural high pag na pull mo ung pc na gusto mo. Like you mentioned, it’s just like collecting Pokémon, baseball or NBA cards. Siguro kase ung excitement to pull your bias’ pc ung nakakatuwa dun and can be traded with other fans din lol. So they’re not really exclusive but if walang ka trade, yung iba would buy multiple copies of the same album just to try their luck lol. But I think it’s crazy that rare photo cards would cost a lot of money. Overpricing ung hindi nakakatuwa.

I started off as a BTS fan and now follow, TXT, EXO, SHINee and Super Junior. I'm a BTS ARMY (from the UK) but as I'm an older gal I've been on a steep learning curve over the last three years. About the fancam... when groups are performing especially on music shows there is a dedicated camera for each member. The cameraman trails a particular member... That is why it looks good coz its done by a professional cameraman. Mind you this is when they are on music or variety shows. Its for the fans for that particular member. Now imagine if the group has 13 members...
