The highlight of this episode for me is Joel's reaction to Aaron's teenage emo phase "Ew you're so dramatic no wonder you're an entertainer" 🤣🤣🤣 Well you guys are entertaining that's for sure lmao

I was literally rolling around laughing at Aaron's stories of angsty music and telling his mom he'd run away, only to sit by the stairs! 😂 This episode came along right as I am also juggling parental expectations. As someone in their twenties, I still sometimes feel like I am disappointing my mom, who is a single parent. But I often feel like I'm darned if I do and darned if I don't. I've stopped asking for permission from others to live my life.

Glad to know that I wasn't the only dramatic kid back then who would cry loudly on purpose so my mum would hear me😂😂😂 While my parents' had quite high expectations for me, I think they did so also because they had faith that I would be able to meet those expectations (while I myself didn't😅). So I guess I did needed that extra push and pressure sometimes. And as time goes by, I guess they came to understand more from my perspective and pressured me less which was good.

Me personally, since I remembered, my parents have never commanded or put their demands on me in choosing what I wanted to do or wanted to be, they even encouraged me to choose a new school when I was 10 yo and honestly I’m so happy for that. But, as I grew up at my age now, I assume that one of the reasons for those parents who’s demanding their children to live the way they designed is somehow they don’t want to lose what they think they invested in, or, maybe, they are just self-centered and not open their mind enough as the time changes.

i think the little play rent thing is a good way of teaching kids financial responsibility. We stress about finance because we’re thrown into and we had to learn it the hard way. I think knowing the flow of the world can only do good for their future.

45.25 Joel compares the life of the kids present day and the Great Depression era...suddenly i remember kids that should live in ongoing conflict in many places in this world...some kids even should work to help parents make end meet For me yes being responsible with money from young age is important...also important, in this world full of inequality, i hope we can be generous and teach my kids (later) to be generous

Parenting goal is to not screw our kids up the way our parents screwed us up - as long as we screw them up in a new way we win :) Doesn't matter what you do, you can't make anyone happy 100% of the time :) Love when you said parents are King and Queen. I feel more like my kids servant....lol. You guys are killing me with the "When are you going to get married?" talk. I mean, if you aren't dating anyone special why would a parent ask that? I'm with Joel on the allowance in middle school thing. My teens get $5 every day for feeing the cats or whatever, and I expect them to pay for their own gifts/outtings from that (though not really cuz I'm always handing them cash if they go out with friends to make sure they have it). Kids should only have to worry about their responsibilities - which is getting up and going to school (school is stupid), learning about friendship and social settings, and taking a shower before mom passes out from the smell :)

When it comes to Taking your child’s allowance to be used as a teaching method for rent, utilities, ect. I actually strongly agree with Joel. A child should be able to BE a child have a Childhood with innocence. Making a child mature or grow up too Quickly through a robotic system like that I think would backfire. Honestly I feel like it might even stress the child out a bit too early depending on the age. It may even have the opposite effect. Instead of making them understand financial stability they may only understand to stress and worry about finances in an extreme way.

I watched sort of documentary ..the very low birth rate in South Korea means parents only have one child and because he/she is the only child parents want their child to live the best of their life and its one ofthe reason parents put so much pressure on teachers...and this could lead to something like Joel mentioned.

In my country...SEA...majority of parents want their kids to be civil servant...people who work fo government. This typical job doesn't pay much but really stable. They will retire in 58 to 60 yo and get pension every month. So they dont have to burden their kids when they are old. However a new social phenomenon occurs...its the rise of Sandwich Generation, this generation is in productive age, they support their parents and raise their own kids at the same time.

Being a female asian american is the same nagging on what should be done with your life like going to college but to just be a stay at home wife with kids with that doctor or lawyer for your future.😂 I feel like migrated family strongly encourage you go to college and have a 6 digit career and are disappointed when you don't but they don't understand what it's even for they just know that they'll call you a disappointment for not doing whatever they say. 😅 My grandma is old school and stubborn with the included spoiled living in america. She says what she pleases about my life with no filter and no matter how well off I think she'll still want more. I hope it's truly out of love wanting us to reach the peak of our capabilities they assume we have but they also are put off by the dreams we want to try to pursue 😆

When it comes to teaching your children about financial management "in general", I think the question shouldn't be about whether it's good or bad Rather it's the method of the teaching that is more important Personally I think it's necessary regardless of the kid's age But it should be a process and teaching method should develop as the kid grows And every method is a case by case, one might work for some kids, but some other might need different approach The way I see it, this might be the reason why Joel and Aaron didn't see eye to eye on this matter Maybe it's just that the specific method shown in that video doesn't suit Joel, but it suits Aaron

Kids allowance should be what they want to spend their money on , my son did chores, of cleaning his room and taking the trash out. He started at 2years old it was a training program to be able to go to his friends house when he wanted, spent time at the parks go shopping and he would keep his chores done. The money got bigger as he grew older.
