This film is awesome, didn't mind the teasing because the last 30 minutes paid off SO MUCH

Honestly, seeing more of the enemy creatures than Godzilla, in a GODZILLA movie, this isn't the first time that's happened.

Which movies do that? How many of them? I didn't count. I didn't like this Godzilla movie. He had no real fight with the military. That was always what Godzilla did in the past.

dave d Terror of Mechagodzilla and Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster are good examples of this. I haven't seen the movie yet, don't have the time until Sunday, but from what I've heard so far, this isn't anything different from most Godzilla movies.

dave d Just about EVERY Godzilla movie, other than the first one, had Godzilla fighting some other monster. The military not getting involved was the whole point, no military can take down Godzilla, the only thing that can beat Godzilla is another monster.

I give this movie an 8.5 out of 10. Great acting, great visuals and sound effects, good story, and set pieces. The negatives come with a slight lack of godzilla fighting action and the pacing of the film. Overall it's a pretty good film.

So because we get to see Godzilla in the last 30 minutes that makes it good. The movie has moments of potential, but the whole movie is a letdown. Once Bryan Cranston dies there is no one you care for. There was a moving scene in the beginning where he watches his wife die. That's the initial incident. But they through it out the window. ??? From a writing point of view the movie is all over the map. There are a few good visual moments, but I agree with Martin the 3D doesn't do it for me either.

I'm not really that big of a Godzilla fan and I found this movie to be very enjoyable, I'm no fanboy, it's not perfect it has some pacing issues in the middle, but that last 30 minutes was fantastic and I actually didn't mind the human element, even though it could have used some work. So yeah this is one of those all over the place kind of films, it's going to work for some but not work for others. There are already plans for a sequel and I'm hoping it's an improvement in some areas.

This movie was boring. Like really, really boring. The last thirty minutes were good, not great, and not worth sitting through the rest of the movie. You didn't want to fill the movie with just action, fine, but at least give me something to keep me interested until the final fight. They didn't.

Positives: Great performances from the cast. Well made CGI. Great action sequences. Excellent directing. Fun 1st and 3rd. Negatives: Some editing errors. Slow second act. Bryan Cranston not being in it a lot. Mixed: Not enough of Godzilla. Final verdict: 9/10

I think for the type of film this is, it's a fine movie. It's not as great as the trailers indicated, but it's much better than what it's detractors claim. But the title is misleading for this day and age. I would call it, 'what Pacific Rim should have been'.

Martin, most science fiction movies are plot driven stories where the events of the story drive the story forward, causing a character to react to those events. The plot is the catalyst and characters are secondary since they act in accordance with the plot because they do not create events or situations on their own.

Godzilla (2014) is 10 years old This is a hard movie to actually love But the good news is that the king of monsters himself Godzilla is back on top form After so many failed attempts in cinema to make him cool again director Gareth Edwards reboots the beloved franchise going back to the TOHO days The good news is that all the spectacle is there from the more sophisticated special effects bringing Godzilla to life to the carnage from the battles Heck the movie even tries to humanize him at certain points The biggest drawback is that the human characters are just so boring and uninteresting It's a good cast with Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Wantanabe, and Bryan Cranston but they are not fully developed to care about, the human drama is not interesting and it ends up being very boring And Edwards has a tendency to divert away from the action only looking from a distance Even the climax is difficult to make out being obscured by dark lighting and dust Like seriously Godzilla is a side character in his own movie for crying out loud! Thankfully this would lay the foundation for more entertaining films in this expanded Monsterverse allowing more opponents for Godzilla to face At least the filmmakers actually respect more of the original lore from the older films of the 1950s

I think Godzilla is best where he has a few small fights here and there, and that the humans exist only to get you from one fight to the next or to introduce a new monster. Like Godzilla vs Space Godzilla, or Godzilla vs Destroyah, he isn't in the movie a lot, but enough to get you satisfied. Idk, I just want to see Godzilla kicking ass hahaha

18:51 No Martin, because even if you switched out the 98 Godzilla with the 2014 Godzilla and even took away some of the sillier elements (don't mix silly with incompetent) you're still left with an awful script and awful characters. People who complain about the characters in the new movie need to watch the '98 film again. Matthew Broderick's character is boring as hell; the love interest is a despicable, whimpering waif (not to mention her acting was horrible); the side characters (save for Jean Reno) were generic and not memorable. Furthermore, Director Roland Emmerich was more concerned with showing iconic landmarks being destroyed (having characters stand there slack-jawed, "That's the [insert famous NY landmark]) and ripping off scenes from Jurassic Park than telling a Godzilla story.
@29AndreG10 жыл бұрын
TheWabbajackX James Rolfe said the 98 film looks more like a remake of The Beast of 20,000 Fathoms.
@ninjawraith1710 жыл бұрын
29AndreG I'm a big fan of James Rolfe's work, he introduced me to a much larger film palette, especially horror films. Anyway, I've watched James' video on the 98 film and he said it might as well have been the Harryhausen film, but I'll go further, the "Bf20KF" film is the superior film. The film is based on an original story by the great Ray Bradbury with effects by his life-long friend and SFX Grandmaster, Ray Harryhausen. The people involved in that film, unlike Emmerich, were trying to tell an interesting story (with a creature whose look inspired the look of Godzilla!) while Emmerich film is just a SyFy film with a bigger budget that only cares about the fact that he can say it's a Godzilla film when it's not, it's the same kind of film fodder I'd see if was watching Mystery Science Theater 3000.

I change my opinion on this film, most of the actors in the film are lack luster, and the only one I was really invested in was Bryan Cranston, who was shamefully killed off in the first 25-30 minutes of the movie. Aaron Taylor Johnston didn't really do it for me. I don't care how much flack I get for this, I think Godzilla 98 is better than this movie, IN MY OPINION! This film deserves nothing more than a 6.7, because of a boring melo-drama revolving a around a soldier and his family that I don't care about. They failed in the department of characters, so they might as well have shown more fight scenes between Godzilla and the Mutos. Pacific Rim did this thing better! BTW I am not a Godzilla fan, and I am judging the film based on it's ability to entertain and interest me.

Even though I'm late to the party this Godzilla movie was the jumping point the commercials was misleading and they speak of Godzilla a lot without showing him but the first fight between one of the Moto monster they cut was Pure trash I loved the way Godzilla look pretty chubby but he was kool looking I was treated this movie I was happy to see Godzilla back on the big screen but to barely show him and follow human characters who you really don't care about huge points very low rental.
