Great presentation, I watched it live during the Namm! I like the old pictures of ARP's, bands &wife ;-) So glad that I now have the amazing reissue for music making!

Around 12:23 - 12:27 David says, "It was a wild time to be in the music industry - even the roadies had ****" (something inaudible. I don't know if there has been a censor from somewhere because this glitch blocks out what he says on other copies of this talk. Maybe it's a dodgy microphone! It's a fascinating presentation. This is just the kind of thing we need to hear - the real pioneers in the business.

Interesting. Sadly, ARP would not have gone out of business when it did if more credence was given to Alan Pearlman & Joe Mancuso and less to Friend.

+Filthy McNasty What do you mean? I read that article "The Rise & Fall of ARP Instruments" It seems that the company's main problem was that they left the CEO chair empty.... too often..... could you explain? I'd love to hear!
@Coowallsky8 жыл бұрын
Adam Borseti The problem was 3 people wanted to be CEO at the same time and David Friend put the company's future in the failed Avatar guitar synth. Pearlman didn't speak put because he didn't feel his word carried much leverage at the time.

Filthy McNasty That's sad. I mean, the Avatar was ARP's white elephant. It was sort of like the Polymoog. When it worked, it sounded wicked, but it didn't work often.

Adam Borseti Agreed and only Roland was ever able to make a marketable guitar synth. You sure don't see very many used today.

The actual inventor was Alan R. Pearlman, he designed the circuits, he did the most of the work, he should speak

Rubbish. The Odyssey was one of David's designs. Much of the other work was by Dennis Colin. Pearly had his own projects and directorship to keep him busy.
