The piano sound caught my attention, as it sounds very similar to the Korg Triton grand piano, but the Korg Triton has a much brighter sound. I was wondering if the Korg I3 and EK50 might be replacing the former Korg Triton from 1999?

I hope they release a new version with a more organic acoustic piano sound for solo, and 76 keys version with similar feel to Korg PA 3x LE. An eco system that lets you add and swap purchased styles pack. I often wonder what will happen, if Apple decides to use their Arm chips, HomePod speaker, IOS , apps store, slick interface , combined with midi controller and Mainstage to create a series of keyboard.

Hi Jeremy, I would like to ask about your opinion on whether I should get EK 50 or i3 as they are both almost the same in terms of sound and price. I mainly play it as accompaniment to vocals and some solo pieces but i also use it in a live band sometimes. Does the lack of speakers in the i3 make it troublesome for practice without having an amplifier or external speakers? Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi Jeremy nice review. Are there any predefined styles with these sound-sets? It would be interesting to hear them also. If you review the styles later on, as usual I’d be very interested in the jazz and EDM styles. Also, since there is no arpeggiator on this unit, do some of the styles contain arpeggios? This could be a nice workaround , esp. since the voices in the styles can be modified or muted. Regards 😎

My only concern is that with only 64 voices of polyphony, being able to layer 3 upper sounds may cause a bit of note-stealing when playing key-heavy passages. It does sound pretty good, and would make a good bottom keyboard for a live rig. I may order one this week and see how these keyboard sets can be customized as to volume levels of the layered sounds. Mr. See - did you have a chance to check out the volume controls for the layers (Upper 2/3) and its ability to be adjusted with relation to the Main voice (Upper 1)? I would imagine that everything is pretty well adjustable, but it would be nice to have confirmation before actually getting one and possibly having the hassle of needing to return it. I usually wait a bit before ordering something brand new from ANY manufacturer, but I did pull the trigger on the PA700 when they were first released and never had an issue. I hope that the same might be true of this unit too...

I think the "Grand Piano" was the only decent aounding piano sound, the other piano sounds sounded like General MIDI piano sounds.

Double handed operation J.....??? On the the fly??? As with transpose ... Add or mute sound 2 and 3 on EK with single touch is possible ....not the case on this is it ?? ... Maybe another deal breaker ...I must check out the man. Also is there lower hold? The logistics of this boards OS for performance work gets more interesting .. a load of Q's ... Doesn't look like a gig option at first glance .... Keith

This shouldn’t have been called a workstation. This is just an arranger keyboard. It would’ve made more since of they called it an arranger cause it’s hella basic. Kross is more advanced than this. It seems to target Casio and Yamaha more than Pro Yamaha or Roland

They don't sound 'PLASTIK' as you suggest. I will agree that they do sound a bit dated, but the sounds are still pretty good and it would make a good beginner workstation, as well as a good live board. I am considering one, if only for its weight and portability for live gigging as a bottom keyboard. The dated sound would likely be from the somewhat older sound engine that they have used...it still sounds pretty good, though...
