some media companies mess around. if they make a claim, whether it's true or not, it adds to the strike of a channel. even if their claim is refuted eventually, 3 strikes suspends the account. wiser to be safe than sorry.

04:20 I think that "Crowley Split" may have been meant for a few rabid Don Airey/Ozzy Osbourne keyboard fans, but in traditional Ujiie style, he gave it his own recipe by turning it into a sort of 80's pop. It's amazing sometimes a distinct patch (or a group of sounds) can be made to sound "dark", or "hard", or even "upbeat."

I want this one for what it is. I've only just recently realised the XMT in KingKorg is an evolution of MS2000 and Radias engines (and microkorg and R3) - to me that part alone is a worthy of getting one. I have nothing against VA and couldn't care less if it does or doesn't sounds like OB or Prophet. Where I am, a second hand Radias comes up maybe once every 3 years, and although I could import one from Japan or US, by the time I'd pay for shipping, customs duties and sales taxes, it would amount to more than just geting new KingKorg from a local dealer. Already having several sequencers, a lack of one in this keyboard doesn't bother me. I think its physical UI is still pretty well suited for endless tweaking and modding. Looks like this synth has got pretty low following, probably helped by the development of Korg's own true analogue "*logue" family machines. I reckon 20 years from now it will have the same core following the MS2000 does now - those who own it, love it. Thank you Katsunori Ujiie and the SWCreativeJapan team!

A sampler is a piece hardware that records a sound sample, manipulates it and then allows you to play it back, Kingkorg uses Oscillators to produce sound. you can't sample sounds with the actual Kingkorg keyboard nor use its features to load your samples from a computer. The Kingkorg was £900 when I wrote that comment and my Motif keyboard which I own that can do full sampling I purchased for £600! with the Yamaha Motif you can sample any synthesiser thats ever been on the market and play it back in it near full glory, I see it as a bit of a waste of money compared to the unit I already own.

Well, that's a compliment because the M3 is a very warm synth with nice filters. However you need the EXB-Radias board to get the analogish capability to have low alias waveforms, pulse width modulation and hard sync. And then it sounds like a Radias, which is awesome, but the filters have one essential sound. As an owner of a few analogs, I have to say that the KK sounds quite rich and similar. You dissers are a funny bunch, probably from gearslutz.

Thank you for the demo, Ujiie-san. This would make a decent synth for beginners if it wasn't for the comparably high price tag. I'm still trying to figure out Korg's motivation behind the King Korg, it does not seem to bring anything new to the table, save for a nice interface and the vac tube. Given that you could buy a Novation Ultranova and a Waldorf Blofeld desktop for the price of a KK and still had some money left, I doubt this will be a top seller.

Ahhh...Lets also talk workflow. When you have a decent board vs VST's I find my work flow is so stream lined when composing a beat. You scroll through sounds in seconds, edit without clicks and save with press of buttons. It is debatable but to this day, I can't program on software fast enough. I just like pressing keys in real time with no delay or stuttering. Own: Triton, Alesis Fusion, Micron, M Audio Venom.

I use a desktop PC and its fine, but I would rather have a dedicated piece of hardware for live performance. Laptops arent really ideal though I would always vouch for a desktop unless doing location recording maybe. In a studio VSTs are just as good as hardware. I use Omnisphere for synths, Ivory 2 for pianos, both of which pretty much equal or better any piece of hardware. Id love a Kronos if I was playing live, but currently couldnt justify it for what I could get on the VST market.

Hey plays it so nice, he gives it credibility. I'm not a fan of this. It may be tight, but I loved the airiness of the roland keyboards of the 80's. the D50 and JD800 blow this clear out of the picture. Of course, how should I expect anything to match their quality. Not much of anything can anyway. This thing just sounds dinky to me, and even Korg reps can't say much about this.

I have been playing keyboards since 1986 and trust me in the last 10 years the only good thing I have seen is the Virus AND because the software is amazing. But any company has come with nothing new, all that thing he is doing you can do it with a Roland JP 8000, they are just reorganizing the buttons and stuff but is the same thing. And the funny thing is that I can copy paste this paragraph any where under any review of any thing created after 2004 and it would apply to all.
@hsn10

This sounds way better then JP 8000. Go to shop and hear it with good stereo, forget about headphones. It has awesome full sound. JP 8000 is not even on par with mikrokorg XL+. For me biggest KingKorg disadvantage is no drums.
@ish233

ish233 guys for drums and sequencer buy KROME/KRONOS Workstation, a perfect, rudimentary duo with KingKORG. And let be the KingKORG analog modelling synth what he is - a performance tool. For all-in-one devices play workstation or keyboard, plz. Enough unspecializied device on market. I love the KingKORG as it is, finally, finally, a pure synth like the old times; brute, straightforward and efficient. KingKorg is designed as second or third board, not as main.
@ish233
@ish233 9 жыл бұрын
J. de Bruyn Sounds about right, I was wondering about the price for just another Oscillator, why not add some more features. I guess Korg already has enough little items on the market to justify a sequencer and they specially model the Korg monotribe to assist the King Korg if necessary, which is another expense added to the already pretty expensive king Korg. It's a business interest and possibly a good experience, but is the Korg Radias more worth the while with only two oscillators ?
@hsn10
@hsn10 9 жыл бұрын
ish233 If you want more features just use computer instead of hw synth. Current virtual instruments will give you much more features and cheaper. I like their sound better then kingkorg you can have so much effect plugins. Initial investment for computer based studio is cost of macbook pro 13. Then you can get nice midi keyboards with lot of sliders and knobs and aftertouch just for $300 and they come with some basic DAW. Add $200 for Logic PRO X, $500 for native instruments komplete 10, $200 for Native instruments audio interface with midi and 6 outputs. Everything is customizable, you can redefine controls as you want, most midi keyboards itself can do 4 way splits, you do not even need to define splits in DAW. And you have much more for your money compared to $1200 King Korg virtual synth with no aftertouch, filter knob on wrong side and just 100 user presets, no drums or sequencer. I finished my migration from HW workstations like Kronos and PA-900 to MacBook Pro + sw synths and i am not looking back ever. For cheaper price, i got more and i have very nice laptop basically for free (I sold Kronos, it was more expensive with less outputs) which i can use for my other work and it has sweet 9 hours battery life and retina high resolution display. I really liked PA 900 and Kromos 3 years ago, but this technology is now obsolete - computer based setup is much better. Korg made no progress - you will get just more RAM and wood sides with new kronos and you have to buy all your extension libraries again, they are not transferable to new kronos due to DRM lock. Computers improved a lot in last few years - both software and hardware. IPad is nice for controlling some DAW features, lot of good and cheap software for it, ipad has large and high resolution screen, compare it with screen in kronos. And same as with macbook, you can use ipad for lot of other things than music. I recommend everybody to go and visit some friend with computer based studio and try it for a while.

This is the first time one of your demos *didn't* make me want to run out and buy the synth. I like the idea of this synth (and the size and the design) but most of the sounds seemsa bit ... thin and buzzy once you take out the huge amounts of reverb and delay and other effects. Maybe it's a case of a synth with boring presets but a lot of power?
