Dude.. your videos are by far the best and most helpful wavestate videos I have found on the internet. You give ALLLLLL of the information and just the right amount of explanation to follow along. Maybe I just have ADHD, but it's really hard to follow along with other videos. The ones you make, while explaining and making changes we can see AND hear simultaneously are amazing. So, thank you!!!!

Cool. Hope you enjoy the modwave. You can do similar stuff as on the Wavestate, but the oscillators are very different, naturally. Modwave have two layers where the Wavestate has four. But modwave has 2 oscillators + sub oscillator per wave, so that opens up some cool possibilities. The motion sequencer on the modwave is very similar to the wavesequencer on the Wavestate.

Hi Graham. The manuals are here: www.waveformer.net/files/WF-Berlin-School-Ambient-Sound-Bank.pdf www.waveformer.net/files/WF2-Berlin-School-Ambient-Sound-Bank-Vol2.pdf I recommend that you turn down the volume for all layers except one and play with that one first, make it sing, then bring in the other layers one by one. Volume for the four layers can be set by Performance Mod Knob 5-8. Good luck 🙂.

1 : shape doesn't work on "arpeggiator" 2 : shape doesn't work when it's on "Off" 3 : same for sample, you can only have one step on the sample when the arp is active 4 : you didn't explain the parameters of the arpeggiator, and it's the MOST important to follow your tutorial and get the same song 5 : you didn' t show the ENV INTENSITY to get the same song
@Waveformer3 жыл бұрын
Hi Remi. This wasn't really meant as a tutorial, it more of an annotated jam. 1. Yes, the shape lane works just fine with the arpeggiator :-). I use that on almost all my patches. Here's what I do: - Turn off Note Advance for all Wave Sequence Lanes - Turn on Sync Notes for all layers (Shift + Wave Sequence Select, to the left of the display) - Turn on Tempo Sync for all Wave Sequence Lanes (Shift + Timing, in the WSEQ LANES section to the far left of the panel, make sure you do this for all the 7 Lanes) - Check the Resolution of the Arpeggiator, and make sure each step in the Timing Sequence Lane is set to the same duration - For each step in the Timing Sequence Lane, set duration to the same as the Arpeggiator Resolution, and set XFade time to 0.053 (if you get clicking noises at the end of each step, try increasing it until the clicking noise goes away, or lower the Amp Envelope Release time) - Go to the Amp Envelope and increase the Release time to at around 0.1 sec. If the Wave Sequence Steps for some reason do not advance, try increasing this release time slightly. If you increase it too much, you might hear bits of the previous note when the next one triggers. Can be a fun effect, making the Arpeggiator play intervals or triads. - If you keep the Arpeggiator playing while you edit the sound, the Arpeggiator might get slightly out of sync with the Wave Sequence, and you might hear a clicking noise (or just some weird double triggering artifacts) at the beginning of each note. This does not happen if you just turn a knob, so live tweaking while Arpeggiator plays is just fine, but it might happen if you change effect algorithm or do some actions in the menu. If this happens, save your performance and switch to another performance and back again. Or you could try turning all layers off and then back on again. Or stopping the Arpeggiator. 2. That's right. you have to set "Use shape" to "On" for the Step Seq Lane. 3. You can have a different sample for each note played by the arpeggiator. The arpeggiator and all the sequence lanes move in sync. See detailed description under 1. above. 4. See 1. above. 5. That's right. I don't explain how to create this patch in this video. It's just an annotated jam. I do have a tutorial another video that covers a somewhat similar patch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5CsgmWqmadlqKM If you send me your email address (contact me at h@mmer.no), I'll email you the patch used in the "Melody Maker" video, and you can see how it's all set up. The patch is also available in my "Berlin School and Ambient Construction Kit Vol 2 for Korg Wavestate" here: waveformer.gumroad.com/#LarkE

Interesting sounds but is it music? I have always known the definition of music to be "organized sound" (thus rap music is music). But is randomized sound music? I tend to think not. With the increase of technology, I see the effect of freezing the digits into less movement. Every demo I see on this type of synth has fingers frozen on the keys without much movement. Yea it's fun to listen to different sounds but they are just sounds. Where's the movement, phrasing, melody (not arpeggiations), orchestration, and human technique? I love synths but are we degrading as artists with their advancement?
@Waveformer3 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question. My personal take on that is that it’s very much up to the listener what is perceived as music and what gives a good listening experience. I certainly do not get better at piano improvisation by doing jams like this. For me, it’s more about exploring the instruments and what they are capable of, and doing live sound design and mixing. And that’s very different from playing a piano piece live. But I do both, just not always at the same time :-). The wave sequences and the arpeggiator is an integral part of the Wavestate synth, so for me it’s interesting to explore how to use those features in a musical context. The genres Ambient and Berlin School relies on repetition and subtle changes in evolving the sounds, so it’s a nice genre for experimenting with live sound design.
@alan933 жыл бұрын
@@Waveformer Definitely agree with the last line. And designed sounds can become music when organized, IF we don't settle on the mere designing of the sounds. Music doesn't have to be complex either. The world is full of "silly love songs" and other basic piano chord progressions that people love.
