Thanks for sharing! I would have had no idea how to do this. It's still a complicated process. Wonder why Korg made it so hard to create a sequence.

Qui Thank you always for your excellent tutorials. Thanks to your tutorials one can actually get to use the Wavestate. 👍 Why did Korg make sequencing on this brilliant machine so cumbersome and time consuming ? I’m sure many would be put off buying the Wavestate just fir this. What’s wrong with just holding the step and punching the note from the keyboard. ? Hope they rethink Wish they had a play and Rec button, after all each of the 7 lane has its own sequencer. Korg just made the whole architecture so archaic Guys its 2022

Useful shortcut: while working on a single step, you dont need to limit the loop to A1. Press Enter and step button and it will start blinking - that step will now loop and u will be able to edit it as you wish. You can also create a chain of steps to preview by using the same shortcut.

Thanks for keeping it simple. Everyone else seems to jump straight into modulating multiple layers at once and such. What’s bothering me is that the way I think, by setting loop to A1-A1, I should only be hearing the kick. With A2 being snare, to me at least, loop would have to be set to A1-A2 to hear kick followed by snare. This really effs me up. Sidenote, it also sets me off that manufacturers have an ‘Init’ option that doesn’t seem to really be initialization at all. Can i please just get a blank canvas? It’s hard on a newb to have to actually undo a few things to actually start from scratch. On the wavestate, I swear I’m still hearing an LFO or something I can’t seem to get rid of. But yea, just give me a totally blank init with no crossfade, timing, sample, and weird modulation I can’t identify built in. I’d create it myself, but can’t figure out if I can actually fully eliminate anything after the first step

think of it as every lane is a step sequencer on it's own. In the sample layer you have two samples (so a loop length of 2), if you only want the kick then set the loop length of the sample layer to 1 instead of 2. The other lanes (which are also step sequencers) can have different loop lengths. Now why is this convenient? Well for instance you can create a hi hat pattern of 4 hits (sample lanes with 4 sample slots and a loop length of 4). Now create a shape lane with different shapes and set that lane to 5. Assign the shape lane to the sample lane and now you have constantly changes hi hats due to the fact that you created a 5 steps shape lane. This is called a Polymeter, you can also do the same with polyrythms and all these concepts can be assigned to modulation destinations. This really is a fantastic feature that you can have al those separate step sequencers lanes with different loop lengths. I agree on the init performance, it would have made more sense if that was completely blank instead of having already assigned modulations without knowing those modulations.

Thanks a lot for this tutorial and all the others. Just wondering for the trick of re-triggering the filter to get multiple notes. Would we have the same thing if we know simply copy five times the samples in the sample lane? Or is there a difference?

Wow, 15 minutes to create an eight note sequence? I was thinking of getting one of these, but not sure if it's worth it to just swap around the factory samples. Seems like programming new sequences is archaic. Great tutorial tho!
@quirobinez
@quirobinez 3 жыл бұрын
Once you know how to do i, it takes around 30 to 60 seconds to create an eight note sequence, i’ve slowed down the process for the tutorial to explain how to do it, but if i do it for my own performances it takes less then a minute. So don’t worry, it’s not hard to do

If you're not opposed to using a software interface, Korg just released a firmware update and programming software for the Wavestate. I agree, a bit too much menu digging for me, but the new software should make programming this kind of stuff much easier. I'm thinking of getting a Wavestate now, had previously held off for the same reason as you.

It would be a great synth if you could just play a sequence in real time. Doing it that way just loses interest for me.
