The strings on the 01w/fd are still in my opinion yet to be beaten. I've had mine since 1992 from brand new and I have replaced two screens. The electric pianos and organs are also brilliant. The reason for the 01/w/fd's greatness is its sampling frequency which is only 32Khz so the board has a very warm sound. The pianos and strings are amazing, only my opinion I hasten to add. If you ever get your hands on string patch called 'La Mer' make sure you save it forever! I also have 2 sets of patches by Victor (can't remember his surname now, Corello is it?). This board was WAY!! ahead of its time and nothing came close imo. Some of the COMBI's e.g 'Death Star' still sound flipping awesome!
@AaronONeill4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the warmth out-of-the-box due to the sampling frequency is really interesting and has proven to work well! Some of the sounds on this things are really incredible, but I have to say the piano sounds are not that great (in my opinion). I can hear all kinds of digital artifacts and distortions in all the piano samples. Try out a Nord Piano or Stage and you'll see what I mean.

@@tecladoessencialoficial9443the preload piano programs are the best I've found for the 01/W - I never felt the need to edit them, but the multisample itself has some issues. It's a very low-quality pitch-shifted version of the 2MB piano sample found in the 01/W Pro, T1, T3EX, X2, and N1.

Your one of those people I could listen to for hours , real genuine and no big ego attitude , thanks for a genuine warts an all video , got a chance of one of these locally for £300 so was just checking out , was thinking of using it to record backing tracks on it to play along to instead of using my complicated Tascam dp32 , just use the sequenser on the 01
@AaronONeill7 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, first of all thanks for the compliment, I'm really glad you like the video! I hope it gives some insight into what these can do. If I were you I would keep an eye on what these are going for in the UK, and decide if 300 quid is worth it for you. Also I would add that while these do have a sequencer on board and you can do some nifty things all without a computer or other gear, I would not describe it as intuitive or fast to use in this day and age of software. I have heard good things about 'Band in a Box' for example, some hardcore jazz guys find it good for complex arrangements and it's rather low cost. I personally have been using the DAW 'Ardour' on Linux in the past for backing tracks / composition / mixing, but will be using Bitwig Studio going forward (not cheap but definitely worth it). I don't know the Tascam DP32 unfortunately, so I don't have an opinion there. Good luck though, and let us know what you end up doing!

Unfortunately I dont have the keyboard anymore, had to sell when moving country, so I can't tell you exactly. But I did invest some time in the user manual and got quite good at editing patches to sound the way I wanted. VERY worthwhile for tweaking a good preset or starting something from scratch and getting the right sounds and making use of the joystick and aftertouch.

@AaronONeill3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no I don't. I used the floppy disk for settings backup, probably you could save all your songs in midi format onto disk too, just guessing. Another option might be plugging the midi out of the keyboard into your computer, press play on your saved song on the keyboard and recording the midi events in the DAW as it plays. Again, just a guess, not sure if it will work.

Is there any way I can adjust it and make it sound like a normal piano even though it's not a piano it's a keyboard. Thanks
@AaronONeill6 жыл бұрын
If you don't have any interest in the current sounds, I would suggest using the factory presets which have 2 nice piano sounds in the combi modes. You can get the factory presets back by re-initialising the keyboard: With the Korg 01 off, press and hold the 'Compare' + 'Reset' buttons -> turn on the keyboard while holding -> wait until "A00 Init Combi" is displayed -> release the buttons. The pianos you should now have on A01 and B01.

Hey Aaron . . Thanks for the video on the Korg 01WFd. I've had one of these for a few years now awaiting some TLC. I gotta say, you are the master of understatement when you say you've done a "bit of work" on the board. Sounds like you've done a very comprehensive strip down and replaced pretty much all the vulnerable parts . . very impressive!! Mine is suffering from the common "sticky keys" issue and a very low level back light. How much of a job was it to get to the key bed and the display panel? Also, as I remember, a couple of the switches did need a good shove to get 'em registering. Where did you you get any replacement switches from please. Any help advice you can give to (re) inspire me would be very much appreciated . . it really has got some stunning sounds and a beautiful playing action. Cheers

The Korg Kronos piano sounds don't sound anymore modern than the 01W/FD's
@AaronONeill2 жыл бұрын
Oh really? I don't know if that's a good indicator for the 01W quality or a bad indicator for the Kronos 😅 The piano sounds are not my favourite on the 01W, but that's by today's standards.

@@AaronONeillyou gotta find the 01/W Piano/Keyboard card set. there's a nice 2MB Acoustic Piano sample that sounds pretty good. It's hard to find, but it's worth it if you can find PCM card. BTW the statement about the Kronos Pianos... not sure what OP was thinking, Kronos Pianos are extremely realistic. 01/W's preload piano was mediocre even by 1991 standards. Hi heniekien sese, there's a silver sticker on the back of the 01WFD and it has the voltage written on it, underneath the serial number. Mine has 230v, I'm guessing yours has 110v. The point is these aren't using transformers which can take a range e.g. 110-240v. It sounds like your keyboard has been very unfortunately toasted, but there is a chance you could get it repaired. Stories like this would not be uncommon to a repair guy with some years experience. Good luck mate!
