If I get a big production of olives this year again I’ll do a video on that I use salt and water, instead of using lime. It is a lot longer process

@@ZaatarGardens Good things, often the best things, take time. I'd _love_ to see a video about salt curing olives.

This variety is not for table use.

Moses, some day when you get some good harvests, would you do a taste comparison on your olives?

Whats scale i have two young trees and they dont seem to be growing very much but still seemingly healthy
@ZaatarGardens2 жыл бұрын
Scale are little insects that suck juices out of the tree and nutrients. the number one thing to check if you see black ants going up and down the tree if you see that there’s a problem.
@TheRealFourFifths2 жыл бұрын
No little ants but have been covered in a powdery white substance since i got them i assume thats like a normal defense for the olive tree?

I have a variety of different olive trees, they all have had infestations of scale. The ants love the scale. They tend to it and spread it. When the trees are young and still small it is easy enough to just rub the scale off with my fingers. It takes some time to find all of the scale on a tree but it is simple to do. It seems that after the initial infestation and subsequent rubbing the scale off with my fingers that the amount of scale I find on the same tree is much less in the years that follow. I have found branches completely encrusted for a foot with solid scale. The scale sucks the juice right out of the branch and if left alone it will kill the branch. But I think there must be some kind of predator bug that follows the spread of the scale and eventually keeps up with the scale and controls it. Kind of like wolves finding a new food source, they multiply as the food source permits. I have also sprayed the scale with a solution of dish soap and water ( about 1 Tablespoon Palmolive dish soap with a quart of water), it kills the scale by drying them out. The scale starts to fall off in a week or two. Only use the green Palmolive, do not use the pink Vitamin E enriched Palmolive which will make all the leaves fall off which happened on a sopota(Sue Bell Sapota) tree I sprayed with the pink dish soap. The sapota tree survived but it took awhile for the leaves to grow back.

I've always wondered, are olives naturally salty or do we only think of them as salty because they're always cured with salt?
@ZaatarGardens5 жыл бұрын
They really have no taste but if eaten raw some could be very bitter
@kornaros963 жыл бұрын
This variety is only for oil production. For table use look at Kalamata.
@ZaatarGardens3 жыл бұрын
Any olive can be eaten, it’s for oil production mainly because it’s so oily one of the highest.
