►About the Game -
Knowledge is power. By a sudden circumstance, everything you read and learn becomes true in front of your eyes. When a gruesome verse written on a wall in blood turns into reality, do you want to keep reading? Knowledge is painful.
Korpus is a first-person horror game in which you have been sent to evaluate an abandoned house in Eastern Europe as a real estate agent. Uncover the houses past as you learn what horrors it hides.
Features
The house changes based on the things you know. You just learned that the dark hallway has one more door in it and a vengeful ghost is coming after you? There is now.
The game is an unconventional horror game perceived from the first perspective. There is no combat - all the monsters must be dealt with indirect means, either by avoiding, hiding or something cleverer.
The ghosts lurking in the dark corners of the house work
in different ways. Some are hostile, some or not, but only one thing is clear: they will not make your journey to the source of the madness any easier.
In order to solve the secrets of the house, you need to figure out how the house works. Is one specific bookshelf in your way and need it to disappear? Read a note that contradicts its existence.
ATTENTION: The game requires .NET 3.5 framework to work properly.

Realtor friends, do not go around reading weird notes! But really, I had never seen a game that used notes so effectively. I'm really impressed by how they turned them into a game mechanic. I love stories about houses that keep changing, because they are so disorienting and unsettling, but when the real story behind it was revealed, it just hit hard. I was left speechless, it's such a well executed game on a subject that is a real life horror that feels so close right now.

Not going to lie, I feel the need to make a bunch of unsettling notes. and leave them all around the houses of my sister, mother and wife, then go fishing for the weekend...... Actually I better not knowing those 3 they will have Seal Team Six and Delta Force out looking for me by Sunday!

This game felt like a cautionary tale in view of what's currently happening in Ukraine. The message, "those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," came through loud and clear. The use of notes to move the game forward through an ever-changing map made it compelling to uncover that message and the story of the Holodomor genocide. All-in-all, it was well-done, imo. Thank you for reading all the notes, Chris--I hope you had a hot cuppa with honey and lemon afterward to soothe your throat.

@@Scriptor13 Well, in Ukrainian SSR the rulers were ukrainians. My grangrandparents told that ukrainian political rulers made a hunger. In Ukraine we love fakes and lies, for us na***sts are great heroes who fought against Stalin🤷‍♀️ Modern ukrainian children have no idea that Bandera k****d thousands of "wrong" ukrainians. Bandera is a hero now, his portrait may be seen in Governmental buildings. Did UN or any other World Community condemned na***sts of Ukraine? Nope))) I don't trust lies and liers.

I really enjoyed this, it was a clever game mechanic to explore a very dark subject. I recognised the girl in the video thumbnail as the holodomor memorial in Kyiv (there have been a couple of news articles about it recently) so I guessed where the game was going but it was an intriguing exploration of the subject. Thank you for another great video!

Excellent, really enjoyed it. It's always great to see how devs tackle difficult, painful and true/historical themes, while still making a good game. I do have a little counter to CJU's "too much reading" complaint; that seems to be more of an issue for a YT-er who, by nature of his profession, is 'required' to read notes and such _out loud_ , than a failure of game mechanics. Especially since the majority of the notes were quite short, they all contained (mechanical) progression triggers, and many were story progression. OK, granted, for those "I don't read squat" gamers, it was too much, since progression depended on it, but everything is not for everyone. I did appreciate that the notes were very well written, though, as well as the balance of the game as a whole. The threat/chase sections were good, and just often and long enough to retain interest while slowly revealing the horror of the real historical event at its core. So I had an enjoyable experience, and I learned something that I heretofore knew nothing about. Can't go wrong with that! Thanks for playing and sharing, CJU!

A very sad thing the famine in 1932-33 was caused by a sudden heatwave and drought in 1931. All while Stalin was collectivising agriculture in the Ukrainian S.S.R. and displacing the kulaks (the wealthy petit-bourgeoisie peasantry) from their privileged place in society they had enjoyed since the implication of the New Economic Plan. The kulaks in rage butchered all their animals, burned their crops, and destroyed their farm machinery to prevent them from being collectivised. The famine also affected the Lower Volga region of the Russian S.S.R., and the western Kazakh S.S.R. The photos normally associated with the "Holodomor" are of a famine, but of a famine that occurred in 1921 afflicting the same areas. The hunger killed about 3 or 4 millions Ukrainians. Rest in Peace. The facts of the "Holodomor" was either grossly exaggerated or made up by reports of the William Randolph Hearst newspaper empire. An American tycoon who was a fervent supporter of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. The journalist Gareth Jones had a supper with Joseph Goebbels before his trip in to Russia, and he never went close to the Ukrainian S.S.R. The central government in Moskva didn't hear about the destitution at first due to extremely poor communication links to the rest of the U.S.S.R. It had been only 12 years since the end of the Russian Civil War and Intervention. When they did hear, though, the official in charge of agriculture was sacked and all available grain was diverted and shipped in to the desperate areas. Rest in Peace.

Think about what is happening to our economy recently. Russia didn't do this to us, but if you wish to believe that, then fine, it won't affect my point here. Besides inflation, I'm sure many of you have noticed the shelves going bare at grocery stores, and you might have even noticed some clever display tactics to make the shelves appear more full than they are. There are multiple reasons for our food supplies dwindling: inflation, including cost of fuel to transport goods to the stores, manufacturers having less workers, and some manufacturers temporarily closing, and some even just going out of business all together. If things continue like this, it won't be long before nothing is left on the shelves to eat. Look how most people treated toilet paper! We had two different incidences of being informed that there was a toilet paper shortage, and look how savaged people became in their attempts to stock up on toilet paper. Hell, I said screw that, whether the shortage was authentic or manufactured it did not really matter, for it was difficult for me as well to acquire toilet paper anywhere. So, I just installed a bidet. Problem solved! Yet, if food disappears from the shelves, how many of you have a solution for that? Do you have plenty of stored food? Do you have your own garden? A farm?? There may soon come a time when the dollar is worth so little that it will require a wheelbarrow full of bills to pay for a single loaf of bread, at which point those bills will be more valuable as toilet paper than actual currency. Yet, the scary thing is that if a group of humans are cut off from all supplies of food, it only takes about seven days before they will resort to cannibalism . . . and I'm not talking, "Bob died this morning, let's chop him up and get a nice fire going." No, I'm talking people hunting people, out to kill somebody to eat!!! Seven days!!!!
@RR-on4sk
@RR-on4sk 2 жыл бұрын
Even people in worse situations didn't start eating human flesh after just a week! Adult humans can survive an est 2 months without eating. Having body fat helps too, so I'd say half the country has at least a month of fat on them to use up before having a normal BMI . 2 of my family members just died while on hospice and still made it 3 weeks on a bite of food and only drops of water -- and that was with cancer. You're not wrong about how bad it could get though if food dwindles on the shelves, but it would never go to all out crazy cannibalism in a week, just because a minority of people were nasty over toilet paper. Even the kids that crashed in that airplane didn't start hacking up people a week in. Nor did the donner party. Usually they waited at least a few weeks before even considering that. And that was with NO other food options at all. Interesting fact: cannibalism rarely helps the survivors if they are eating other starved people. Our bodies need fat in our diets to extract the nutrients from food. No fat means a waste of a meal. I will say it is a good plan to start thinking of survival. Grow some foods, learn some things. Between wars and climate disasters, we could see a global panic. Ok the other hand, don't want to become a crazy prepper either though -- #1 would people really want to live in a ruined world? Say a nuclear disaster area? I rather not. #2 I think a lot of the crazy preppers would be their own undoing because they have a target on their backs. You'd need a mini community for support. preppers tend to be isolationists and paranoid. Can only do so much alone. Point being; while there's concerns, if something that big happens, most of us will be in trouble and there's little sweating about it today because there's only so much you can prepare for. Just be smart with money, buy in bulk, get some nature books, and see what happens. .

Hey thanks for making this and attracting attention by your own means. Long time viewer it actually means a lot given circumstances. Double thumbs by figuring out how to not be political about it. I seldom check back to see if there's a response because I'm a nobody. So please don't feel obligated to respond.

Yep, especially during WW2 when Western Ukraine was collaborating nazists and killed thousands of "wrong" ukrainians. They are heroes (nazists) nowadays. It's sad how our minds are f***up.

there was no genocide. there were stupid and ill-conceived economic decisions that caused tragedy. of course, this fact doesn't make the consequences less horrible, but there is still a valuable difference.

I'm surpised this game was made by guys from Finland from what I see in the credits. Good touch on the subject. As for the game it make a good effort to tell about such a gruesome part of Soviet history and in my opinion it did very well. It gave rights both for the victims, the view of perpatrators (in some extent) and, what I think it's most appreciated - the memory about the events hidden by the journalist and digged up by the proffesor. I will only add my personal thoughts. There are two recognized schools on how to approach the Holodomor. Is it a question of genocide to kill as many ukrainians as Stalin wished or a crime against humanity like bombing Hiroshima, Atlantic slave trade or Soviet Great Purge. I'm personaly in favor of the school that it was a crime against humanity brought to people by Stalin's idiotic and unforgiving economic policy that cause millions to starve and forever associate communism stereotypes with hunger.

@@tyfyh622 I do read a lot. And I didn't said that Holodomor didn't existed I just don't say it was a genocide. And even Wikipedia, as you have mention it, have a whole page called "Holodomor genocide question". I also do have some points why I see it as a crime against humanity and not a proper, scientifically labeled, genocide but I don't see a reason to discuss it under the game. I have just given my personal thought about this.

@@BASSOSOVIETICO1987 your personal thought? - Based on what? I don't want to know what books you read if they didn't have a simple natural cause + unkulakization in them. And you're being an idiot if you think that this only happened to ukraine people, which cancels all the notion of genocide, if simple logic isn't proof enough. Do please humor me and read about other nations who lost up to 40% of the whole population and then go cry that ukraine got the worst of it. or don't. I don't care. Just don't spread fakes

I'm of two minds on this one. On the one hand, it does an absolutely phenomenal job covering a forgotten part of history in which Russia committed genocide against the people of Ukraine (if that sounds topical, well... the more things change, the more they stay the same). The writing, the atmosphere, the level design, the way they changed the level while you were reading notes, this game DEFINES the concept of doing more with less. The pacing, on the other hand... it does feel like it took a LONG time to get where it was going and some sections of the game stretched out far longer than they needed to.

When the Ukrainian S.S.R. (an administrative portion) was illegally broken off from the Soviet Union during its slow Conquering, and after, the period of darkest reaction set in caused by the "country's" national bourgeoisie to denigrate, smear and bury deep the achievements of the world's first socialist state. Lies and exaggerations originally put out by the Third Reich's Propaganda Ministerium. There is a infamous volume called "The Black Book of Communism" where its three authors actually honestly tried to inflate and invent the total numbers of people killed by socialist governments. They strived to arrive at the figure of 100 millions killed. Two of the authors have since distanced themselves from the work. The methodology included poor citizens killed by the Nazis during the Nazi-Soviet War of 1941-45, and the children those people could have gone to have if they had lived.
