Always love to find someone who understands Korra and her story. This was an amazing video, you did a wonderful job detailing what depression feels like without directly calling it that. Describing Korra's sense of emptiness and her absolute struggle with mental illness. It is something that unfortunately gets lost on a lot of people, that they don't notice S1 Korra is hot-headed and her eyes are full of excitement where in S4 her eyes are darker, less hopeful, and she tries to use her words and wisdom before resorting to her fists.
@CinemaOverAnalyzed

The mental struggle that Korra goes through is a lot more subtle, than let's say Zuko, but it's an important story that is very beautifully complex. I remember watching this show for the first time when I was going through a dark time in my life...it gave me hope. It helped me believe that I was going to come out of it wiser than I was before! I knew I would never be the same, but it helped me understand myself better...Isn't that what life is all about? Korra is a wonderful character! I really wish people would look past her hot-headedness...or the love triangle, and see her more as a well-rounded character, who learns from her past mistakes and grows a little wiser with every passing Book!

It's because of content creators like e;r making hate videos that take things out of context and leave out all resolution to convince people that she's a terrible character and the show is trash. It makes me mad, because it convinces so many people and almost none of them are willing to listen to reason when you try and tell them that e;r is full of it

@CinemaOveranalyzed Imho, Korra was always compassionate and from day one she was more than willing to help others so I always find it strange it seems like it's implied she was not a compassionate person- she definitely was but I think her main character flaws was her naivete and not necessarily arrogance as she lived her whole life in isolation and had no real freedom, or concept what real life was like, hence her child like and impulsive nature.
@marktwayne9796

@@tierefuerimmer9635 Exactly. That line to Kuvira in the finale made me so mad. She was sympathetic to Tahno when he lost his bending despite their bad history, she also felt sorry for Tarrlok and considered letting him go from Amon after he kidnapped and attacked her. Even though Eska and Desna were antagonizing her in the series as well, she expressed regret she couldn't save Unalaq in the end. She already was very compassionate even to her villains.

Korra is my favorite character of the show, hands down, her flaws make her so human, she is a strong headed characters who got beat humility into her, she made mistakes and learn from them, she struggle even more than Aang ever did in the original Avatar show, Korra flaws and weakness along with her strengths is what made her such an enduring and likable (and unlikable at times) character, I miss her so much and I hardly can't wait for the day the Korra film of avatar studios bring her back with hopefully all her strengths and weakness and a little more wise along her way.

For me, as the series continued, I’d found that Korra became so much more relatable. Not that she wasn’t relatable in the early seasons as well, she absolutely was; I know what being hotheaded, brash, and generally just not wanting to ask for help is like, and I certainly felt for her. But in Book Three and especially Book Four, she taught me quite a number about the importance of mental health and compassion. It was such a beautiful story to witness and experience. Korra absolutely does not deserve the hate she gets. Seeing her learn how to become more human actually made me cry a lot, because it showed me that it’s a long process for quite literally everyone. And goodness, is it beautiful to find out what comes of it. This series will always have a special place in my heart alongside ATLA. Does it reeeeeeeeeally matter which one of them is better?? I personally don’t think so. I may be a year late (I’m sorry! 😭) but thank you so much for this video. I greatly appreciated seeing a video that explains Korra in a beautiful way ♥️

Hello there! I do tend to agree that Korra showcases the more valuable side of the hero's journey. It's better at showing the personal struggles that plague all of us. However, I do think that Aang's story serves great importance as well. Showing that men can be sensitive and understanding. Rather than the typical male protagonist that we saw in the other early 2000s works. Think Ben 10 or American Dragon: Jake Long.

honestly on a surface level its easy to dislike korra. i think most people can agree that we sometimes look back on our childhood/adolescence with a little embarrassment. we've all grown a lot over the years and we would rather see the end result of that growth rather than the process to get there. korra in the early seasons epitomizes this embarrassing childhood stage, and so we subconsciously associate the character with negative emotion. after moving past this its easier to like her character throughout the show because you can appreciate the significance of her mistakes and how they help build her identity.

Korra let me in tears, no other show (with real actors or animated) letted me tear-up and it's one of my favourite character in all the fiction(top 3) ATLA and LOK are just perfect for me but in different ways that's all. the whiplash that comes with the b1/b2 transition sequence with the animation lol. but also, yes! very well thought out, as was the previous video of yours i saw; the beach episode one. also sarcasm is fun. i appreciate characters like mako and korra but sometimes you gotta dunk on them. or maybe dunk on the love triangle sub-plot. eh im rambling but either way, nice to have a little roadmap showing korra's growth because it is definitely substantial. she goes from having her chronic hero syndrome-type thing cause her to put herself above others and feel that she IS the one to save people and WILL and gets a bit of an ego to being detrimentally self-sacrificing. its an interesting progression, and i am interested to see if the recently leaked possible movie will deal with stuff like that

I do like Mako and Korra, but I like them more when they both find their footing in Book 4. Like in Reunion. They butt heads, but they mean well. Whereas, when they were a couple...they gave me A LOT of anxiety. They were just way too similar. It's okay to ramble...I mean when on a tangent as well...haha! I wish people could see how much this changes through her story. She's a very interesting individual, who learns from the people around her to better understand herself and the world around her! If they made a movie on Korra I really wish they keep more of her compassionate side. In the comic, they kind of went back on her progress a little bit making her a little too impulsive.

I agree with you that the Legend of Korra is a little more subtle in how it likes to go about things. There is no starting conflict that forces Korra's hand. It is more about how the Avatar's duties evolve as times change. I do like the more mature themes, sprinkled in there. That's a very interesting point about the love triangle. At this point, I feel like this trope is overdone, but I can some people relate to that. As for Book 2, I'm going, to be honest, I hated it when it first came out, but it started to grow on me over time. What I love about book 2, is it understands what when wrong in Book 1 and put it to rest. It stops following the steps of Aang and company and learns that Korra can be her own person. This is a great lesson to learn! I may do a full video on how Book 2 changed the feel of Legend of Korra later on...haha! P.S. Movie may set up as to how Azula will be going forward in the future.

That awesome! What if it's like Zuko Alone? Where it still takes place after Smoke and Shadow, but there are flashbacks to that gap time after The Search? We'll just have to wait to see. I will definitely be chatting about this novel on the channel once it comes out!

You want to have Korra awaken her spiritual side at the end of season 1? Well here’s a crazy idea. What if she remembered that oh yeah, I already kinda connected with Aang once when I was in prison, maybe I should try that again? Would have showed a bit more agency on her part. Book 1 was suppose to be about Korra willingly giving spirituality a chance, was it not?

@@CinemaOverAnalyzed The shows kinda answers that question with all the instances where Aang and Korra meditate and focus hard enough until some sort of weird magic happens. I think it’s also worth pointing out that Korra never really learns how to reconcile her need to be needed as the avatar. There’s almost always a threat that only she usually has the best chance of beating. It would be pretty good growth and maturity on her part if she learned to be content with the fact that the world doesn’t always need to revolve around her in that way. I kinda thought that was the direction they were going at the end of season 3 where Korra’s upset when she gets told they can handle things without her.

@@solarking952 "if she learned to be content with the fact that the world doesn’t always need to revolve around her in that way." She never thought the world revolved around her, only that she was destined to maintain peace and balance. And the events of the series proved that the world actually needs the Avatar more than ever because it's entering a new age.

@@solarking952 No. It's an issue of duty. It IS the Avatar's duty to deal with situations like the uprisings in the Earth Kingdom. It's what Korra was literally born to do.

So…someone called Korra a horrible role model for kids?
@CinemaOverAnalyzed
@CinemaOverAnalyzed 2 жыл бұрын
I can understand why people would think that. In Book One she is very brass. However, I do feel like people write her off too quickly, not fully seeing the growth that's there. I wish people would stop judging her based on assumptions, and take a deeper look into her story. It's truly beautiful if people give it chance =)

@@CinemaOverAnalyzed I agree! Rant incoming. There is one thing that genuinely annoys me about the arguments against Korra. People forget that Bryke made her a “stereotypical teenager” on purpose. Think about it, she’s impulsive, rebellious, and hyper emotional and hotheaded-hence why we first see her firebending. Now, I want to clarify, I don’t think Korra represents actual teenagers-in fact many scientists call teen rebellion a myth. However, I still think Bryke were…on to something when they made that choice. Characters like Korra have a “degree of truth to them” even if they don’t fully represents real teens. For example, I saw Korra book 1 in high school. Back then, I was the furthest thing from a rebel. I was a socially awkward dork who got good grades, followed the rules to a tee, respected his elders, the works. So I was in no position to relate to Korra. However, I thought she was the coolest person on the damn planet, and I thought all of her emotions made sense. Here’s why. All teens, including the well behaved ones, live under the iron fist of adult authority. While it it silly to assume all teens rebel, it’s not stupid to suppose all teens “ emotionally buckle under” the weight of adult authority at some point in their lives. That’s why teens can relate to Korra’s frustration with Tenzin even if they get along with the adults in their lives. As an adult, it’s so easy to dismiss Korra’s frustration or her rebelliousness as bratty or selfish because you’ve forgotten what it feels like to live under adult authority, you’ve forgotten what it’s like to be a teenager. When you’re a teen however, her emotions feel way more valid and real.

I'm very sorry for not replying sooner. I've been a little busy the past couple of days. Korra's character reminds me of Ahsoka from Clone Wars. I know she's an icon now, but people kind of hated her guts at the beginning of the series. She was very much like Korra very childish and self-centered. Both girls were written to be that way for a reason. To showcase a slow and lengthy story of maturity. I feel like Korra gets so much hate because her show came at the wrong place at the wrong time. Legend of Korra came out around 2012 which was when movies like The Hunger Games were popular. The market was already saturated with female leaders. That I think people just wrote Korra off as another Katniss Everdeen. When in reality she is a lot more layered than people gave her credit for. I believe if The Legend of Korra came out in the early 2000s or today I think people would have respected her more. I remember watching The Legend of Korra when it premiered, I don't think I had a huge attachment to Korra off the bat as you did. But I was intrigued by the story that it was trying to tell. It wasn't until Book 4 that I truly related to Korra and the personal traumas she had to overcome. This show did a remarkable job at showcasing mental health. Sure bending comes easy to her, but mentally she's her own worst enemy. Which is relatable to anyone. I would agree that Korra shows what it feels like to be a teenager. She also teaches us the power of vulnerability. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts =)

@@CinemaOverAnalyzed Funny you say that cause this person called Ahsoka a horrible role model too. Coincidently, I also thought Ahsoka was the coolest person on the damn planet when I first saw the clone wars movie as a 12 year old. It’s interesting you bring up Katniss because a lot of adult reviewers at the time liked her a lot.

So sick of these chicks taking shots at Mako for being a human being but hate on people that take shots at Korra for the same thing. Honestly, I don't hate Mako. The comment was more of a sarcastic comment to make fun of the whole love triangle situation altogether. To quick summaries it in a light-hearted way. I was not trying to hate on Mako. I could have reworded the comment to better poke fun at the situation and I'm very sorry for that. His character is a very interesting one that has a lot of growth from Book One to Four! However, I do have to say that Mako and Korra are better as friends than as a couple. Their personalities are just too similar. With that being said, Mako is a good boyfriend to Korra. She is the toxic party in the relationship. Kicking over his desk and threw a stuffed animal in his face. That is not okay behavior for anyone! When it comes to Asami, I do think that he should have broken it off sooner, but that's a mistake that anyone can make. I do feel bad for the guy for all the hate he gets. He is very funny when he is bodyguarding Prince Wu in Book 4! Do you have a favorite Mako moment?
