i'm attempting to turn my wadrobe into two parts, spring/summer - light academia and cottage core; autumn/winter - dark academia, light academia and a touch of goth. Feels like too much but also it's so hard to imagine it any other way. I've tried the minimalist mentality and capsule wardrobe but it doesn't work with my identity. I literally collect books and (very specific aesthetically cohesive) merchandise.

I love this!! Honestly, that doesn’t sound like too much to me. I’m one of those people who loves the idea of minimalism but knows that I will never be a minimalist. I’m a through and trough maximalist. I just love trying out new styles and am such a collector of knickknacks!

I've been working on creating seasonal capsules as well as a capsule of basics I use year-round that work with the seasonal capsules (~30 pieces each). I like to pack away out of season capsules so that each season I only have easy access to that season's capsule and my year-round wear.

I like how you approach this style with a personalized color palette. I've been contemplating a "medium acadamia" look because super light or dark colors aren't my favorite on me.

I love that! I always try to view it as the aesthetic working for me, not me working for it.

Finally a video that's helpful. Thanks!

This is easily the most helpful and informative video on this style that I've seen. Definitely also love that you show that one doesn't need to be a super skinny Pinterest model to look 100% gorgeous in this style! Me personally, I take the basics and mix them with romantic elements, fabrics like silk, velvet and lace, antique-looking jewelry (brooches, lockets, tie pins, bracelets, rings, necklaces, not necessarily gold) and colors like seafoam green, vanilla, the whole range of purples etc to create my own style, which I like to think of as "Wildean academia".
@GlitterBug8 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! Also, I’m obsessed with how you incorporate other elements into your DA looks! It sounds dreamy!

@@GlitterBug Thank you so much! Honestly it happened almost by accident; I really like Dark Academia but the all-neutral palette just wasn't for me... Then I remembered that Wilde (who is my favorite author and a style icon) had gone to Oxford, which is one of the inspirations for the style, and broken a bunch of dress code rules because he liked pretty things too much. A week or so later I was gifted a vintage royal purple velvet blazer, and my brain sort of clicked, like "let's do this!" So I "broke the dress code rules" as well and found what seemed to be missing. "Dreamy" is exactly the word I'd want for it! 💖

I have Dark Academia/Romantic Goth for Autumn/Winter and Cottage/Gremlincore for spring and summer-or, I’m working on that! It’s taking time. 😊 (Not me also adding in some Lolita elements bc I love the aesthetic tone)

I am looking for a summer weight peplum blazer/jacket. It's a Victorian-ish look, but I think it looks for a Vintage librarian look.

I just got into Dark Academia fashion and I love all the outfits you wear and pick out in your videos. I've been shopping on Unique Vintage, Thred Up, and Yes Style. I also bought a really cute brown sweater on Amazon.

Great video, thank you! I already had a lot these things in black other dark colors in my wardrobe. Had no idea what dark academia was, but it really speaks to me, because, I already dress like that a lot. Btw, I think you have no idea what cold weather is. Just a joke from someone who lives in Baltic states, srry.

Haha, yeah I know what east coast North American cold is, but I can’t speak for the rest for the world.

@@GlitterBug I realised my comment came with a pinch of envy, because I got so exited that the fall finally came, but it suddenly became so cold I might as well just take my winter coat out. XD

I agree that your aesthetic should match your personality. I also think age needs to be taken into consideration. As a senior I like both the accademia and cottagecore looks but I need to take elements from them rather than fully embracing them or I can come across as trying to look too young.

Great video for a beginner like me :) Which shops do you recommend to find those type of items ? (Especially the long skirts) I don't have the option to buy in second hand shops nearby where I live...They are all oriented toward the 80-90s look 😔
@GlitterBug3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much! Most of my wardrobe is secondhand, so I’d definitely recommend online options like Poshmark, Thredup and Depop. Other than that, Aeropostale, Abercrombie and Target are three shops I’ve utilized to build my dark academia wardrobe!

I feel like especially your sweater collection you showed portrays your specific brand of dark academia - it kinda mixes with the aforementioned jewel toned jewel-core from your past video/videos.

Do you know any online stores to shop at for Dark Academia or any stores in General.🍂
@GlitterBug3 жыл бұрын
I mostly shop secondhand, so my go to is definitely Poshmark. I know that isn’t an option for everyone, though, so other stores I’ve had luck with are Abercrombie for plaid pants, Old Navy for Cardigans and Target for basics. Kohl’s also has a great selection of basics. I like the Liz Claiborne, Nine West and Alfred Dunner brands.

I really like loafers, but I think I'll get blisters or really sweaty feet in them. Any ideas on how to solve that issue?

Stick on heel pads could help with blisters! As for sweaty feet, half socks may help!

I've never thought about wearing sweater vests but I hardly see any when I'm at thrift stores. Maybe I can find a couple & try them. I don't like wearing clothes that show my behind or front area or my stomach (I'm a thick woman). I try to dress modestly to glorify my Lord Jesus Christ & my husband. I will occasionally wear jeans but I wear skirts more, I am trying to wear more skirts & dresses & slowly get rid of my jeans.
