Never Before Seen Worlds in Super Mario Bros! (Glitched Worlds #3)

Third entry in the glitched world series, this time with some new tools! Threecreepio made a cool hack that lets you select any world you like, so now we're not barred from going past certain points! This means we can truly access every possible level in the game. So, I decided to go where I'd never gone before, and pay 1-5 a visit... and we made it all the way to something like 1-111. Enjoy!

When I was a kid I used to own a fake NES. You know, the Chinese consoles that claims to have 10k games. Most of the menu consisted in the same repeated games, but I remember there were a ton of SMB levels listed as games. A lot of those "games" were unplayable, like the very first level on this video. Many others made the console crash. It's been a long time (20 years), so I hardly remember anything else.

This the first time I see anyone try any of the levels beyond a single world in years. The last time was with world 8 and they got up to level 8-54 if I recall correctly, but they never finished it. This is amazing! After all, there being 256, and them possibly having 256 level each (0-255), means the game is filled with 65536 levels.

Fun fact. Since Super Mario Bros. runs on 8-bit (00-ff) it contains 256 Worlds with 256 levels. To add onto that, each World has the same 256 levels, in the same exact order. Rather than each having a separate set of 256 levels. The only difference is they start from different stages.

I would mod Pokemon early gens and many other games to make all sorts of crazy stuff happen, really testing the limits of what you can do by editing the values going from all the range of values like you did. 15:21 I think that pipe works because entrances are world specific. So in glitch worlds there are no entrances defined for pipes, but since this is still technically world 1, and that pipe has an exit for world 1, it actually works. Still very cool to see a working warp in a glitch level.

Looking in SMB1 disassembly, it seems that the flagpole score follows the multistomp chain score, not the other way around: they specifically put in 5000, 2000, 800, 400, 100 for the flagpole scores, but multistomp scores just result from skipping every other number in *100,* 200, *400,* 500, *800,* 1000, *2000,* 4000, *5000,* 8000, *1UP.* It does this by adding the stomp chain counter to a timer that's incremented after the score is awarded. I haven't checked if this timer is a frame timer or an interval/framerule timer.

@Kosmic: The reason the end pipe worked in 1-snowfloor tile, the level was 1-2, that his underwater the pipe exit depends on two thing if it his the correct world number, if it his a pure water level, only in pure water levels if the incorrect enemies spond, the ending pipe will loop, to load the correct enemies, once the correct enemies are loaded the end pipe does not loop. If you don't believe try this glitch, if your in easy mode put it to 2 player, and get one player all the way to 7-2, and die on 7-2 at the begining of the level, then bring the other player all the way to 5-2, to do the die by hammer while climbing vine, so the vine will spond at the start of the pure water level 7-2, you will see enemies of 5-2 spond in 7-2 instead of the cheep cheep and blooper, and other random stuff that his not suppose to be their, and then when you go to the end pipe you start at the begining of 7-2, everything spond normal, you reach the ending pipe this time and you go to the end flag. Warp pipe that are on land under ground except for castle depend on the world number only, so they would still work even if the incorrect enemies would spond. So the minus world glitch that always loop if you used a game genie that prevent enemies from spooning, the ending pipe might lead you to another area that his not guarantee to have a flag pole assuming that the pure underwater level does not also used the correct World number to determine the exit of the end pipe.

3:22 The block that is not messed up is actually a sprite. I think the level is actually read from a table indexed out of bounds, so what you see here is actually RAM data. Hitting that block changed an address in RAM. 3:37 The entire ceiling is actually only 4 bytes of data, as question blocks, arrays of coin blocks, brick blocks, pipes and all of this stuff, so it's pretty simple to get one of these levels.
