They've said on in interviews that the purpose of Fool Us isn't necessarily the game part (the fool/non-fool), but giving magicians that wouldn't otherwise have the level of publicity they have to borrow their audience. The first time I saw this, I thought their reactions were hilarious as I was watching it, but when I learned the full story behind this, that this was a trick that THEY did a couple of months earlier on The Today Show and Kostya came up with a whole new way of doing it, that took it all to the next level. @bubbledoubletrouble
@bubbledoubletrouble Жыл бұрын
@@carlosvsiguejugando3102 OP’s comment also started with “the first time” that he saw it. Which means that OP wrote his comment after a second (or third, or later) viewing. So it’s entirely possible for OP to have seen this video, then later learn about Penn and Teller performing their version before Kimlat’s appearance on the show, and then write his comment. Also, there’s no contradiction with Penn and Teller performing before Kimlat *and* Kimlat inventing his trick. The result-have two cards reveal be flipped in a deck of cards that is all face up after a bunch of shuffling-can be the same but the *method* used to get to that result can be different, and Kimlat presented a method that is different than the one that the Duo used to achieve the same effect. EDIT: In fact, if you watch the clip on Kimlat’s second appearance, he *specifically* states that on his first appearance he performed an effect that Penn and Teller were familiar with using a method that they were not familiar with (because he invented it).

This effect is based on an old famous trick by Dai Vernon. It's famous because it's said to be the trick that fooled Houdini. Houdini said that after seeing any trick 3 times in a row he could figure it out and this one he couldn't. Kostya has an incredible method for such a powerful effect.

+Randy Sager I don't think he was mad, but I think he truly upset. When you're a magician of his magnitude, you're not suppose to be fooled that up close and personal. These guy are usually on the other end of the trick. You can see Penn keep staring at Kostya's hands. At a few spots, he face was only inches away. The fact that he couldn't catch it, that close, probably would have to bother him a little. But, I don't think it was anger. Of course, what he did was all for show and it was great, but I think it did bother him a little and what his reaction was just to point out just how good this guy's trick was.
@randysager3523
@randysager3523 8 жыл бұрын
Shakester71 That is incorrect and Penn we do injoy being fooled. Penn actualy isn't a magician he is Juggler by trade. Teller is the magician, Yes Penn does know quite a lot about magic now but again he really isn't the magician of the two. Everthing that he has learned he has learned for the most part from Teller. You can see when Teller is actually fooled or at least very impressed by the magicians skill as he was when David Roth was on the week before last. When we are fooled it doesn't bother us we are are quite happy when it happens since most magic effects that we see we do know how they work. Being fooled by a comrade in arms is a very looked forward to event. That is often way we attend magic conventions and can't wait to see certain magicians such as David Roth. Bill Malone. Paul Gertner, Juan Tamiriz. All of them can have and do fool other magicians quite often. Teller is one that can fool other magicians as well. Even when we know the method he will often throw in a little something that will throw other magicians off.

I've been involved with magic for 46 years, many as a performing professional. I have performed close-up, stage, parlor, animal, silk, coin, cards, rope, flowers, fire, black art, quick change, and grand illusion. I have worked as a performer, inventor, teacher, designer, producer, director, and promoter. I also have a huge magic library containing everything from the latest books and DVDs, to some of the oldest and rarest books in all of magic. I tell you all of that, not to brag, but to make a point. My knowledge of magic, and its secret methods, covering nearly every type of magic, is vast, and I have not been truly fooled by a magician, or a particular trick in about 35 years. For me, the "magic" was gone when it comes to watching magic being performed, BUT that changed when I saw this trick being performed. There are many ways of performing this trick, known as Triumph, and I thought I was familiar with them all, but I was wrong. This performance was a masterpiece of magical artistry. For the first time in 35 years I felt the magic and astonishment once again, and it was GREAT. Kostya has created what surely must be the cleanest and most beautiful Triumph presentation to date. Even The Professor would be fooled by this version, although he wouldn't want to admit it. Well done, Kostya. You have earned my highest respect.

of course, but this is what penn and teller do for a living. They also only watch the magicians hands and never their eyes etc. So it still seems a little bit weird that neither of them, being on the opposite side of the table actually notice that he flips some of the cards. just saying.

GizmoTheViking You see..I don't get your thinking behind this. Why have a show about magic? And then lie about th effects. I''m magician... I thought I knew every trick in the book. I was on a bus ride home one night. And guy saw me playing with my cards. And ask to do a trick for me. He did the trick for me. And I couldn't figure it out. And by the end of the ride. He told me how he did it. And it was one of most humbling magic moments in my life. It was super simple. I just couldn't see it. Houdini was fooled by Dai Vernon. With the most simplest trick you probably see. Every magician knows the trick. But imagine knowing a trick. I mean knowing all the different methods to a trick/effect. But someone comes along. And they level by level peel all the methods you think that are about to happen (especially a trick you just performed days ago). By they time, they have picked the cards. Both Penn and Teller have been desensitized. Even when Kostya leaves a card on the table. It's all part of the "peeling" (I think Teller notices it).

Every magician within the first year of learning magic knows triumph. The second you start the trick, every magician knows the punch line, but every magician also knows there are multiple ways to perform the trick. With this performance, there are two ways magicians react, summed up perfectly between these two. There are people like teller, who are giddy to see this new way of doing it, and there are people like Penn, who get annoyed with the fact that they should know how it's done, but no matter how close you watch, you won't be able to tell. That's why Penn was agitated from the moment the trick started. Masterfully done.

Teller may have caught it if he could've seen it, but kostya was turned towards Penn and holding the cards right in front of Penn so he couldn't see the edges. I think Kimlat sorted the deck as he was shuffling through them. He started sorting at 3:48 and finished around 4:02. The reason why he went through every single card was because he wanted to sort the cards into two piles: face up and face down. Then, at 4:05, he very slyly flips part of the deck over, resulting in all the cards being faced the same way besides P/T's cards. This is only a basic theory which didn't explain everything, but the amount of skill and sleight of hand required to pull this off while making it look like he isn't doing anything is inhumane.

However the original version of it is based on fake shuffles, something Kinlat makes more than clear he isnt doing (he went overboard on the shuffles to prove this point to Penn and Teller), and thats why Penn is so flustered, cause he should know what was going on but has absolutly no idea cause Kinlats method is completly different from how this trick was suposed to be done.

During face up and face down selection, he selects the face down cards with his other hand as he shuffles through them and pulls them out. Effectively separating the stack of face up and face down cards. He palms it or whatever during this. During the final reveal when he says "Now some cards are face up some cards are face down" you can see him flip the stack. I dont do magic though so I might be wrong. *shrugs* I assume this is how he does it because he specifically says he is a sleight of hands magician.
@BlokeOzzie
@BlokeOzzie 6 жыл бұрын
AVeryNormalGuy: Nope, you're right. While they are putting the cards back into the deck, he's already sorting the cards: Face down go between his fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand, face up cards between thumb and second. He keeps talking to distract and redirect their attention from the fact that he's doing it. It's "easy" to slip their cards into the "wrong" sorted stack then to keep them upside down while doing this, and as long as you keep your momentum going so they don't grok to the the method applied, it's effective. Just flip the bottom sorted deck half smoothly before the spread, and voila. The best tricks are often the simplest ones.

Tellers face up card was within a bunch of face up cards, and Penn's face down card was between a face down and face up card. Merely cutting the deck and flipping it wouldn't have accomplished the trick, they have no idea what else he did to pull it off. Going through the cards, he takes every facedown card with his right hand to the bottom. when they put in the card face up, it goes to the bottom face down half, when he puts it face down, it goes to the upper face up half. at the end he has 1 card in upper half facing down, and in the "hidden" face down half he has 1 face up card. now he only needs to flip the half and the 2 cards facing the same direction. which he does before laying the cards on the table.

When P and T are putting their cards back in and KK is going through the deck, is he sorting them into upside down and right way round and then their 2 cards? And then he does a little swivel with the 2 decks before putting them back together all the right way round except the 2 they gave him back?

Having showed all the cards mixed for the last time and just before placing the deck on the table, I noticed he did a little flip into the deck. Possibly separated all the face up cards while he fanned it and flipped them in at that moment?

Ok I have been practicing this like a lot. I still think it's amazing because I can't do it like he did. I'm not too shabby but it's evident he had to have done this many thousands of time and thousands of performance before getting to his level. His old videos from early 2000 with introduction from Michael Ammar shows he was awesome then but this performance really showcased his expertise and confidence from many performance. He was exuding confidence and evolved tremendously and that's likely because he's taken this around the world. Penn and Teller was just appetizer for him. Back to practice.

jay unitedwestand if u are that curious he explains it on his dvd back in 2000. Look up his name on magic shops. It’s impressive even after knowing because of the tremendous skill involved. The dvd shows a much younger version of himself. He was great then but u see his history. Cool guy. Performed at weddings and restaurants.

Ok, the backstory for this is hilarious. Ultimately P&T knew what he did - but he did it so clean they couldn't call him on it. They weren't so much 'fooled' as 'blown away' by technique that made Teller's hands look like mittens. Unbelievable - that guy must have spent thousands of hours running those cards.

There's a wonderful through line between the two Fool Us tricks you did that ties to what Penn describes as juggling in the second trick. This first trick is very much in line with that idea in the second trick, in that you actually DID the thing you said you did, right in front of them, and they, expecting a trick, didn't expect you to actually just do the thing, in real time, AS they were interacting with you and the deck. Absolutely exceptional performance I could just watch over and over.
