I have been performing full-time for over 20 years. But I don't really know many magicians personally. I just focus on my career. But I've seen a LOT of magicians' lecture on this subject. They are almost always a waste of time. But... Aside from Ken Webber's' book, "Maximum Entertainment", this talk is probably the most realistic advice and information I've ever heard.
