In this video I go over what I think are the top 11 biggest habits or Gary Moore. I may have missed a lot of things out because if I could make a big enough video, I'd be here all day. There's always more to talk of. Hopefully you take away some good things from this video and learn a few licks. As much as Gary is my biggest guitar influence, I can never attempt to sound exactly like him.

Man, you really nail the GM sound and licks. Thanks! If I could make a suggestion, PLEASE back your camera away enough to capture both hands. On the trilled pentatonic licks section, I'd love to see your picking pattern. It makes all the difference with being able to build the speed. Dude, you rock. Thanks, again.

Great Channel! Just subscribed! I've already learned that GM does that double pull-off/trill on the top 3 strings and usually goes to single pull-offs on the bottom 3 so his descending runs never lose steam and it sounds like he's going faster as he moves down the scale. He also rarely goes up to the 8th fret on the B before going up to the 5th on the E. Instead he does double pull-offs on both strings.

Very enlightening. On the subject of the face-frying pentatonic licks, I wonder what the similarities and differences are between Gary and Lizzy era John Sykes. Maybe I'll have to to (cold) sweat a little blood and figure that out myself, lol. Enjoying your content, Lt. Dan.
@todhamilton5055
@todhamilton5055 2 жыл бұрын
Saw thin Lizzy with Sykes at small club in Palo Alto Ca years ago….he could sing like Phil which was sweet. His posturing and guitar however left me wanting, Gary’s playing has that something that grabs me. Sykes is technically brilliant but doesn’t move me, especially his leads. He treated Scott G rather shabbily that night, …classy..

So, the split second crunch between phrases. Garrys most fave thing. ? Sonds like open E&A.?
@richardlewis5058
@richardlewis5058 Жыл бұрын
I think I know what you're referring to. I was watching the vid of his last gig in a small club in London and it was very noticeable how there would be a kind of atonal sound in between his phrases, like you say, a split second thing, probably played on open strings on an upstroke. I guess it needs a lot of gain to get it to sound good.

Easy. Effort. Or lack thereof. The phrase, “you can do it if you put your mind to it”. It would help immensely if you have an ear for it. If there’s a certain something I want to play, I will listen to a song OVER and OVER and OVER again with headphones until I can map out exactly what notes are being played. I try to pinpoint if they are sliding or bending their strings. I think about transition time, etc. These people can do it. They just have to really try.
