It makes us proud to see such great radio being made using Axia, Omnia and Telos gear! Kudos to Lance and many thanks for the wonderful tour!

It’s a beautiful location and very well engineered. I’ve worked with APM, MPR, and MarketPlace for many years and so this doesn’t surprise me. I love the reminder that with modern systems mics are always hot!

Very nice layout and flow in that station. Nice tour, thank you for taking the video. Peace

Amazing video and tour! The equipment that public radio has in the USA is incredible (compared to my country, Argentina, where public radio is seen as an "spent" and has not been invested in equipment for quite some time). I dream that one day we will be able to have these standards in our stations. But in the meantime it is enjoyable to see how things work in other places. Thanks for the video!

Thank you for the tour. Really impressive. I seem to recall a KZbin video within the last year that covered the facilities at KING FM in Seattle. That was really impressive as well.

Thank you for this. I've been a fan of the Current and the MPR and APM structure I admire. When reading KPCC while back it was a big curiosity on how that was set up and how they do compared to other public radio stations.

If I recall KPCC used to be at Pasadena City College. Chief at that time use to be Johnson. This was in the 80's

Any idea what the infrastructure cost of this facility is, in terms of both $$$ and man-hours, for design and construction if that can be distinguished?
@TheBroadcastEngineerАй бұрын
I don’t have that information. Just the cost that was shared at the beginning of the video.
@amsoiltekАй бұрын
Sure not the same as when I was there in '82!

Scary.

What’s scary about the studio tour?

Now if only they could get a USEABLE signal here in West L.A. that would be nice., Utterly useless in a moving vehicle and very iffy at home with a good outdoor antenna. I've been complaining about the out of phase signals (out of phase between the boosters and the main site).

Our company will post jobs on Indeed. Not much open at the moment, but I am seeing broadcast engineer positions open around the country.

KPCC is at 89.3 FM. Was "AM" a typo in the description box, Marcos?
@TheBroadcastEngineerАй бұрын
Shhh... don't tell anyone I use AI to help me write descriptions... :) Fixed. I missed that part in my proof reading.

Years ago they had a shared time AM on 1230 at 100 watts. It's been gone a while

Some may know that when driving on I-5 over the grapevine, you hear KPCC on the south side of the summit. Then when you reach the top you pick up Bakersfield NPR on 89.1, then Fresno (KVPR) on 89.3. Bakersfield is simulcast from Fresno.
@Joe3545uАй бұрын
Wonder what KPCC's financial situation is after spending big bucks to be "State of the Art"? WBEZ in Chicago did pretty much the same thing. Recently most of the live and local staff was cut, the HD2 & HD3 channels were stripped of their unique programing and podcasting was eliminated as well with most programing being national NPR originated. Makes you wonder if it makes sense to spend big bucks on the latest equipment if you can't afford a local on air staff to use the facilities.

Almost all of our equipment was purchased with grant funding. Our portion of the budget is pretty small, news production comes first.

That guy is thinking incorrect. You can turn a fone sideways.

But most younger people don’t. They hold the phone in a way that’s comfortable to them.

Depressing tour.

Why?

That was a bit harsh! I did find the studios very dark. Do they have windows in any of the studios? Also, and this is a generic comment about most studios in the US: they often look like they are built like corporate offices (furniture, colors, etc) for the bigger ones. The smaller ones look like they are built in someone's living room. On the plus side, the Quasar consoles look nice!
@TheBroadcastEngineerАй бұрын
@jlwasmer It was fairly dark. Early evening on a Saturday.
