Especially because Girls Generation is full of very beautiful women: Yuri, Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Seohyun, also Hyoyeon looks like young Song Hye Kyo and same with other members. Agreed. Long time SONE here. She was never one to hog the spotlight. I think someone said (was it JYP???? I forgot but it was one of the CEOs) that she made the whole team pretty (not that they weren't beautiful themselves). She just has the presence that made everyone shine WITH her. I think that's the proper center. She was the glue that held the team together. It was fitting as she said that she felt like the middle child of the group as well. I'm a kpop Stan since 2009, IU is 2nd generation, but she wasn't that popular until maybe 2014_15, the other two girls like suzy and yoona were at each other's neck all the time since 2010. Suzy for example was massively popular it was insane. She had 40 commercial ads running at just one year. I remember nonfans saying if you walk into a supermarket or a convenience store it would look like you walked into suzy's gallery, her face was printed on every product. She had talent, face, personality. They called her triple threat. Her group was successful, her debut drama is a hallyu one, her debut film is a classic to this day. She had everything but she also was very quiet and kept privacy. Yoona is just yoona so simple. A legendary idol from a legendary girlgroup. 2014_2015, suzy wasn't as much active and maybe since then she stopped showing up except for dramas. Same as yoona. IU became the one she is today after those two girlies. Her drama moon lovers garnered her so much fans.

And Tzuyu, for my taste, is the prettiest 3rd gen idol. However, the Korean beauty standards ARE a thing - heart shaped lips, height, pointy chin, all that stuff. I don't personally agree with it, but it's a thing, in Korea. Irene is close to that standard, but is too short. Yoona fits it in every particular. There's not many that do. And because they do plastic surgery to meet the standard, Yoona's outrageous good looks become a "common" thing for people to aim at. I think that Tzuyu is prettier than Yoona. That still doesn't stop Yoona being the standard.
